- Probably one of the most fun videos I've done! The Bond Arms Grizzly can be a good CCW gun, but not much else...it's a fun one though.

American made rounds come out cleaner ,dang hard to find nowadays but I stay with Remington, Winchester, Hornaday. federal . Getting used to cocking the hammer with one hand grip requires practice lots of it for me. Long fingers but not had any single action before. Love the heck out of this firearm. It's my Truck gun keep in the middle console. 000 buck in one .45 colt in the other. Feelings will be hurt. I adjust so lower goes 1st then upper. Buck in lower , .45 upper. Love me some bond Arms. Thank you for your video sir.
Nice.
Gives "Say hello to my little friend" a new meaning. 👌
I use the Bond arms 45 acp for belly gun. It's a great close up self defense gun believe me it works! Retired cop.
ACP is easier to find right now. 410 and LC are still hard to find.
Killed lot of innocent ppl huh
Both rounds 45 lc and 410 buckshot are very hard to find and expensive
Both rounds 45 lc and 410 buckshot are very hard to find and expensive
@@bronem8979 only if they need disposing save tax payers $$$$
I have an American derringer in 38 SPL for more than 20 years, and I like it.
Same here, 10 years
Easy to conceal , no one knows you have it
Have the .45 Colt/ .410...excellent at close range. You'll need a heating pad for your wrist if you fire more than 6 rounds or so. Still worth it. Incredible build quality.
Agree, something like this is not to take to shooting range but to only use in emergency where you need a powerful stopping process
I agree I love mine
I'm secure enough in my masculinity to admit that is the cutest goddamn holster I've ever seen
Always have one in my console in my truck ya never know when ya need it
I have one, and I love it…great boot gun
Agreed
You hold you aim steady, even on a windy day! You put together a great video, and I learned a good bit here!
I'm the proud pappa of a little Rowdy ☺
Good video. I have a California Papa Bear that only shoots 45 Colt(Bond Arms doesn't make this model any more and the barrels are not interchangeable with other Bond Arms. I got this information from Bond Arms customer support.). I carry it as a back up or when I'm going for walks. I think it's an excellent firearm for close range. And the good thing is if you cock the hammer you can still open up the action and unload it, so you don't have to de-cock the hammer like you do on single action only revolvers. I also agree with you that the trigger guard is a nice feature and that the holster that comes with the firearm does not work as well as other holster options. I'm an old retired guy and a reliable and simple firearm like this is one I plan to keep for a long time. I've shot mine quite a bit and the recoil is manageable for most adults.
Bond is simply the best derringer made. Federal buckshot in 410 with 45 LC is effective. It is very concealable friendly. The driving holster in crossdraw works well if in a car in a seat belt for the draw and accessibility. It works when at the stable at night in coyote breeding times when they are getting close to your horses. Around animals you want something that works close and does not travel past the target to the paddock behind easily. Each shot has to count and you don't want to risk other animals. In moonlight having it work like you are pointing your finger may be all you have to work with.
Mine is .38 spl \ .357 and I love it. I carry it in my Jeep and on occasions when my standard edc isn't ideal.
That's why I always select the bottom barrel first is more of a backup off me and the top one as my pinpoint accuracy shot.
Good method!
I wanted a snake gun, so I opted for this very deal, the Grizzly Bear model in Bond Arms' Rough series. I also experienced a bit of sticking of the spent casing of the shotshells, but nothing too problematic. I thought it might be the ammo (Monarch .410 2.5" #9 shot). I also liked that I could use it for .45 Colt, but that ammo is hard to find nowadays, and expensive when you find it. So, because I came to like carrying the Grizzly for a backup, I bought an additional barrel, chambered in 9mm. Now in the city, that's my backup. In the country/on hikes/on our farm property, it's my snake gun with the .410 barrel.
Smart. 👍
I have the Bond Arms Ranger and I love the 4" barrel. It is pretty accurate and has a little bit of recoil that will make you wake up.
' barrel
Another for my to get list
I keep the .45 LC on top and Winchester Defender .410 on the bottom. They are well built . I am not a huge fan of the possibility of carrying as a defensive weapon. I enjoy shooting these over my American Derringer company Alaskan 45-70 . The 45-70 is a bit of a ripper.
Defensively I could name a hundred different choices.
Also the manual ejector on all the Bond arms I have owned need a bit of work. They kinda bind up a bit before even being loaded.
No body can complain the Bond arms doesn't make quality. But there also isn't really a lot you can do to a derringer. The need to keep them as simple as possible makes sense. I hear folks all the time say "I carry them for protection against snakes" and I can think of some better choices for snakes as well. A Judge for instance.
I place the derringers I own along side of a few other firearms that are not as practical but still cool to own like the 8 3/8's S&W .500 or the little NAA .22 revolver. I suppose if I were a river boat gambler and had a arm rail to slide one of these up a sleeve then maybe.
And another funny bit of information I have hunted and hiked throughout the Northwest. I have come upon rattlesnakes but have always been able to avoid them. And if need be a simple revolver like a Ruger single six is all anyone needs to deal with one. But in 50 years I have never had to worry about being bitten. They seem to want to avoid us or warn us. And I do not just kill for no reason. And one last concern. Most rattlesnakes are encountered while they are sunning themselves on a rock. If you pull a firearm and fire what are the chances of a ricochet and possible doing far worse damage to yourself .
Great review thank you.
I have the Snake Slayer IV in 45/410. Love the gun. It has a longer barrel which gives it a little better accuracy.
Never heard of the Deer Slayer, I have the SnakeSlayer4, have had it for about 15yrs, still like it for a backup piece.
Don't like my DoubleTap as well, like firing it even less, for concealability it can't be beet.
@@RiverRatWA57 thanks for pointing that out. I corrected my post. I watch a lot of deer videos and probably had deer on my mind. Have a great day.
@@obedcasillas3404 Not a problem, I thought that they'd come out with a new pistol, you can never tell.......
@@RiverRatWA57 Lol.
It’s a pocket cannon. I like it
I have bond arms derringers and the bottom barrel not top barrel shoots to aim with the sights. Top barrell will always be low, unless you compensate. According to Bond Arms when using the top barrell drop your rear sight a hair low and it will bring bullet up.
I bought a 9mm backup then got the optional second barrel at reduced price, a three inch 410 / 45 colt Snake Slayer in the same finish and an expended grip in walnut. It is perfect for self defense, animal or otherwise. Aim for the crotch with shot.
I'd bet the Hornaday Critical Defense .410s would work well at 15 paces.
Can’t wait to get mine, at the FFL come Monday. Looking to use it for walking the dog gun in a coyote mating season gun, or an around the house to hold out till I get to my 12 gauge pump gun.
You are a fool of the highest caliber
I can’t think of a better walking the dog gun how do u like it after a year? I just got the rowdy
I like these.
Im currently looking at getting the bullpup as a CCW.
Great video!! It’s one hell of a close up and personal defense gun. 👍👍❤️
When shooting a few targets from a stationary position a #2 pencil in the pocket assists nicely. Doing that in a defensive situation might be - cumbersome...
Might not be too far off from a 'rack n tap' situation, though...If you haven't drawn Aces n Eights there might be a chance. Out here in snake country the Bond has become my EDC. .410 in all it's variances. Did in a Mohave a couple weeks ago in the driveway. I'm sure it was terminal, a vulture picked it up and flew off with it about 20 minutes later.
It has a place on the boat but l’d like the 6” barrel , Nice tool .
My derringer, always put on safe before loading ..allows firing pins to be out of way …..no AD when closing barrel down . Great vest gun .
Great video one of the best I have seen on the bond 45/410
These are for close contact but kinda like length in barrel . Good as back up gun from what I can see. Accurate contact is very important as well.
5:26 you were mistaken the bottom of the two was correct but the upper hole was the top most on that set
The Derringer has been around for a long time as a gamblers table weapon for two reasons one was the shorter barrel allowed it to be drawn faster than the standard revolver and two at close distance you got two shots off one to the chest the other at the belly. The real draw back is the shorter barrels are not that great if you are using shotgun shells because you don't have enough barrel to control the shot once the gun is fired. I call that the scatter pattern and at distance you are lucky if you hit anything using shot shells. Up close the shot would make his day bad until you shoot the lower barrel then their day gets worse. So if you can't see your attacker clearly enough to make your shot count then scare the crap out of him and run away.
Three, your girl can hide it in her butt when she visits you in lock up.
Yes sir I would like to say something when you shoot number seven or shotgun scatter through raffle barrels it spreads the shot out more believe it or not bird shot number seven shot whatever you wanna call it is made to be shot through smoothbore one shot through a threaded bore they spread more look it up liked your video we have a 357 magnum version
Yeah it just throws the shot in every direction lol I'm working on acquiring some more defense oriented loads to test, that should be interesting
I have same Except in their TEXAS Defender model, lil shorter pistol grip and markings are the difference. It's my EDC/PP, Tanfiglio 10mm stays locked in car.
Thanks for the good presentation on the Bond Arms Grizzly. I've had the Bond Arms Rowdy for a couple of months and fired 250 grain 45 Colt rounds. So far haven't been able to find defensive loads in .410.
Check out the defensive loads video I did on it, you might be surprised with some of the results. As for finding the loads themselves....yeah 410s are very difficult to find
You could probably just use buckshot. I can't imagine a deer is much stronger than a man if you shoot either one in the chest
4 ultra hard cast .40 balls work well. Don't want the single-stack balls to deform under acceleration.
@@xzqzq I was thinking of fire-forming .444 Marlin brass into a brass .410 shotgun shell (thinner case walls like a .45 colt shell) and using a stack of .45 balls for a cap and ball pistol. Those would be big enough to engage the rifling
@@sethmullins8346 A number of rimmed rifle rounds can be chambered in a .410.....303 Brit, 30-30, off the top of my head. I suggest people measure the muzzle I.D. of the gun. My .410 single-shot shotgun has a .398 I.D. at the muzzle. For a barrel as short as these derringers, shouldn't be a problem....I assume they are cylinder bore....
With larger shotgun cases - 16ga, 12ga, the wax slugs work well for defensive loads....the plastic hulls stands up the the heat.... plastic .410 hulls deform.... I haven't tried brass hulls. Let me know how they work out....
Perfekt for Gerrmany Rush-hour 😁
I have this gun. Well made and more affordable than the all polished model.
Performance is identical.
I just got one. 45/410. I went with bond arms. I seen cobra crap lol. I like the 45lc. But they have got super expensive. 80.00 for some gold dot hollow. Box of 20 lol. I got them but I'll be shooting the 410 way more
Great vid,with great info,Thanks
I bought a nice leather holster online from a leather store in New Mexico. However, it sticks out too much. I am going to get a 'Sticky' pocket holster next because it does fit in a front pocket nicely but it can print too much without a holster.
The holster that comes with it isn't bad either
I carry a Bond honey bee 22mag CCW
No complaints !!
u can set your barrel if u wanna shoot bottom first i think
Hi there, I have a Bond Arm and I carry it as conceal carry only I read the Manual , sites are for the bottom barrel and IUs defensive Lowe’s 3 inch triple lot buck at 15 feet try it you’ll be surprise,
I have an original derringer 45c/.410 it was given to my wife and I as a wedding present. It's highly polished and has beautiful wooden grips but being and original derringer it doesn't have a trigger guard and only has a hammer safety.
I love thoes targets thoes are really sweet..gotta try to find thoes kind..they are better than the ones I have...nice Derringer my stepmother had one a 38
I have the Cowboy Defender as a summer carry, Love it! though I've found the .410 Buck to kick more than the .45LC, may just be me though.
I’d use the 410 Hornady triple defense in the top, and 45 colt in the bottom. Either barrel very lethal…
I use the Hornady triple defense 410 in my Rowdy
Bond Arms derringer sights are sighted for bottom barrel at 10 yards. Have to aim different for upper barrel.
i ! hunted! with mine as in it was hunting season an was on my own property. i ran out of rounds for my rifle and it was too much snow to go buy more. so i got a few squirrels with the derringer its not easy it does takes alot of practice but i use my derringer as my primary gun
Well done! What did you use for a load?
Use the Federal 000 buck in 410 for self defense in the top barrel and 45 colt in the top.
*Is good as a secondary CC.* Or just against wild nature, .45LC for big animals and 4 10 for snakes.
With a set of 4 inch barrels it would be much more accurate, and legal to hunt with in most states.Other length barrels and calibers are available from Bond Arms
Thousands of grizzlies approve of this gun. Great for catching lunch.
Love my "Grizzly"!!!
Thats a killer up close.
nice little emergency gun
Nice, adult caliber for such a baby pistol!
This gun is not meant for targeting in long distance. Its meant to get someone off of you who has encroached past the distance of comfort. Or something. Technically, if u just show it, most people will get away. A wild animal or person about to attack is where this is handy.
Very cool 45
The triggers suck but i do like mine. Just wish they wouldve made it more ergonomic for the trigger pull.
Nice job. Maybe next time you could use some defense loads like the Win. PDX1, or some buck shot.
Here you go!
th-cam.com/video/6IQ98yeTgu4/w-d-xo.html
I like it how much its price.
I like using the 45 colt first because the bad guy is probably a little farther away, than using the 410.
Horniday critical defense is a nice self defense. It's like 3 .38s with friends.
My results are the same. At 7 yards my point of impact is dead on with both barrels using 45 Long Colt.
I like your videos! 👍
@@TonyFreeman-LocoTonyF thanks! Don't forget to check out the clips channel at RM2.0 Clips!
the rifling must be opposites. spiral in opposing direction especially with 45 colt it looks like
Not sure
Did you try a .410 rifled slug?
Get a Bond Arms driving holster. They're great!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸⚓
Excellent review 👏
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Plz, what does it weigh empty? Thanks. Nice thorough review.
Thanks, not sure what the weight is but it's super light
these are neat but I'll tell you, I shot a .45LC out of one at a piece of wood a few feet from me and the round just bounced off it and fell to the floor... In my mind a hotter pistol round is far superior in a derringer. Also, these things are pretty massive thickness wise - My Colt Mustang II .380 holds 6+1 and is a lot thinner so front pocket carry is a breeze.... Just a couple things to think about
45 long colt is a hot round if loaded right. It can beat a 44 mag
@@stryker1953 Oh yeah, have you ever shot that hot of a round from a derringer...?
@@AstroVanTribe hell no lol. Wouldnt want to break my wrist lol
@@stryker1953 Ha, ha, ha.... Exactly :D
I enjoyed your video. Since you have the Bond Arms Grizzly I'd like to see you shoot some either 00 shot or 000 shot at 5 yds. and 15yds. to see the pattern. I have severe gout in my hands so I'm asking you which ammo has the least recoil? maybe the 45 colt???
Great suggestion!! I'll see if I can get that idea set up soon!
@@rifleman17hmrshooter Thanks
I have the Snake Slayer and 45 colt doesn't kick too bad. 45 Schofield shoots really good with minimal recoil, if you can find it. Keep an eye on Ammoseek.com for 45 Schofield
hola Y acá estamos... excelente video está Genial muy bueno
🤜🤛👍👏👊
Nice vid, thanks for sharing. :)
Very Nice..!👍👍👍
That looks like a cool gun... nice it's in 45
Great video man just subscribed!!!🇺🇸
Super video thanks
Would be a great gun to have if you have to do a lot of driving in say Chicago, it fits into a cup holder and at a foot or two feet would back off a carjacker with a swiftness.
I enjoyed the relaxed pace of the video. Currently have the Snake Slayer with 3 barrels, and I love it, but the new, thin Stinger 9mm has caught my eye. Yet they are out of stock everywhere. Thanks Biden!
Thanks for watching! The relaxed range buddy feel is kind of what I'm shooting for when putting together each video, so even in the dead of winter you can still 'hit the range' without freezing lol Bond Arms really out do themselves with their huge selection, I would love to come across one of the longer barrels they offer. Anyway, thanks again for watching!
Get some Winchester 000 buck shot 410's
Totally different defence gun then 👍
I like those none lethal darts that jab them in chest .

I have no idea what you're talkin about
Thanks for the info.
I carry 2 on myself, outside the WB is my Springfield .45 and my conceal is my Kimber micro .380....I could prob jus carry this one in my pocket and have hands on all time.
thats a awesome shooter bro
Good video. What does the .45 recoil compare to and what does the .410 recoil comopare to? Did you shoot any buckshot through it and what was the recoil like.
I have been interested in these guns for years.
The 45 had more recoil when compared to the birdshot, but I'm am currently working on another video featuring buckshot and other defensive loads. Should be out in a couple weeks!
@@rifleman17hmrshooter Thanks I am familiar with +P l38 special from a five shot snub and compact 9mm recoil.
There is only 1/2" of rifling. Between these Smith & Wesson Govermor and the Taurus Judge there has been developments for buckshot loads. These don't spread quite as fast the projectiles are close to centered if they are big enough. 00 buckshot 000 buckshot
The one and only purpose of a derringer is to hit a torso-sized target at a 5 yard range. For anything else just get yourself a Gock 😆😎
Those aguila cowboy loads are really light recoil. Averaging 600 fps out of a 5" barrel
My most often CCW is a S&W 637 38.+p(sweetened action), and appropriate loads. It is small, light, 5 shot-and very accurate. Why would I want to carry a heaver 2 shot single action?
All about personal preference! I like my little 38 too. Thanks for watching!
If your a woman in a shorts jump suit it's nice to be able to hide a .45 in the side if your sports bra. If you're out with horses, it's nice to have shot gun on you because even a straight shell isn't going to kill a rattler or a moccasin.
I totally agree, love the quality of these derringers but don’t see the point as CCW. Airwieght J frames are lighter and smaller with 5 shots. Bought an 638 Bodyguard in 93, still carry it on a regular basis.
I would have loved to see you shoot 410 Buckshot in 000
Upcoming video!
@@rifleman17hmrshooter nice!
Do they load .410 with buckshot?
Per the Company -- Do Not Dry Fire
I HAVE THE SNAKE SLAYER VERSION LOVE IT.!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST A TOY AT 2 SHOTS THOUGH.
Pretty close snake and pretty deaf rabbit !
I found out something today shooting mine. I hold the gun with finger pointed with my good hand then I take my other hand and pull trigger with my other hand finger. I can then cock it with trigger hand fast and easy without taking off target. The hand holding gun is only holding it straight. While other hand holds wrist and pulls trigger and cocks gun.
I think I would use #8 or even #9 shot in the 410. At a distance under 3 to 5 yards a blast to the face with #9 is going to blind the attacker. 249 or 292 pellets with 8 and 9 shot vs 175 with the 7.5 shot. Back it up with a 45 or perhaps a 410 buckshot shell or slug..... #8 and 9 would be less dangerous if shooting in an urban environment as the light shot would lose energy quickly from the short barrels. Less chance of killing someone buying a candy bar down the block... If the attacker cannot see you he cannot kill you. #9 shot will put your eyes out for sure.
Nice gun to say you own a derringer and round out a collection, but would you really carry this even as ankle gun when there are so many higher capacity and even lower caliber firearms? Glock 43, XDS-45, S&W 642 for example.
Now THAT is a very good question! As a primary? Not for me. As a backup in the glove box or in a pair of shorts? Maybe. Remember, it's for use as a DEFENSIVE measure. It certainly has enough power to facilitate an immediate response to an imminent threat, but it's very limited. I guess the question comes down to the carrier.... What works for you? Maybe this is your best option, maybe not. Thanks for the input!
As a woman i will be buying this gun!!!!!!
Interesting thx. Used to shoot 410's from my Contender 45 c.l. yrs ago. Have a 22 mag. derringer as a backup for my c.c..380 for walking at night in the city. But have always owned 410's and have one now for home defense, I saw you were going to test this with 00 buck so that makes up for using no.7 shot , it might have been inaccurate but to hint it won't do much damage is wrong:( was interesting also at least from viewing it did not have much more recoil than my 22mag derringer? thx. again. Rick
The recoil will be greater than the 22 but definitely manageable.
@@rifleman17hmrshooter oh thx. Yes surprised me ,because the only other derringer I had ever fired was 44mag. my Dad kept to carry on the road when he traveled a lot. and it kicked so much ,almost jumped from my hand:( always joked just the fire from it was defense enough :), the 410 reloads I use won't work in that derringer, are 3 in. but use a hollow pt. 45 c.l. round, are devastating, would work just put in shorter case, also have solid brass 410's with various loads but have never fired them.am disabled ,don't have the lost luxury of walking out back anymore like you do :) thx again. Rick
410 slug in one and 410 00 to fire first.
