This place has begun to draw lots of attention. The school I studied for my A'level just about 4km from Warakapola. I do not know how I ended up there.
My question is, why did our archaeological department abandon such an important place that is giving a clue to an ancient civilisation?. Other countries would make a huge thing out of scratch on a stone and promote tourism. And here is a gold mine. It seems there are people carrying surnames like Rawana. This place seems to be the opening for a vast network of caves.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and connection to the area! You’ve raised some important points about how significant historical sites like this can often be overlooked. It’s true that places like these hold immense potential for uncovering and celebrating our ancient heritage. Hopefully, with more awareness and appreciation, efforts to preserve and promote such sites will improve. It’s fascinating how names and legends still tie into these places-it really highlights the depth of history waiting to be explored. Let’s hope this ‘gold mine’ gets the attention it truly deserves!

Thank you again. But you have to be continuously work for these to be brought to the attention of people like Raj Somadeva and that Hettiarachchi who read out the statement regarding the rockinscription they found recently.
There is another tunnel in Dedigama close to the rajamaha vihara. May be all these are connected.
Btw, I am married to a well-known family from the area and remember meeting the former incumbent of that vihara.

@@AloysiusHettiarachchi Thank you for sharing such insightful thoughts and personal connections to the area! It’s fascinating how these historical elements, like the tunnel in Dedigama and the inscriptions, could potentially be part of a larger network. Engaging experts like Prof. Raj Somadeva and others is certainly important to uncover and preserve these links to our past. It’s wonderful to hear about your connection to the Dedigama area and its rich heritage-it must have been memorable meeting the former incumbent of the vihara. Hopefully, with collective efforts and awareness, these treasures will receive the attention and research they truly deserve.
