@@maryfaulkner9573 where do you live now?..God bless you, I pray your humble beginnings made you a strong better person in life, knowing how to handle and battle problems 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
My family lived at the Martineque Hotel. It was an extremely scary time in my life. I was about 11 or 12 years old. Our apt, however, was clean. My mom set up roach and mouse traps. We vacuumed and kept our bedding and clothes clean. My mom did the best she could in a bad situation. We were there because our father burned our house down, and staying with a relative was a disaster. I have learned to forgive every one that made life for me and my siblings difficult.
I lived in one of these hotels “ The Holland Hotel”. I made a few lifetime friends but it was just pure hell. Teenagers on drugs , prostitution. I hate every thought about having to live there.
I was stunned by that, though I know I shouldn't be. My parents mortgage for a three bedroom house was somewhere around $600 in the boroughs, but still NYC. at this time This is by design. They want there to always be an underclass living in poverty and squalor to take advantage of. I don't believe that no one could figure out solutions by now if they wanted to. That man at the end was right, and NYC is indeed paying a hefty price for directing from the children of its future. Most of the kids from that era fled NYC or still live with/ or in their parents home.
The poor are always treated like criminals? You’re delusional if you believe that. The poor receive countless programs from the federal and state government, that’s what keeps you mired in poverty. Welfare keeps people down, it’s doesn’t help them
I lived in The Martinique Hotel for almost three years. My sister and I made it out and we are doing good. The stories I have and can tell. I have a book that's getting ready to be published and I talk about my time living there. Title: Sometimes We Look Just Like You

We lived in PGH around 87/88 maybe 88 I was 7/8. I remember an incident a man killed a 3-year-old he had her panhandling. I was there at that time. And another 3-year-old died right before that, due to being thrown in scolding water. It was a bad environment to live in. We were there for a few months, maybe a year.
I haven't felt this much hopelessness since I watched Straight outta Brooklyn 30 yrs ago. Talk about a never-ending cycle of Get me the fuck outta here
This is very sad how people can be so cruel to these kids and there parents who were living in these flophouses back in 1986 in NYC. The city was way out of touch with its infrastructure and the owners of this hotel kept the place like a dumpster!
There is a good video where someone stayed there in 2009. It's a "regular" hotel again but is in just as bad condition if not worse. The club where diddy and jlo were involved in that shooting was on the bottom floor of this place too. The woman in 2009 ended up staying at a different hotel but came back to check out in the morning and shot more footage of the room. Since she left the night before someone had pissed in her bathroom and left pubic hair on the toilet. Her door didnt even lock so who knows what would have happened if she actually stayed the night. Multiple people have been killed in that place. A hooker was even thrown out a window and killed.
It's sad. I've been homeless with 2 small children and got myself together quick. People need to be ACCOUNTABLE for their actions. A lot of these parents are having babies ( not including rap victims) and bringing them into a horrible situation. Then a lot of them turn around and say they have it bad and need help. I'm saying it 100% these people fault but a lot of it is. I hope the children don't continue that messed up cycle but I know the chances are high.
Thank u so much for putting that out there. Scenario: u poor already, u have one child from a man who more than likely is a bum. Why have more children???? U put ur kids in this situation. I feel bad for her but she put herself in that mess. I wonder if she & her grown kids are ok now?
