  • High Drama. High Action. All that and more as we break down the Toronto Maple Leafs vs the New York Islanders game which saw John Tavares score his 1000th point. All that and more on today's NHL hockey video!

Even though they lost in OT, JT getting his 1000th point against the isles made the night kinda fun

  • @a.kunchenko1672

Of course, it is impressive to get 1000 points. But I was more than impressed by John's dad reaction. That was really a piece. Wish him to see anpther mile point in son's career.

As an Islanders fan, I totally understood him going to the Maple Leafs when given the chance. If I was given a chance to play for the Islanders, I’d have left any other team I was playing for!

Tavares is likely the most borderline HoF player in the league. As he stands now, it’s close. If he captains the Leafs to the cup, he goes from borderline to first ballot.

I think John Tavares is a borderline case for the Hall of Fame. There were 19 forwards inducted in the last 10 years, which likely means you have to argue Tavares is one of the 20 best forwards of his generation for him to get in (his generation being about 2004 to 2014 draft classes).

1000 points without a 90+ point season is crazy

  • @aaronmoots1569

Tavares would be more of a HOF lock if Jamie Benn hadn’t randomly scored 4 points in the very last game of the 2014-15 season to just barely snag the Art Ross from him that year. It’s crazy to think how a good game by Benn indirectly has such a massive impact on the way JT is perceived.

I honestly expected a loss in that game for the Leafs. All I really cared about was Johnny getting his 1000th on the island. And he did. What a night for him!

  • @LucyBatman

I don’t think he’s a lock for the hall of fame, definetly needs to win more at the NHL level, but something in his future could better his chances

the whole "booing whenever he touched the puck" is something similar to what I saw a couple weeks ago. I was at an Abbotsford Canucks game, and they were playing the Laval Rocket. There was a defenseman on their team with the last name "Trudeau". Whenever he touched the puck, pretty much the whole crown booed.

  • @Pikeswrath

JT is a 100% lock on HOF. He's already the 98th highest point scoring player in the entire history of the league... and (barring serious injury) by the time he retires will likely have around 1200 points which would put him right around the top 50 all time career point totals. How can anyone even question the fact that he's one of the most consistent players in the history of the league... his stats prove it.

  • @mrbiggs36

As soon as Alfredsson got inducted into the Hall of Fame it opened the door for a bunch of very good players to be inducted.

  • @BaconNationChannel

He's in the Hall of Very Good

  • @golf4ubacknine768

    Such class in New York

  • @smasherblues5322

The guy is an elite player, playing a role for the team. Love it or hate it, he’s loyal to Toronto. Imagine every Canadian player doing the same? God bless the greenback.

  • @lauig

He is for exactly that term, that quality every coach is looking for in their players and their team and that is to be rewarded and revered, a quality i don't see that many players past and present that embody it as well as he does : Consistency !

  • @mgraysonhay

I hate watching my team lose, period. But watching Tavares achieve this career milestone against his old team in their own barn, with their fans booing his every stride on the ice and his father watching from the fathers’ suite was so poetic and beautiful. Proud of my captain, and that moment really does make for good consolation in another brutal loss for my Maple Leafs.

  • @craigharrison5406

Oh the irony of him getting his 1000th point in Long Island while getting relentlessly booed. Priceless.

  • @OhHeyItsAlexx

Bertuzzi's nickname should be Buzz. He looks like a bee out there flyin around and not f*ckin off

  • @Danomite99

“Steady Tavares” - point a game player his entire career. -with no sign of production slowdown yet.
