- The floor is done which means it's time for walls! I am framing these walls around the windows I've collected. This is a little unorthodox but it's very important to me to save money and make a beautifully lit cabin with natural light from these windows.
These walls aren't exactly built to spec. My headers aren't supported with jack studs however these are very little light windows and the wall is plenty strong. Also, there's no second story. Anyhow, this is a custom little cabin and it's really starting to look great!

@@WoodnessGoodness love your build so far. Hopefully you got some nice still shots of you working with your dad. Those are precious moments. 👌 Don't be afraid to screw your drip edge into the fascia on the front side. Your screws are gasketed so it's still water tight. Also I noticed you haven't nailed in your rimjoist yet. You might consider insulating between your floor joists before you nail that rimjoist on, as it will save you from having to crawl under to do it. Congrats on that baby as well!

@@WoodnessGoodness if you don't mind spending the extra, I'd say it's definitely worth it. Much less hassle and it will save you time and maintenance in the future, not to mention less risk of mold if you plan on having plumbing in there.

Shoulda had a rim joist on the sides, you can see the plywood sagging between joists, kind of a weak spot in the floor.
Saying that, I’m invested in this project now haha

I suggest you verify how a proper header is constructed incorporating jack studs.

Please don't follow his example, his framing experience either has left him or he never had any. There is nothing about this build that's correct. The list is long of the mistakes he's making. But fun to watch.

ah man! Sucks about the screws, but the pressure treated wood isn't the reason they were a problem. Consider how a battery works. You have two different metals that are connected by something conductive - in this case - water because the external structure got wet. The less noble metal (in this case zinc) gives up electrons which flow through the water to the nearest metal (in this case aluminum). As the zinc loses the electrons, it rusts. The real culprit is you have aluminum or steel brackets, then used zinc screws nearby, then the whole thing got wet. On sailboats, we always attach a brick of zinc under our boat so that it rusts and we can replace it instead of all the other metal on our boat rusting. :)

My dream was to build a wooden house. But, unfortunately, in Portugal, wood is very expensive. Besides, I can't just put myself in the forest and build one. Here, in addition to being illegal, it is quite bureaucratic to build something in the forest in this perspective.
FYI, Hikoki products are sold under the name "Metabo HPT" in Canada. Not sure why they had to use a different name but that's why they are so hard to find.

You had a perfectly good opportunity to do some Shou Sugi Ban floors at 3:12 but you wasted it! In all honesty though probably not a good idea to heat up pressure treated wood like that without a respirator.

Yeah, was wondering why you can see the floor joists from the side. Don't you need that lumber (rim joist) to attach your walls' bottom plates?
How did you secure the bottom beams to the concrete? did you bolt them in or is the structure just resting on the concrete posts?
Yes i bolted them down into the concrete. I didn’t know what to do at first that’s why it’s out of order.

On the Box shows the Brand Grip Rite Construction Screws. & clearly says in Yellow Box For use in any non-structural construction project. It does not say Strutural Screws anywhere. You are supposed to know what you are doing.
🙋🏻♀️ Why you used a sort of a gun at the beginning and then the conventional tool for screws?
the gun shoots common nails for the structure, and he uses galvanized screws for decking. screws provide excellent retention of the boards and prevent the dreaded board squeak that occurs when nails are used.
Paulo Barbosa thank you! So the nails are for a temporary or quick solution and screws for a rigid and durable attachment...
@@2102olma no, nails and screws have different purposes in construction. Screws are hard and brittle so arent typically allowed in some spots, particularly when used in shear (e.g. must use nails in joist hangers). Vise versa for nails, you don't want to use them in other situations. Lots of info out there on this if you do a bit of searching!

The walls would have been easier to lift if you had built one section at a time rather than the entire wall. Not only are long walls heavy, but they are floppy, as you found out.

You might be right....
Wasting your time changing the screws. Once the cabin is built, they will no longer be exposed.
