Rabbi Twerski passed away yesterday from Corona Virus. He was a light to the world, righteous and generous. One of my great memories is walking arm-in-arm with him home after a Friday night dinner at the JLE where he was the guest speaker. We had a fascinating conversation that night.

To those people who are insisting that god is the only purpose, or that he's offending some other religion or atheists, please watch it again. He says god may be a purpose, which as a holy man he is of course going to feel. He only says 'may' though, and then goes on to discuss purpose broadly with a variety of ideas. He's being a wise thoughtful guy and so I'm astonished that people can manufacture any kind of offence from this. I'm a lifelong atheist and I think he's wholly right, and a wonderful human being.

P e ople find fault with everything and everybody. Thats bad because it narrows ypur svope of what it means to be a productive member of society. Evangelical christians have a particukarly narrow view of the world and it makes for a often lifeless belief system. Good to hear of a holy man who has something good to say.

Hi Billy, I edit a philosophy magazine, and the consensus of contributors, atheist or theist who comment on this issues, seems to be that you find purpose by investing your life in something bigger than yourself. Do ehat to you is the most important cause that is beyond yourself? Eg environment, poverty, injustice, truth.... Try putting more of yourself into that for six months, and see where that gets you.

It is very difficult to find the purpose in life. It is something I have been searching for since I became conscious about this topic, and the more I think about the more I cannot find it for any of us really. We live as long as we do, and then we just simply die. And the what? Those before us have died, those after us will die and so on and so forth. I feel like there is no really reasons for existence. For example, you study, you study to pass a test or to learn something. If you clean your house, you clean so that you can live in a nice environment where you would not get sick and where you would not feel uncomfortable because who likes to live in "dirty"? When you work, you work to make money. When you make money you buy a house, car , food, etc. So eveything we do, all these "little" tasks have SOME purposes but what is our main and most important purpose as humans? I can't seem to find the answer... And the fact that we will just simply die one day and that's it, nothing?! Oh no man, I can't deal with these thoughts...seriously 🤦‍♀️

I am an atheist, but I don't believe there is a problem with the pope. If you take away the theistic aspect and focus solely on the philosophical aspect of religion, you find that religion's true intentions are generally about cooperation and well being. I think people often forget that 'catholicism' means 'universalism' or unity, inclusion.
The pope, while he may be offending legalist, fundamental members, is trying to bring the church into the modern era by being inclusive and accepting. It has always been this way, this is why you see some pagan traditions in Christian practice. The church wanted to make it easier for pagans to convert.
From a philosophical standpoint, purpose is fleeting and non-inherent. Philosophy encourages us to find personal, transient meaning. This is exactly what the rabbi is trying to do here.

there are plenty) to join in.
      but what they basically do
including their hero in the vatican
is getting fucked in the arse and they seem to like it. as a side effect we lose our continent.

"Come home, grab my slippers and a 6-can of beer..."
This was so beautiful tears immediately sprang to my eyes...
I tell anyone who will listen, the reason nobody wants to seek G-d is because the game's on TV and there's cold beer in the fridge...
Women? Get back from the spa and turn on Real Housewives on the DVR...
Maybe it's just me, Reader's Digest used to have a column... "Life In These United States"
They would never publish anything I would have to contribute on the matter... it would make them look too hard at themselves... they would decide they don't like what they see.... they would wonder what happened, I never used to feel like this?... then they would look around, point their finger at me and say, "AHA, everything was fine until that jerk opened his mouth!"
Meanwhile, I'm left more confused than ever... all I ever wanted was for them to ponder life and find their way to acknowledging G-d...
It's hard, but my purpose is to try everything I can possibly think of to raise awareness...
Allow me this please, if you will...
Quote from a poet, famous for his alcoholism --- maybe not such an logical choice of inspiration, but I hope someone out there can see the relevance to what I'm speaking of here.
"We're all gonna DIE, what a circus! That alone should make us love one another but it doesn't... We're flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing!"

Religion was created ,.or ends up being "to hold bondage." Grace makes and faith takes. A relationship with Christ Jesus keeps me from yoking with pride, prejudice and hate. I remember my father who acted as such he shared with me as a child there is but one authority, a loving God. Once I figured out God loved me first then it was and still is to love others outside of my comfort zone. All is Well.
