    Yes, this was Kate Siegel’s directorial debut. I didn’t like Stowaway on first watch, but after rewatch I did enjoy it quite a bit. It went from last to #3. I’m excited to see more of her work in the future.

    Very similar rankings from me as well. But I'd switch Stowaway with Live and Let Dive. Both amazing, but Stowaway went beyond cerebral and made me feel something beyond thrills. Let's just say by the end that I was disturbed and kind of sad. The effects were interesting in that you couldn't see everything that was happening but you could see and hear enough to figure out what was going on which was... upsetting. Beautifully disturbing. And man, does it haunt you.

      Yes totally agree. Stowaway ending is upsetting for sure.

    I wasn’t a big fan of fur babies, but the villain actress was very good. Stork was my favorite followed by Live and let dive and Stowaway. Stowaway was a living nightmare, that made me feel so bad for the young lady getting obliterated and put back together over and over.

    For me, this installment of V/H/S was about like the others: there were some awesome segments while others didn't hit as hard. Live and Let Dive and Stowaway were definitely the ones that stuck out to me. Not much of a sci-fi horror fan, but I enjoyed it overall.
    Enjoyed the video! First found your channel when I watched your tier list of all the V/H/S segments you released last year. I had just finished watching the whole series for the first time just before finding that video and loved it. Keep up the good work!

    I wonder what the alien in live and let skydive was doing to the main guy at the end. Stowaway ending was pretty great and i really liked stork. Dreamgirl was alright with me because sometimes, i just wanna see a rampage. The alien in the final sequence was pretty creepy too.

    Stowaway was the only segment i actually liked. It felt genuine and it didn't lean into tongue-in-cheek, over the top horror which is, sadly, now a staple for the current V/H/S films. This segment feels subdued like the first two movies. I also like how abstract it got towards the end. The use of nightvision gave it this dirty black and white look, tied with the body horror practical effects and cerebral directing. It reminded me of Eraserhead.

    Last year I was pretty disappointed with 85 (I’d rank it as the second worst of the franchise) so this blew me away. Enjoyed every segment and overall I’d say this is neck and neck with 94 as the best of the franchise.

  • @Noodles2239

    I had almost the same rankings. I didn’t like Dreamgirl at all, I thought it was generic, cliched as far as VHS segments go.
    I would probably switch Stowaway with the Live and let 🪂. I thought Stowaway was the most cerebral sci-fi of the segments with really interesting original ideas.
    Overall, I think the movie is right up there with the first 2 VHSs (maybe even the best, most of the other movies had 2 or 3 clunkers, and this one only had one).

    Honestly, aside from "Fur Babies" (which is less "bad" and more, "Ew, ew, ew!"), I enjoyed all of the segments. The wraparound wasn't all that interesting, but at least it wasn't... bad. And "Dream Girl"... yeah, ok, it was very... meh. There was that Bollywood number, though, so at least we got something out of it.
    "Stork" was a lot of fun, with a pretty damn good pay-off. I agree about the creature design; amazing!
    "Lie and Let Dive"... it's just really good, ok? Also a lot of fun, but a little more intense than "Stork", due to the POV character having to deal with stuff by himself.
    "Stowaway" Hi, Mike Flanagan! I've been a fan of his for awhile now, and wasn't surprised that he was the writer of this segment (especially with Kate Siegel being the director). I really liked this one!
    "V/H/S/94" is probably my favorite of the movies so far, but this one may be a close second. (-:

    I gotta be a minority here when I say that I was kinda disappointed with this overall.
    The two major issues are: lack of ANY suspense and the feeling of everything being super rushed with 0 character development in any tapes.
    The wraparound story felt like I’m watching a history channel at 2AM. The whole point of overarching narrative is to build the suspense which just didn’t happen here. I feel like if you remove the wraparound and Fur Babies it won’t hurt the movie.
    I feel like the directors went with more visuals and less substances when it comes to plot due to the fact that they have stuck with the sci-fi theme.
    VHS 94 is still the king in the entire franchise

    Really liked this one overall, not as good as 94 IMO but very good. Enjoyed them all except Dream girl. If I had to rank id put stowaway first, the realisation of whats happening is so sad and yet interesting at the same time. All of the set design is amazing, alien looks great. I could actually believe it was a real ship and I was fucking shouting at her to gtfo the moment she went in LMAO

    I'm not a huge fan of alien horror. Er. I love the Alien franchise, especially the first 3, but alien based horror has never really been my favorite. However, they did pretty well with some of these. While it isn't my favorite VHS movie by far, it has some really, really fun horror here. I think Stork and Live and Let Dive were amazing, and while Stowaway is brutal. I just was thinking the whole time, lady I don't believe you are actually this stupid. lol. I like it, though. I just really liked stork for some reason, and Live and Let Die was just badass!

    This movie was... Decent, it had a really good production, with a very amazing creatures design and practical effect. But besides that, I didn't really enjoyed most of the segments, there's a lot of problems that I had with a few of this segments, but generally the slick HD quality combine with the crappy glitches transition is just threw me off, it would be better if the transition is as simple as cut off to next clip or cut to black. And if I rank it,
    Number 6 is dream girl. there's just nothing really interesting in it, the story itself had a really good mark but they miss the point just to have that massacre display, and the in movie "Movie Shot" broke the immersion for me.
    Number 5 is the stork. it had a really good atmosphere, but the character didn't feel like a genuine person. The way they operate it's like seeing kids playing cops, heck in the middle of the chaos one of the character care too much about his police hat... Like really? And not to mention the segment itself keep having this unnecessary cinematic and money shot... I thought they were going to do a raid.
    number 4 Abduction/Adduction. Having the wrap around story as a documentary style is an nice choice, but sadly it didn't build the tension good enough. There was no intrigued on how they deliver the story, and the fact that the in between segments clips was quiet short making it feel more incoherent, but it had a great pay off.
    Number 3 for me is Fur Babies. It's campy, grotesque, and gross. I quite enjoyed it, and the performance of the lady really reminded me of Kathy Bates's performance as Annie Wilkes in Misery.
    Number 2 is Live and Let Dive. It had a really great tension, and even though it was lit under the sunlight, it didn't lose the scare... Not even a bit.
    Number 1 of course Stowaway. It's depressing and disturbing, the second after they flew away... I fell hopeless.

    I really disliked Dream Girl and Fur Babies, not only not about aliens, but both were extremely corny to me. Stork was ok, Stowaway and Live and Let Dive were my favorites but they both didn't make sense in the anthology since no one should have been able to get the tapes. And the documentary/TH-cam thing was stupid to me. I don't understand why they couldn't have people go to the mansion and find the tapes and end with the alien scene since again, the camera angles didn't make sense for found footage but could have if it was like a recovered body cam or something.
    It was the weakest VHS for me.

  • @JDJase
    @JDJase หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    This movie was definitely my least favorite of the franchise, I was overall fairly disappointed. But that is just more of a subjective taste issue, as I’m really not too big on sci fi.
    Part of my frustration is the “framing narrative” not actually being a framing narrative at all, but merely just another unrelated segment split into pieces (perhaps I just missed the tie-in?). More disappointing though was that the setup for the “framing” Abduction segment definitely piqued my interest as it reminded me a bit of mockumentary version of Slumber Party Alien Abduction from VHS 2 (one of my favorite segments). Unfortunately the route they took with it was a very disappointing payoff.
    Stowaway was my favorite segment, particularly the first half of it I really liked. The second half I was just okay for me.
    While every VHS movie has had at least one segment that I absolutely hated, they all also had at least one that I loved. This one lacked any to love for me, so overall it sits at the bottom of my VHS rankings.
    Edit: I forgot about VHS Viral; I guess they’re tied for bottom of the rankings lol.

      @@TheHauntedBeard I think when people say it’s the worst entry they are talking about the overall consistency of how good the segments are. On one hand you have a phenomenal skydiving segment and on the other hand you have Fur Babies which would only really appeal to Long’s fetish fans and has nothing to do with sci-fi.
      Some people on reddit were saying that Beyond was better than 85 and despite the fact that TKNGD is arguably the worst segment of all time, 85 was the darkest entry in terms of its ambiance as well as that two segments were interconnected with a good overarching narrative.

    • @Lifesizemortal
      @Lifesizemortal หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      "Stork" was the only thoroughly great entry and it was the first tape. "Live and Let Dive" is good until it isn't (dumb looking aliens, saved by GoPro). The frame narrative was obviously worked in as an afterthought. Saying this is the "sci-fi" entry is preposterous, as a lot of the same subject matter was covered in previous entries (V/H/S 2 already had an alien segment AND and dog collar cam in the same segment.). A lot of recycled ideas in this one, so I'm not exactly sure why people are going along with the idea that this one is any more sci-fi or original than the rest of them. They barely tried to follow their own premise.

      @@Lifesizemortal fair enough. I'm always interested in hearing where people are coming from, especially when there is total opposite opinions on movies. Thanks for sharing.
      What are your couple favorite segments in the franchise?

    • @Estelle2007
      @Estelle2007 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Lifesizemortal I agree. Scifi was kind of shown a lot earlier. Viral had the portal to a parallel dimension, 94 had a cyborg, 85 had the VR helmet technology god thing. Probably other examples, but my point is that there wasn't really a need for a scifi-centric VHS entry since they kind of had scifi entries sprinkled throughout the series. I actually enjoyed The Stork's creature design, but in my opinion it would've been more interesting without the alien origin or zombies, and instead been like a dark twist on the "fairytale" aspect. Stowaway was cool but made me feel bad for the protagonist. They should've made her more unlikable like the people in Furbabies.
