    My 2 cents on why the DDJ-SB3 is the better buy over the DDJ-400, having owned and used both for extended periods of time.
    1) The fx section, this is my biggest gripe with the DDJ-400 , yes it emulates the style used on club decks but it's so stripped back its practically useless, for example the switch between channel 1, channel 2 and master, if you're switching it between 1 and 2 its sooooooooo easy to overshoot and hit the master, next thing you know your main track has steel echo and it sounds like you're in a space ship. if they really wanted to copy properly this should be a solid step by step knob. or at least a channel 1 to channel 2 slider and a master button underneath. selecting an fx is super annoying, you have to press the button loads to move all the way to the bottom of the list and hold shift and the button to move all the way back, all this means you have to have the FX panel open in rekordbox in order to see what you're selecting, taking up a good chunk of screen space, again a knob is used on club DJ equipment. The DDJ-SB3 however has 3 buttons on each side that you can assign an fx too , it means you have to remember which button is which easily done. It's just so much easier, yeah most casual DJ's will only use 1 FX at a time, id be happy with just a single button and a single dial on each side the very very least, like on the DDJ-RB, it honestly makes using fx instantly better and usable quickly without having to really think about it.
    2) The DDJ-400 seems to have gone the complete opposite with the looping, its super advanced, its way more than any beginner or even intermediate casual DJ needs, I cant see a DJ who is competent enough to make proper use of the loop functions available being happy with the extremely limiting FX. The DDJ-SB3 offers super simple, super easy to operate, beat snapping loops at the click of a single button.
    3) The sliders/Mixer section, on the DDJ-400 everything in the mixer section is extremely cramped, the have loads of spare space around the jog wheels that would allow them to expand, it doesn't make sense to me, it makes knobs extremely close together and the sliders are very very small compared to the SB3, just feels a bit toyish and not well thought out to me.
    4) Tiny tiny performance pads on the DDJ-400, the DDJ-SB3 has large much less plasticy feeling buttons which to me makes the SB3 feel much more premium as they are a lot for various reason. I also believe the options on the SB3 are much better, especially for beginners but this is one of those subjective things.
    5) Rekordbox. One of the main things that's mentioned when comparing the 2 is the free rekordbox pro level license. I personally prefer serato so I'm a bit biased and I understand it can be subjective. However serato lite offers beginners and most casual DJs everything you could ever need. If you have fully mastered serato lite and your controller then you're ready to upgrade anyway and the next level up (DDJ-SR/SR2) unlocks serato pro for free. if you are dead set on using rekordbox, which is perfectly fine, the DDJ-RB basically matches the DDJ-SB3 and is currently £125 used from CEX (Condition B). the only differences being, 1 fx button and dial on each side, and no auto loop button (Beat snap), just standard loop buttons but beat loops with snap can be assigned to performance pads etc. everything else is a carbon copy, it also has sexy black jog wheels. The next level up is the DDJ-RR which again is a direct copy of the DDJ-SR2 except it uses rekordbox instead of serato, you wont be limited in upgrade options.
    Another commonly mentioned pro of the DDJ-400 is it has slightly longer tempo adjust sliders, which it does have, but the key word is "slightly" and it is just that, a tiny amount that wont effect most DJ's, when you move up through the equipment levels, the tempo sliders triple/quadruple in size, that's when it makes an actual difference. Same for the pros toward the SB3 having slightly large jogwheels, again "slightly" is key and shouldn't be a factor. Build quality of both controllers is a spitting image but for some reason, to me, the images of the DDJ-400 make it look more premium (Black jog wheels??), but in person it is infact the exact same.
    I was drawn into the DDJ-400 by all the reviews online that slightly nudged the DDJ-400 in front of the SB3, not to mention I much prefer the overall look and black jogwheels of the 400. but my opinion is that if you're a complete beginner definitely go with the SB3, its so much more fun, easy to use and the least frustrating to use and if you're having fun then you're learning and the fundamental skills of a DJ will transfer to literally any controller on the market with a small adjustment period.
    Again, personal opinions, 2 cents etc etc.

    Roland is much much much better choice for people who know some shit. You can connect with midi out external analog gear like tb 303 or another synthesizer or drummashines and do some crazy live set up. If you don’t know anything about producing or sequencing and you are just mixing songs and playing like a rookie it makes sense to prefer the other two controllers.

      @@matsuwd-emethdaath4002 Actually, I first used Serato LE with my Numark Party Mix. I was pleasantly surprised that I was offered a 14 day free trial of Serato Pro, and a few days later was offered my first month of the Pro version for $1.00. It offers a very well rounded sound board display that includes several preloaded samples, a nice library of different FX that can be individually assigned to 3 of my sample pads, beat grid, cue list, loop quantizer, sync, key lock, pitch sliders, track crates and library folders, decibel meters, recording menu, and several display layout options (horizontal, vertical, library, etc.). You can buy expansion packs to add samples, FX, additional decks, and more goodies, but the standard Pro edition is more than sufficient for me to mix drum n bass on my Party Mix hooked up to my Lenovo laptop (Windows). I believe Serato Pro costs me about $11/month after my promotional trial.
      The Party Mix with Serato LE was $100, I got a great deal on a pair of Audio Acoustic monitors with 6.5 inch woofers for $88 (Walmart), I started out on my desktop CPU but was fortunate enough to find my lap top used from a friend (trade for $70 retail value of party favors, that only cost me $20 wholesale) and run it all through my KLH surround sound head unit, which I had earlier been given free of charge by friends who scrap in affluent neighborhoods. I am lucky to have pieced together a pretty solid entry level DJ kit for less than $250. I would definitely recommend the Numark Party Mix and Serato if you're working with budget or you are a beginner. Even assuming you start from scratch, the 100 dollar price tag allows budget space for any other components you may need.

The only one of these controllers with a 24 bit digital analog converter is the roland it would play fine on a full sounds system it actually has better sound then the ddj 1000 and rivals the xdj zx. If sounds is your problem audio interfaces and or DACs are easy obtained for $200 CAD. That being said roland wins cause they don't purposely give better sounds for huge premiums. In love with my 400. You can’t go wrong with it and Pioneer proprietary Rekordbox software. Forget about the third and forth deck for now if you are a beginner and is focusing on learning how to mix properly.
    This is the way everybody learnt back in the day when you saved enough money to buy your first mixer and pair of decks or cdjs. This controller also makes applying effects to your tracks much more similar the way Pioneer pro equipment does, specially when transitioning tracks. This will make you feel home when you are ready to move on to their next level gear.

If you want that drum machine functionality and creative options I would skip the DJ 202 and go for the Roland DJ 505 which comes with Serato Pro and is just a superior version to the 202. It will play well on any sounds system. If your goal is to tap buttons and look like your producing on stage by anything you want, but if your goal is to play your music catalogue seamlessly and respectfully the buy the 202. It will give your tunes the feels. Roland basically called out pioneer by placing a super cheap part in a entry level controller. This guys is a great reviewer watch all his stuff. But in this instance he's either mistaken or being bought.

      Roland because....1) it has its own sequencer a great feature you can make crazy live set up 2) you can plug in synths or drummaschine your dj set will go in another level you can produce live and remix songs on the spot ... your skin sets are going to be unique 3) serato dj is easy to use and I prefer it over rekordbox

    I bought the DDJ-400 to finally get into DJing because of the full software and the slighly bigger pitch faders.
    It's right, Rekordbox can be a little overwhelming, but i already managed to record some mixes (feel free to check them out hehe).

However the Roland controllers are powerful. I have the DJ 808 and it's an amazing piece of kit. And compared to the pioneer controllers the sound quality is much better. I also own the DDJ 1000 it doesn't come close to the sound quality of my 808.

    in all honesty i think that the ddj 400 is the best i have dj'd in bars and clubs and i honestly would use the ddj 400 at maybe a smaller bar or club all you gotta do is buy rca to xlr cables and you can plug into any house system that xlr plug ins and you have a professional grade beginner controller that you could use at certain venues and house parties because of the compact size and portability of it. I have honestly thought about getting it just for that reason.

    ... but you guys forgot the Numark Mixtrack Platinum, an equal contender in this type of entry level controllers for Serato and Rekordbox, those are the top 4 entry level controllers for Serato & Rekordbox in that same price range from what I've seen... there's also the new NI Traktor Kontrol S2 mk3 but that came out a couple of months after this video.
    I want to upgrade from my Pioneer DDJ-SR that I got in 2014 to a 2-channel DVS ready controller and I would love to see you guys do a video of the top professional 2-channel controllers with built in mixer and DVS ready, for turntable or CDJ hookup, a lot of people like myself prefer the 2-channel mixer set-up, like the classic battle style setup of 2 turntables set sideways and a 2-channel scratch mixer :)
    .... so it would basically be a video of the fully loaded, DVS ready, 2-channel controllers out there and there's only 4 of them available now, that I know of:
    Pioneer DDJ-SR2 ($700)
    Pioneer DDJ-RR ($675)
    Roland DJ-505 ($600)
    Mixars Primo ($550... supposedly comes out March 2019)
    Numark, Denon and NI Traktor don't make a DVS ready 2-channel controller btw, only 4-channel...
    also Vestax had one a couple of years ago but they're out of the game now.

    I own the DJ-202. I do really love it, but if the 400 was out when I was looking to buy a controller, I probably would have got that.
    I don't regret my choice. I want to get into producing, and finding something I can DJ with, AND get exactly the same sound as the TR-08/09 (albeit stripped back with less customisation) for under £250 is a big bargain. You can even add in your own samples and drum sounds with Pro for added flexibility. Some people don't like the green, but I genuinely like it. Being able to use the sequencer without having software open is wonderful, and with a MIDI port it gives a lot of flexibility. It's a major hassle to use through the pads but it's something you can get used to after a lot of practice.
    However, the 400 has a few things that I would have loved to see on the roland. Longer pitch faders is a massive thing. My original buy was the Numark Platinum, but I tried 3 all with the same issue. The tiny ones are difficult to get with in 0.2 bpm even when looking at the screen on the lowest range setting Serato goes to.
    AFTER FADER EFFECTS. Like holy crap I just want an echo I can use when dropping the fader. idk if that's an effect in Pro, but it's frustrating to want to do an echo/spinback out and it's literally impossible. The looping looks better on the 400 too.
    You can get pitch bend technically. However that involves buying Pro AND a separate "pitch and time" upgrade, whereas the 400 it's built into the controller, and imo the flexibility of that makes up for the lack of sequencer, as a good DJ can really do some interesting pitch tricks without having to mess with the pitch fader and lose time between two songs.
    The SB3, eh it really doesn't interest me. If you wanna get into scratching, love hip-hop, then sure this could be useful to help to begin with. Getting a real cheap pair of belt-drives and a shitty mixer second-hand might do you better than this thing though if you care that much about scratching.

    • @Lily-gr1ct
      @Lily-gr1ct 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean I'm also a beginner DJ, but if the platinum works fine, I wouldn't suggest going for another basic one, maybe wait a little longer to save so you can do a proper upgrade.
      My problem with the platinum (sorry didn't make it too clear) is that there was a weird feedback hum that was in sync with the flashing lights on the cue/play buttons. I looked into it and it's a grounding issue in a lot of them where the cables run too close without proper shielding on the wires. I tried 3 and they all had the same problem and it personally was annoying enough to make me not want to use it.
      Apart from that I loved it though. Like goddamn if it didn't have that problem I'd more more than happy with the platinum. If the Pro 3 had channel gain controls then I wouldn't even care about the screens and would have gone for that. I wanna beatmatch by ear (and am getting it now) and the screens made it a little too easy, despite it being a super useful feature and amazing for a budget controller

    • @davidmartinez927
      @davidmartinez927 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sparkjolt Thank you for your feedback mate, maybe you're right and the best option is to save money for a better one. I really like the sequencer feature on Roland 202, so maybe the 505 is the better option with more money.
      I'll think about that

    Sir Im following your channel on youtube and your videos are very interesting and informative. I want your guidance on two things: 1. I'm a beginner dj and don't want to invest more so kindly suggest controller to buy from: hercules insane 300, pioneer ddj sb3 and numark mixtrack platinum with jog wheel display. Also suggest if any other is better than these three. 2. Speakers to be used as I'm going to play in banquet halls and party plots.

    • @markrago7217
      @markrago7217 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have Numark party mix and it is extremely portable and adequate for $99. I'm not a big fan of the Serato software, but it still is way cheaper to use my digital music library over CDs or vinyl. As for speakers, shop around a little. Numark, Pioneer and most other equipment companies offer a vast selection of quality monitors from small personal desk top to large floor monitors for professional use. WalMart or Amazon both have a good selection too, and you can find solid bargain brand alternative if working with limited budget. Your head unit or pre amp is what will make the speaker reach it's full potential. As long as you're not pushing more amps than the speaker is rated, it should last you awhile regardless of brand.

      That’s subjective. The only difference is that you have to buy Serato Pro for the SB3 if you want access to all of the controllers features.

    I am just starting. I have messed with a few phone apps like MMJ. BUT I want to make my own mixes I want to remix songs and I'd like to learn to do mashups. I'm so confused as do these decks come with drums n sounds or do I have to buy samples or music packs. I have a pretty good ear for making music and really just want to put some tracks together and upload them on SoundCloud,Spotify and You Tube for now maybe eventually do some live feeds and possibly get out into clubs and Break Some Sick Barz for ppl to dance to

      To do remixes/mashups you will need a DAW..... it really has nothing to do with Dj ing...... That is music production... I use Reason suite latest version, or logic, cubase etc......
      2 separate things, Dj's play music, producers make music....

      some dj controllers like the denon prime 4 come with samples/effects installed to play during a set off your pads but you defiantly sound like you want to produce not dj ... you shouldn't be looking at dj controllers you should be looking at software and sample packs ect

    I'm loving my ddj 400 but I'm hating on rekordbox 6, even tho my computer has a good system songs take up to 45 secs to load and it sucks!

    I think the Roland is the best value out of these 3 all things considered but now you can also get a pioneer flx4 or a pioneer rev1 at this same price point so the plot thickens I know the rev1 is amazing if you are a battle dj so not in the same ballpark really but I’m curious if the flx4 is superior to the Roland I’d like to play with one sometime but I’ve got too many controllers as it is lol
