These are actually great ideas. I’ve already switched to reusable makeup removing pads and a microfiber mop that you can wash, I’m slowly but surely switching to reusable everything

I love all of the reusable things. I would suggest having separate cloths for napkins, or aka "paper towels" from your face, dusting, and other cleaning. Reducing paper products seems hard but it can be a lot easier in so many ways!

How did you fight the want to buy stuff when you started your journey to minimalism?

    • @ModernMinimalistMom
      @ModernMinimalistMom 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

I'm obviously not Kyra, but I had to find other things to do with my time. I usually shopped out of boredom/stress, so I replaced shopping with better and FREE activities. Working out.. reading a book.. etc. My go to was always shopping, but I stopped making shopping a hobby and that helped a TON.

Charity knitting. I'm limited on space, so I only buy $25 worth of yarn for specific projects and on sale. Reading and audiobooks from the library is a good distraction. I listen and knit or clean.

I stopped going to Homegoods (my ultimate weakness 😂). Stop going to stores "just to browse". Opt out of texts/email/house mail services advertising stores' latest deals. Do other activities with your family and friends, than shopping. Watch lots of TH-cam vids on decluttering, minimalism, and saving money to keep up your motivation. Put together a vision board (mine is virtual on my computer) of the life that you want. If you mess up and buy something non-essential, just go back and return it the next day. I'm closing out my 3rd "no/very low spend" year next month. I've also been decluttering during this time. I'm not a minimalist yet...but it's because I was a borderline hoarder before...so I've actually come a very long way. It all just takes practice.

@@ModernMinimalistMom Yes, seriously. This helped me as well. I'm not a minimalist, but it really helped me get into a better habit with my budget and now I don't care about shopping other than wanting/planning to buy a few things here and there. I couldn't care less about clothes like I used to. I bought a used mountain bike, got it tuned up, and now I'm obsessed with biking instead.

I've had my white cloth shower liner for 10 years and it's still in beautiful condition: all white, no tears. I wash it at least once a month. I originally bought it for $25 at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was a random, unplanned buy that is continuing to pay off 👍

  • @alifewithluna4134

YESS to all of these! I just switched to a cotton shower curtain- I will never go back. We use tea and kitchen towels in my house as napkins too. We actually use just one during meals that everyone shares; my kids just wipe their fingers with them and sometimes their face. I don’t have a reusable sponge like you do. We use the natural loofah and ayate cloths to shower with; and when those are worn out I wash them, boil them and then use them to wash our dishes.when they get extra ratty then I compost them in my backyard. I also have a stainless steel scrubby for messier stuff. I’ve been wanting a silicone baking mat, that might be my next purchase, we’ll see.
I like how your content isn’t only about minimalism, you seem to be on the zero waste train too, I’m really enjoying it!

Johanna Kemp I got some crocheted mini wash cloths about the size of a scrubbie from the thrift store and I LOVE them. They look like miniature washcloths but they are so much easier to hand wash dishes with than a big regular sized washcloth.

I bought those cupcake liners at a garage sale once. Found out why they were selling them. They are sooooooo hard to clean after baking cupcakes or muffins in them. You have to flip each one inside out and scrub in the grooves really well for each. And if you make a batch, well, that’s 12 times of doing that. Instead, just forgo the liners for cupcakes and muffins and oil the cups in the pan instead. It’ll be fine, I promise.
I found the silicone reusable liners work really well for bento type lunches though! Put dry things like pretzels, raisins, grapes, etc in a cup that you don’t want to touch your other food and it fits really well! Then just rinse or wipe out to clean.

Ok I love reusable items too great video I have that k cup filter and baking sheets already love them!! I also got the dryer balls u recommend I’m really looking at getting reusable produce mesh bags because I just hate the little plastics everywhere around the house. Im in California so I use reusable grocery bags not only because they charge but since those bags were all over the house. However I’m not happy that they still will sell u the plastic bags and they’re are very thick plastic so it can be “ reusable” totally defeats the purpose. I know so many ppl who just pay for bags every shopping trip☹️so much for plastic bag ban ugh

You can get those exact same dryer balls at the Dollar Tree. That's where I got mine and you get 2 of them for a buck. The way I don't forget my reusable bags is once I put up my groceries I put the bags by my front door to put them in my trunk when I leave.

my country banned plastic bags at stores, since the new year you can only buy bio-degradable bags at the register but even though they are cheap, people don’t want to buy them and I am sooo happy to se that 9/10 people bring their own bags😍 now they are also starting to sell reusable bags next to fruit/vegetables and many people don’t take the small plastic bags!! I bought bags for produce made from old curtains and they are so handy and nice-looking😄 yesterday I was in a shop near me that is completley plastic-free, you have to bring your own containers if you want pasta, legumes, shampoo, soap.. I am doing as much as I can even though I’m a student on a budget😄💪🏼

The Ultimate Cloth cleans surfaces using only water to achieve a streak-free, spot-free, lint-free and dust-free finish every time! Use it to clean windows, mirrors, windshields, glass, stainless-steel surfaces and appliances, black appliances, granite, tile, TVs, computer screens, eyeglasses, tablets and all hard surfaces. Its unique and exclusive construction allows it to pull in dirt, grease, grime, stickiness, fingerprints, hair spray, bugs, smoke film, tar, brake dust, soap scum and much more
I no longer use glass cleaner, I have been using one cloth for over one year in the bathroom for cleaning the glass show glass and mirror works great, just throw in the washer when dirty. Works great on car windows.

Noooo essential oils can catch fire in the dryer. Wastefreephd on the gram ( not affiliated just follow the acct) has a post on essential oils. I’ve been looking for better shower curtains; thx for the link! I have reusable straws, steel water and coffee cups, bags (they started charging for the new thick plastic ones and they are awful) and I’ve been trying to use more cotton cloths instead of polyester to avoid the micro plastic thing. But then cotton takes a toll on the environment... sigh. Trying to do the best I can :)
