Hello Chris, you play so so nicely demonstrating a WONDERFUL instrument. Yes I’d love that registration you’ve made up for the Deer Hunter it’s a cracking old tune so yes, I’d love that and any others please thank you.
Thank you for this interesting and informative video. I just purchased the Yamaha PSR SX 920. I want to use it to enhance our original songs and ballads, that we wrote back in the mid 1980's and a few new ones. Being an amateur guitar player and song writer, I need to see what features my arranger has similar to what you are playing.
Very informative video and a stark reminder I must have an in-depth look at your Genos Guide I purchased from you some time ago and must admit have only had am few casual looks at. Geoff.
Chris, thank you so much for this very well played and informative tutorial which I would love to know how to apply these techniques and Voicings to the Yamaha DGX670?
Hi Robert. Thanks for your support! 🙏. I really want to start using the Yamaha DGX-670 for some Average Keyboard Guy videos soon. It's one of my fav pianos. it won't quite have the flexibility that a Genos has, but there's plenty of other cool things you can do, plus of course, it's considerably lower cost! Btw, we have a large amount of DGX-670 demonstration and tutorial videos available to watch on our website here: www.epianos.co.uk/tv/
Keyboards today (especially in the semi pro to pro level) need to have standard “guitar modes”. The technology is there, and I’m pretty sure Roland was using a form of this guitar mode with the G70. There’s no reason that modern keyboards can’t function like Guitar VST’s. It would even utilize chord recognition, which is already a key component of arranger keyboards. A proper guitar mode would allow more accurate strumming, and even keep finger picking within the proper parameters matching the real instrument. My suggestion to the OP of this vid and to others is be careful with body tap and string tap articulations. It’s a timing issue and I often see players using taps incorrectly.
Only thing Yamaha missed on the S.art guitars is there is not “1” of them that is made with flageolets in the top range. It would be so great for having a couple of sounds in the top couple og octaves. There is enough keys just in the standard 76key range to cover the most of the guitar range and maybe use transpose to get 2 octaves of flageolet samples
Good for you! 👏 . Enjoy it! Our used Yamaha Genos clearance is a great chance for people to get themselves a top-of-the-range keyboard at a knock-down price of only £1999. Full details here: www.epianos.co.uk/used-yamaha-genos-1/
Hello from Denmark, yes the Yamaha keyboards have fantastic guitarsounds. For me I don't have the Genos but I loves my old Tyros 4, and because off your demonstrations off the Yamaha DGX 670 I get one off this, and play midi with the Tyros, but acoustic guitars I play on Tyros, the hammer graded keyboard on dgx is to heavyweights for the real sound/feelings. This two keyboards is fantastic together, the best combination in my musican life. THANKS 😮
Thank you Chris for this very useful video to help us play more realistic guitar sound on our Genos / SX keyboards & the tips to discover endless features in our keyboard .🎉

Hi Chris, I wish an Tips & Tricks video for the Yamaha Smart pianist. I am sure that will be interesting for a lot of users. Greetings from Holland I subcribe all your videos.
@@ePianoscouk You've done many videos on the DGX 670, so forgive me for not remembering...but does it have decent guitar sounds, with the fret noises & slides & such?
Marvelous illustration of the technique. Thank you for doing this. I’ve only reached the halfway mark of the video but felt compelled to applaud your skill and explanation. And yes, whoever that was up there was rather rude and noisy while you were showing us how to play 😄👏👏.
Thank you so much for your support! - The booming laugh you heard in middle of the video was from one of my colleagues who was nearby helping our warehouse team. He has such a wonderful, infectious laugh that he's always forgiven when this happens!
Hello, hi,y am french, thank you so much for the tutoriel. Amazing 😊bye-bye 😊🎉bonjour, je suis français, merci beaucoup pour votre tutoriel 😊magnifique. Au revoir. Je vous regarde depuis MONACO. 😊
As both a guitarist and keyboardist, with the greatest of respect I must take issue with some of your technique, in particular the 'rolling on to the chord' bit. It seems to me that when rolling onto the chord, you need to roll from the bass note upwards; that is to say, from the left hand up to the top of the right. On the video you seem to be playing still with a slightly pianistic technique, meaning that, to my ears, it does not yet sound like a real guitar. What I do, if this is any help, is to roll up then roll down, which replicates as much as possible the full strumming action employed by the guitarist. Even if you were picking the guitar rather than strumming, you would still tend to start with the bass note (classical music excepted, of course), and then pick the other fingers first, not start with the second or third note in the right hand and then add the bass in with the rest of the chord - it would sound weird on the guitar itself. I apologise for being long-winded and appearing critical, this video is still very interesting and can at the very least generate some fascinating debate. x
Have to admit to being a bit annoyed that you told us about the string slide & fret buzz, but you didn't tell us how you actually choose to use it as you're playing! It doesn't slide every sequence of notes, so you must do something when you want it to put the slide in. What is that 'thing' that you do? Is it after-touch? Is it pressure sensitivity? How do you do it?
Hi @TuftyVFTA. I'm sorry for the oversight in my video. I had actually intended to delve into the specifics of the string slide and fret buzz effects but somehow managed to overlook it! The technology behind these incredibly realistic effects is called Super Articulation, available on the Genos keyboard and other high-end Yamaha models. It's quite fascinating because it's not just limited to guitar sounds. To achieve the slide or buzzing effect, there's no need for you to manually trigger anything. The keyboard is designed to detect when your sequence of notes or the velocity of your attack would benefit from a Super Articulation effect, adding it automatically for a more natural sound. It's quite clever and it does bring the guitars to life in a remarkable way. As a player, it's seamless; however, with a bit of practice, you can learn to control it more effectively, triggering it precisely when desired by playing notes in quick succession or with a bit more force. I'm planning to make a short video explaining this in more detail later this week on Instagram. Do follow me at @averagekeyboardguy for that update. Thank you so much for watching and for your support. I really appreciate it!
Hello Chris, I've got a PSR-SX900. When I play chords without accompaniment as you do at 24:17, our friend John (...) doesn't follow what I play. Can you please explain me why? Thanks a lot :)
Hi 👋. I think it's because you don't have the ACMP button on. Try activating that (it's on the left-hand side of the panel) and see if John follows your chords inputs.
Thank you Chris :). Actually, my fingering type was "AI Full keyboard". Changing it to "Full keyboard" did the trick. BTW, a warm thanks for your videos which are always very pleasant, instructive and clear, even for an old French guy like me!
Hi @musoman6754 👋 - It's very unlike us to miss an enquiry! - Would you email details to me personally at sales@epianos.co.uk and I'll come back to you right away? - Chris
To play guitar realistically, you need to consider that fact that certain arpeggios should be played in a range of guitar's strings. Then you should play like "on guitar", but not like on piano with guitar sound. In other words, you need to imitate guitar technique with maximal precision.
You're right, @Mopantsu! It's an old GoPro and it always gives me some trouble! I get a bit nervous about it breaking down in the middle of shooting videos. You can see me looking up at it fretfully every now and then waiting for the little red recording light to stop flashing. Apart from those few weird green lines at the start, I think it managed ok this time 🤞
Can you strum without the computer helping you? It's one thing to pick a guitar with notes, but what about strumming? Lets see you make a video on that. It's easy to strum in a slow way but what about up and down, like that computer did. ( I think you said his name was John Williams) Terry
I think your comment is out of context. I am 62 and played keyboard-pianos-guitars all my life too, however, this is a keyboard EMULATING the sounds LIKE a guitar and does a great job, ePianos do not say it sounds AS a guitar. The sounds on this keyboard are fantastic and as a keyboard it EMULATES sound, it is not a hammer struck piano or a plucked guitar, so I do not understand your criticisms.
