For the speedometer, you have to replace a bolt in the rotor with a magnetic one supplied in the kit. Then you have to drill a hole in your brake caliper and mount the pickup. The tachometer is inductive. You wrap a wire around your plug wire. The main power comes from the Start system. There is an inline sensor that goes in the radiator hose for the engine temp. But after my first hard wreck with it on, the engine temp went out. By far one of the best mods you can do!
I think the best thing to start with is to open up the muffler. See if they have one of those end caps or a cheap slip on. A low restriction air filter, and a main jet two sizes bigger than stock. Get an adjustable fuel screw also. They all have the same performance, so get the cheapest one. Try the bike out like that until the bike is part of you, THEN do some major tweaking. Good luck!!
Crossing small streams I just ride a wheelie over it. But when I go when its raining or snowing, I put duct tape over the holes. And when its below freezing I do the same to the top as well and only leave 1" opening, to richen it up again. It doesnt like the cold but keeps the bog out. No continence issues, You have to totally submerge a filter to suck in water.
Most of the install is easy. Wrap the plug wire with the sensor wire and tape it. Cut the radiator hose and insert "T" sensor. You have to drill a hole on your brake caliper to mount the speedo sensor, and then swap a rotor bolt with the magnetic bolt supplied in the kit. The power can come from anywhere. It took me about an hour and half to install the kit. A good shop should be able to do it all within an hour. So I'd guess parts and labor should cost about $200 at a respectable shop.
One ten. Well worth it. Their customer support rocks. I broke the bracket trying out a cool trick where I flip it over a couple times in the whoops. They mailed me a new one as soon as I asked them how to get one. No charge. Cool huh?
Well, the "carp" your talking about is no longer with us. But as a mechanic, its very useful to get to know the baseline for what temps your running, engine speed, outside air, and top speed. If youre one of those geniuses that just get on and ride until it stops, then you ask daddy to get it fixed, then 100 dollars for a doo-dad probably wouldnt bother you as much as you claim. If your dialing in a bike, and you know exactly what air temp is, bike temp, and what rpm, you can get it pretty good.
This bike is a blast!! Its almost too tall of a bike for me (im 15). I have a 05' 450x. BUT, i heard you say you never adjusted the valves, its time for mine because its bad now. But I also have the 2008 250x and I have barely anything stock on it. All my money goes on those things. Anyways. nice bike man.
Ninja is Wise! I have done alot to this bike since posting this. I thought about doing a follow up vid, but it would be the same just with a listing of different mods. Official List: 13.1:1 wiseco. Ported and polished head. DynoJet carb kit. Tusk accelerator pump cover. Air box mods. Air filter. Gutted exhaust. Pink wire mod. Big Grin.
Its a HONDA! By far the most reliable for its class. Best resale of bikes too. Check your valves every winter and change the piston every other year. Run it rich and you wont ever burn the valve seats. Mine has the original valves AND SHIMS. And is still dead on. When I did the head I had to remove a bunch of carbon with a wire wheel on a dremel. Then they were perfect. Way reliable.
crazyontwowheels did the dremel and wire brush to my yz426f head as well, cleaned the valve seats and valves and that thing had ass load of compression, with these new bikes you cant tell if its got good compression without pinning the auto decomp setup on the cam, had to do that with my buddies 450 just to find low compression, re shimmed the intakes and she was cherry, nastiest bike i rode was his yami 450, what a beast
Love the airbox mod. Think I will try this with my '07 CRF450. I would have placed the computerized display above the tank and behind the triple clamp though. It seems really suseptible to damage located where it is. Nice though.
sick bike im going to keep trying to get my dad to get 2 of them for both of us they loook like a great bike....did you cut the holes in side panels for airbox? and if you did what tool did you use?
@MongyMan23 the 08 was the first year they put the "smog pump" on the bike. ive done it to my 250 and 450x on the 250 i took it off and simply jb welded the holes to retain the stock look and on the 450 i bought a block off kit with plugs and bolts to close the holes. on both of them it gave a little more snappy throtle response and completely eliminated the backfiring on decel.
They actually sell a bracket plate to mount it like that. Mine finally went out so I ditched it, but now I have a good idea of how it sounds at 8500. Thanks for the comment! Your gonna love the airbox mod, just be sure to richen it up.
110 is the octane. Then its treated with ethanol or something like that. It gives you instant throttle response as well as more power. I would definatly port the head! I did the 13.1:1 wiseco at the same time as the head porting, so its hard to know where the most power came from. But I'm telling you...DANG! Try some of that fuel. Ask for it just like that "110o2".
@wogboy250 I'm the original owner. I'm still running the stock valves and even the stock shims. I check the clearances every spring. I have never had a problem with the valves.
I weigh 180. I have a yz125 and a 450x. My times on any track or turn will always be faster on the 450x. I can jump the x way farther than the yz just because it picks up speed without effort. I would say if you only want to ride a track, get the 450R. If you want to go anywhere else, get the X. When it thaws out, I'll go video it at the track! It will definetly hang with everything else.
Mind boggling isn't it? You know I've done so many mods to this bike and yet, the biggest grin winner, was the new pirelli's I put on last weekend! Since this video I've replaced the piston and worked the head over, and didn't notice any wear on the bearings or wrist pin. That fully synthetic HP4 must be worth it huh? And BTW, its BETTER than "R" specs in my opinion.
I think if you got an 02-03 you'd want one with aftermarket valves. But I think 02 to 06 will fit. One thing about steel valves instead of titanium and beridium, is the steel ones rob a horse and some revs. Its interesting though, the 09 R went to the x size valves.? Maybe what youve got is good. I ported my head and upped the compression and I cant imagine anyone needing more power. Especially with 110oxygenated. Sheesh.
yamaha has the most reliable valve train out there and its user freindly from beginer to expert, the ktm has the longest lasting engine.the honda is nice but blue is my choice.
EVERYBODY who buys a 250x, wishes they had bought a 450x within one month. If the 250x had dual exhaust like the 250r, it would be a tougher descision.
The yamaha is a chore to work on. Honda had two bad years of valves and thats it. I had a yz426 and it seized on me. Two cams, five valves, and a balance shaft is not more reliable than the unicam 4 valve. User freindly? right. The honda spanks everyone else in ride, power, engineering, reliability, and looks. I've rebuilt both and rode both. Never owned a ktm though, but I waste them all the time on sand mountain!
had an 06 450x biggest peice ive owned if you like um im sorry to hear that ill be thinkin of you when i ride andyou wrench.next bike is gonna be a KTM300xc 2stroke screw the 4stroke, long life low maintenence
taking the baffle out DOES NOT reduce power...iv tested it....and in some cases u may have 2 rejet the engine....the tuning will be a little out but it shouldnt hurt the bike..best ask a mechanic incase
Its not faster than a R model. Stock vs stock that is. The top speed is higher. And the torque is greater. Your R would easily do 100 if you dropped two or three teeth. I think my X is faster than an R everywhere but the track. I just got done installing a 13.1:1 wiseco and ported the head. I'd take on ANY other machine up a sand mountain. Supercharged buggy might take me?
Thanks M8. Cant w8 4 a gr8 d8 to procr8. Dont mastic8 while you masterb8 just fornic8....... I checked your vids and theyre totally...W8?...no vids?Gr8...I h8 when oil is brown, thanks for the...?...Tip?

Nice Bike Man. My buddy is picking up his new CRF450X tommorow. Can't wait to see how it will hold up to my XR650R when i uncork it.
Sounds legit! Make sure you document that action!
Crossing small streams I just ride a wheelie over it. But when I go when its raining or snowing, I put duct tape over the holes. I used a router to cut the holes in the side and an angle grinder to cut the hole in the top. Good luck with the twins!
Nice Job. :)

You can program any diameter tire. You will have to get crafty with a magnet on the front if it has a drum.
hey man i got 1 more question how did u intall that vapor computer on your handle bars did u just plug it in to cdi or did u have to do it all manualy

nice bike dude
Hey did you change the leak jet in the accelerator pump part of the carb? I had to change mine. It would stall too easily.

I'm just about to buy an 06 CRF450R, any recommendations about anything I should maintain in particular?
sick bike im going to keep trying to get my dad to get 2 of them for both of us they loook like a great bike....did you cut the holes in side panels for airbox? and if you did what tool did you use?
do you have to rejet it if you got the bafel out?
I placed it in the blank position of the terminal. Its a HRC mod. It gives it more top end power with a little sacrifice of low end grunt.
I used to change the oil and filter every other ride. But since its all broken in, the oil only gets dirty about every 20hrs. Thanks!
so how would we know what year of an R head to put on the x ??
They actually sell a bracket plate to mount it like that. Mine finally went out so I ditched it, but now I have a good idea of how it sounds at 8500. Thanks for the comment! Your gonna love the airbox mod, just be sure to richen it up.

Hey how much would that computer set up cost with installation?
man. that things roars like a harley
how often do you have to shim up the valves....
@reVerse22productions its the air to fuel mix. it has noting to do with mixing oil with the gas
ya cool. Im thinking bout getting one for my bike for when im on the trails and not at the track.
@wogboy250 I'm the original owner. I'm still running the stock valves and even the stock shims. I check the clearances every spring. I have never had a problem with the valves.

Does the headlight always run or can it be shut off
sick bike! go for a big bore kit if your after new mods :P, my crf is bored to 505cc and its a complete animal!! :D

nice bike i hear they are ridiculously fast.
hey what did u say about that pink wire???
I think if you got an 02-03 you'd want one with aftermarket valves. But I think 02 to 06 will fit. Can i buy a stand from a crf400x and put it on a crf450r?
cool doohicky how much u pay for the odometer thing
yamaha has the most reliable valve train out there and its user freindly from beginer to expert, the ktm has the longest lasting engine.the honda is nice but blue is my choice.
I still havent done it. It would be about 300, and probably give a couple more horses. The top end crispness will be the best thing.
The headlight is on whenever the engine is running. No switch.
@reVerse22productions Dont worry about the fuel, I was just talking about race fuel. If you just put premium in it youll be fine.
EVERYBODY who buys a 250x, wishes they had bought a 450x within one month. If the 250x had dual exhaust like the 250r, it would be a tougher descision.

you ride a crf450?
i weigh the same but 5 10 and im thinkin bout getin one
i ride a xr400 now
@MrOmonoiatis I put a 50 on the rear of mine and its perfect!
ur front brake cable goes on the onside of the fork not the outside
ur fine with a 450 im only 115 lbs and 5'7
had an 06 450x biggest peice ive owned if you like um im sorry to hear that ill be thinkin of you when i ride andyou wrench.next bike is gonna be a KTM300xc 2stroke screw the 4stroke, long life low maintenence
i got one for my wr250f they are sweet
taking the baffle out DOES NOT reduce power...iv tested it....and in some cases u may have 2 rejet the engine....the tuning will be a little out but it shouldnt hurt the bike..best ask a mechanic incase
Electric start, wide gear ratio, fatter back tire, headlight, killer torque, smooth suspension, high resale value...I always ride in the desert...
yes
you shouldn't put a smaller rear sprocket, the 450x already has longer gears than the R
i dont ride a 450, 250f but ive rode 450s many times
No "F" factor. And ya it sounds louder.
Its not faster than a R model. Stock vs stock that is. The top speed is higher. And the torque is greater. Your R would easily do 100 if you dropped two or three teeth. @6:37 ur oil looks like boggy creek swamp mud m8.
every month
Only when I can afford it. JK! 91oct.
