Looks good I am right now laying my pier block I have 16 piers in a 16x24 cabin with a 6x24 front porch. I think I will glue and screw my 3/4” t&g subfloor down. I would have liked to have seen you break your floor sheeting joints, however very nice job !
@ 2:18 Bitumen shingle under the beam and on top of the post and fix the metal strap vertically not horizontally and make the base fit the size of the plywood too @ 11:08

Didn’t see any brackets al lot of building mistakes no joist header, sub flooring joints are butted they need to be staggered, always screw & glue sub floor. He did good work just a few mistakes.
I think I remember you saying some people have told you that there's a better way to do the joists, but I actually like your setup. It will support a ridiculous amount of weight, and it doesn't depend on the sheer strength of your fasteners (or brackets).
@@sheilaharrison8547 to stop the damp / moisture rise from the wet ground up the concrete post and soak in to the timber .. meaning it will rot .. felt would act as a barrier between the two... timber will last a lot longer
if you're going to use the ties, you should have put them on the beams first, measuring them out. then, you just drop each into its predetermined location
I don’t have footage to show you exactly. But just look down the spine of the board and find it go up hill and then down hill. That’s the crown. Or basically the rainbow!

It looks like the brackets are Simpson H1 clips. They are not rated to stop the twisting. They make sure the joist doesn't move in/out or side to side. For twisting you use a rim joist around the perimeter or blocking in between the joists
I just started a cabin build so I wanted to entertain myself on your build in the meantime. Its interesting to know all the different ways to frame a floor. I went with running 2 x 10's 16' into two end beams...so the floor system is all on one level. But it all works! You provide some good humor along the way too thats fun to watch
Interesting. I built my cabin floor in a similar way. I did however install metal brackets into the still wet concrete. Then ran three parallel rows of 4x4 beams on the 9 piers. Then built the floor basically as you did on top of the pier and beam layout. I did mine 16x20 so that none of the plywood would need to be cut. There is a 2' overhang on both ends, but it's very solid. I did do the chicken wire and insulation before laying down the flooring, and I did also glue the flooring. Keep up the great work.
Interesting use of the strong ties, never seen them used for floor joists. Why go that route as opposed to joist hangers on rim joists? While on the subject, why no rim joists? Maybe it's a northern vs. southern thing?

What is the point of those metal plates nailed at middle of the beam where the 2 boards meet? I would think it would be unnecessary if you nailed the 2 beams together with a row of 3-16D nails at 16” o.c.
@@WoodnessGoodness cant argue that one bit. I saw in a other video you mentioned you arent sure if the joists on top of beams was best method vs using joist hangers. I think you did it right, it's definitely more strong and slightly higher off ground giving more space for access underneath.

No big problem from what I know. It’s just not ideal and can start to warp the sheathing. Sitting water is never great and over time can sometimes delaminates the plywood. I’m fairly certain, most houses had rain on its sheathing while being built.
Winston Scott that would of definitely helped a bit. With the tongue and groove I found it was strong enough and didn’t want to make too much waste. Good point though! Next time!

Your really good strategy of using the eight inch beams to provide room for error showed up right at the 4:20 mark.

how come the beams aren't somehow connected to the concrete its just laying on top isn't that unsafe?

Eero Laukkanen I drilled wedge anchors and used brackets into the concrete pilings later on. I wasn’t sure what to do at first. Learning as I go!
