You put some real energery into a how to video and six comments? Much appreciated no matter on how many people want to see kill shots. Thanks Randy.

Randy I really love your videos. I was always taught this exact method, but after getting serious with rifle shooting I've found the top of the turret isn't always level. Put the bubble on the turret find your level, then turn the turret a 1/4 or 1/2 a rotation and that bubble will shift. Now just find where the action is level, throw the barrel level on there and just plumb bob the scope's reticle.

Might be a dumb question, but how do you level the rifle? I normally use a picatinny rail to level it, but this time I’m using rings like in this video. The end of my receiver isn’t even where I can use a bubble. Could I use it inside the action?

@@codydavis4513 I always start with a level surface. Whether that's a kitchen table, a work bench or kitchen counter. To me, that's half the battle, once I start with a level work surface then the rest is relatively easy.

Finally someone knows how to do it proper. So many people I know just slap their scope on willi nilly and off they go. And then wonder why they can’t hit the broad side of a barn

    Thank you, I needed this.
Following along, & realizing that in the past I could have mounted mine better , now going back and rechecking all my sights for being true & level, & re-zeroing.

At close ranges it is not that important, but when you get out a ways a canted crosshair is a serious problem.

@@Fresh_Tracks I use the Wheeler level system. My complaint is they should of used a better color for the housing of the bubble level. The yellow gold color wasn't the best choice. The bubble level liquid is yellow too, and the housing is too shiny. It plays with the eyes too much. The system works, but its difficult on the eyes, and slows the process. I also use the Arisaka scope level tool. Many times I thought I was right on with the wheeler system and I'd catch a slight cant with the Arisaka tool. Only works with flat surfaces though.

Great intro video to mounting an optic. One thing to mention though is to not use the turret to make sure you reticle is level. One little thing could be off with your turret/ turret cap and this will throw you off. Use a plumb line to level your reticle. Also a plumb line is cheaper. You can make it at home home with cord and anything for weight lol

At 5:03, what attachment did you use to add a level to the action? I can’t find that exact version on the wheeler website. I see similar ones, but not that fits on that part of the action.

Lay lapping bar in rings and hit it between rings with a rubber mallet. Rings will torque in for perfect alignment.

Hey Randy, I know you really like the dovetail mounts, I’ve seen them on pretty much every one of your rifles. I’m curious if you’ve ever used the Leupold Backcountry mounts? Still a two piece base, but a one piece mount/ring which eliminates messing around with the dovetails. I used to have the dovetail mounts on my hunting rifles but just got tired of trying to align them so switched them out. Curious on your opinion.

    • @Simon-talks
      @Simon-talks ปีที่แล้ว

Yep, dovetailing and trying to line them up and all that nonsense just isn't necessary. Modern 2 piece mounts already take care of all of that. Aligning mounts now is as silly as "breaking in a barrel"....

Hey Mr. Newberg, I have a question about scope rings. Are scope ring with only two screws any different than those with four screws? For example, does 2 screws scope have a higher chance of causing the scope to move around while walking through brushes?

I'm surprised more people don't promote Lupold dovetail. Nothing personal but seems like the whole world has gone picatinny crazy. Cracks me up when people insist that Wheeler level levels are warped junk not true to level. Trust Wheeler, don't trust pessimism...

    • @Simon-talks

dovetails aren't necessary anymore....you can thrown on some Back Country's and already be CNC lined up perfectly.

You do not put a level on top of the scope. Use your rings or bases for your level, then transfer that to the barrel level.

  • @HoneyBeagle

    • @Simon-talks

No, 2 piece back country rings are CNC'd out of a single steel or aluminum billet. Lapping is silly in modern times.
