    Nice. I just made myself one freehand for a 10 as well. I ended up changing the size of the two chambers 3 times and the port size twice until I got it to where it sounds good. Like you said, "you live and you learn".

      They make software, that allows you to simulate the woofer and box. Most of them have an option to load in cabin transfer as well, so no more need to live and learn, just learn then build it right. Look into Hornresp, then look into designing the type of box you want to build using T/S parameters and then how to measuring room/cabin gain, so you can import it to Hornresp. After that you'll laugh at how you used to do it and wonder why.

    You can extend your low end and effieceny by tuning higher

    • @evilinside5984

      That's NOT how 4th order's work. The size of the sealed/rear chamber of a 4th order, along with a woofer's Ts parameter's, & how the enclosure loads in a vehicle will dictate the low freq. output.

    How could I make one if these for a 15?

    • @ocsurfer23
      @ocsurfer23 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can go 2:1 or 3:1, but it will be huge for a 15

    • @calecoats1633
      @calecoats1633 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ocsurfer23 like how big. 4 cubic feet or so?

    • @ocsurfer23
      @ocsurfer23 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@calecoats1633 at the very least least 6. If you go 2:1 thats 2 cubes sealed 4 cubes ported. You could easily go 9 or 12. For example, Soundqubed HDS3.115's are recommended for a roughly 3 cube sealed box. In a 2:1 4th order that works out to 6 subes ported, 9 cubes total. Massive box

    On mine the front of sub is facing other way the magnet side is in my ported section does it matter if so how

    • @vikassm
      @vikassm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Putting the magnet side in the ported chamber is way cooler. Literally 25° cooler after 10 minutes. Magnet side in the sealed chamber is perfect for Canada or Greenland.😂

    • @evilinside5984
      @evilinside5984 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's how the woofer is in this video= Magnet in the ported section= better cooling of the voice coil.

    I have two hdc3 18s and didnt think these subs were 4th order friendly.. I've always heard sounqubed subs like as much air space as they can get... how do they sound in this? just curious

    • @JayyCobb
      @JayyCobb  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The hds is more 4th order friendly than the hdc series. I've always heard the hdc series prefers ported/6th orders but I may be wrong. Back when I had this box playing in my trunk it sounded great. It would play strong down to 28hz and sounded nice and crisp on rock/metal kick bass. Thanks for watching.

      Jeramiah Burns Jr do you know if the hdc3 12s 1 ohm or 2 ohm is best

    • @JayyCobb
      @JayyCobb  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on the lowest impedance your amplifier is rated for and the number of drivers you plan to run.

    • @vernonprice581

      JayyCobb I'm planning on running 2 HDC3 12 2ohn on a Soundquebed 4500 amp

      With 2 dual 2 ohm subs you'll either wire it to .5 ohm in parallel/parallel or 2 ohm in series/parallel. With 2 dual 1 ohm subs you'll wire down to 1 ohm or 4 ohm.

    Hey, I know that this is old but I have a friend who wants to sell me this sub. I contacted Soundqubed and they put me in contact with a builder who said that they don't work in 4th order bandpass boxes. Just wondering what you thought. Thanks

    • @JayyCobb
      @JayyCobb  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had no issues with this sub. Granted, I only had it playing for a few weeks etc while I completed my 6th order in my trunk. If in doubt, just go with a standard ported box. Should you decide that a 4th is what you want, make the sealed side a little larger than I made mine. It played down to around 28hz regardless but I would have liked a little more low end. Let me know if I can help you with anything else. Thanks for watching.

      @JayyCobb  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drrckhamilton I'm a metalhead personally. I like playing bass music that digs really low but I need a system that keeps a kick drum sounding nice and punchy as well. This was one of the best sounding all around builds I've done for it only being a single 10".

      High xmax subs usually aren't recommended for sealed which is why they don't recommend 4th. It doesn't mean you can't try but letting them breathe is preferred.

    • @evilinside5984
      @evilinside5984 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@getit7107- I'm not sure where you heard that high X Max subs aren't recommended for sealed/4th orders? A woofer that performs well in sealed/4ths, that ALSO has a high X Max, can perform BETTER, than a comparable woofer with less X Max. Also Sound Qubed X Max ratings are not what you think. For instance the 36 mm they list for there Hdc3s, is not a 1 way Linear rating. I think its a total linear X Max, so 18 mm 1 way linear. Ds18 does the same thing= super high X Max ratings. I asked them= Ds18, if they say the total= both ways X Max, or the Total X Mech.= peak to peak, mechanically= just as the spiders rip, & or hard bottoming the voice coil(s)= not daily, or useable X Max. Just to get more sales.

    Why do people like bandpass? It sounds so weird...

    • @JayyCobb

      Less mechanical noise 90% of us prefer to use high Xmas subs in a 4th due to the factor of more output less mechanical distortion

    lengthen the port and just run the front open,

    • @evilinside5984
      @evilinside5984 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He said the ported= front chamber, was tuned too low, so he put 45's in the ported chamber, to reduce the airspace, to tune it higher. I think when you said leave the front open, you meant the sealed/rear chamber(where the removable window is)? If so, removing that would unload the woofer= would not perform well. Also tuning the ported/front chamber lower on a 4th order, will just limit the high freq., like a Low pass filter would. Increasing the Net Cu. Ft. of the sealed section would increase the Low freq. Output.

  • @thomus4548

    Just bought two of these subs for black Friday, going on a Skar RP2000.1 amp at 1ohm. I was looking into 4th order but everyone keeps pushing me away saying it won't work blah blah blah. Personally I would have moved your front chamber back a tad, giving you atleast 1 cubic foot of sealed space. SQ recommends 1-1.25 cubic feet on the ported side. Had you done that, you would have been closer to a 2:1 ratio, and everyone tells me that will give you a more musical box. The higher the ratio, the peakier the box gets but narrows the bandwidth. Due to space issues I'll likely just go ported and settle lol. Nice build brotha.

    • @camaroboi13
      @camaroboi13 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Edit: 1-1.25 on the sealed side...not ported. Been a long day lol

      JayyCobb no problem enjoy the sub! I’ll likely build my box on Wednesday but I can’t pull the speakers out till Christmas. Been watching too many videos, can’t wait to rip these 15s out of my trunk and start making some real noise haha

      Oh trust me they will be on my page as soon as they are broken in. I have a quick video of my Kicker CVR 15s on my channel in a sealed box on about 1200 watts. Decent but garbage compared to stuff that's out there now, hence why I am replacing them!
