Toni came to Cincinnati for a book signing at one of our local yarn shops, so of course I went! She is SO nice and down to earth. So I have her Tunisian crochet book, signed by her! :) I love her yarn snob review videos.
I am a francophone so I was so super chuffed when I heard you pronounce the name of your channel in French! Well done, Élise! You did it perfectly! I will certainly look up these books at my local library. And if they don’t have them, I’ll ask them to consider purchasing them 😊 Another great vlog. Cheers
Oh dear! I'm 74 with a house full of books! I don't need more books, but I want at least half of this list now. My mother was a librarian. As an Army brat who moved a lot, books were my friends much of my life. I have 3 bookcases of just quilting and fiber works books. Not one of my kids are into fiber of any kind. I despair of what will become of my books. But I want more!
I know what you mean! One interest that took over my life for months was KUMiHIMO, the art of beautiful braiding. Trying to figure out a way to combine crochet with that artform.....never-ending discoveries!!!!!!
Hi Elise, I sure enjoyed your video today! Thanks for reviewing the books for us. I am always interested in the new books too. Today I turn 60, and I just realized after watching your video that I have been crocheting now for 50 years, a half of a century yarn! I feel suddenly very old, but at the same time still excited about all the projects yet to come. :) I learned to crochet like so many of us did from a sweet older woman in our neighborhood when I was 10 years old. It quickly became a life long passion, as well as knitting. It makes me happy that even after all these years there is always something new to learn as each generation adds their enthusiasm and style to the mix. I have a pretty large library of crochet and knitting books that I have collected over the years. I also collect the old Red Heart magazines, they are my go to patterns when I need inspiration for my afghans. I really enjoy too, the Work Basket booklets that were so popular in my Mom's and Grandma's generation. Two of my other favorites are old Piece Work magazines and Vogue Knitting. I collect as many of those as I can get my hands on. I used to be able to find them in just about any antique mall or thrift store, but now they are becoming harder to find. There are few things I enjoy more than a good cup of tea and an afternoon to peruse these wonderful magazines. Another thing that really inspires me is getting the chance to see from TH-cam videos, how people knit and crochet in other countries, and learning about all the wonderful techniques that they bring to the table. These days I often find the patterns that are in the new books are the same patterns that are in the old books. But what changes is the styling and the colors and the types of yarns, hooks and needles that are used. Someday on my bucket list I want to learn how to make bobbin lace, and how to use a spinning wheel. I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead, I love your channel, it is one of my most favorites!
Happy Birthday!!!!! 🎈🎂🎉 I hope you have a wonderful day!! And thank you for sharing about your 50 year journey with crochet!! 🧶 Wow!! That's so interesting that many of the older patterns have been repurposed into new versions with updated colors and yarns! I have an old book of knitting patterns and I was surprised that there were patterns for underwear and bathing suits!!! All made with wool!! 🧶
Now I want Tunisian crochet book so badly! I discovered Tony thanks to you and I absolutely adore her channel. I didn't know that she wrote a book about Tunisian crochet, but it looks so interesting!
Wonderful! I absolutely love the garden book! I have a crochet flower book on my shelf that I need to pull out to take another look at! I do love physical books. They are a great inspiration!
I purchased the Crochet College Garden for both myself and my mom on presale, it is just so enchanting. Its really easy to follow. I'm interested in trying tunisian.
I confess that I don’t do any amigurumi projects. I’m simply not interested in making toys. However, your collection is so cute and so well done that I just have to look at and admire them. I also love all of your videos and get excited when a new one comes out. You are so much fun to watch. 🧶🧶🧶🌷🌷🌷
Elise, what an informative and exciting video!!! Loved hearing you pronounce your channel in French! Beautiful sound!!! Keep bringing more love and joy into our beautiful world through your amazing video posts and awesome works of art created with yarn.
I'm studying French on Duolingo too! All of these books sound wonderful! But I really like the idea of digital books, it's better for the environment too!
Thank you for your opinions on these books. Also for the suggestion of looking at the library before purchasing books to see what they are like. I have found some wonderful crocheting books at my local libraries monthly sale that they hold. The prices are about 25% of the actual price of the books. A lot of libraries have these sales that people are not aware of. Have a wonderful day. 😊
I’m putting the ‘Handmade Hugs’ and ‘Molly Makes’ books in my cart right now! I’ve made a couple of things I’ve seen on Pinterest by both authors and can’t wait to get my hands on the books! Thank you so much for this video! 💕
When I first started crocheting long ago, I found a small how-to-crochet pamphlet at Woolworth's. I think I bought my first yarn and hook that day. There weren't many books around and no Internet. My very first real project was actually a Tunisian crochet blanket, which I still have and use. Back then they called it Afghan Crochet. Now everyone calls it Tunisian. Now there is an overwhelming amount of books, articles, and videos on everything you could possibly think of about crochet. It's mind boggling.
Thanks for these excellent reviews, Elise! It is great to see titles that might otherwise pass us by! I already have 3D Granny Squares and I bought Toni's book as soon as it came out as I had it on pre-order. I love the Crochet Garden because the flower motifs are so versatile - a fast way to transform a plain bucket hat, for instance! I will also be buying Sarah-Jayne's book, not least because she truly deserves our support.
Thank you so much for your honest review on the crochet books. & I'm so happy you mentioned The Tunisian crochet book by Ms. Toni Lipsey since I already have the book I will look into it. Thank you & Happy Crocheting.
Thanks for reminding us to check our local libraries. They're so underutilized here in the US! Mine has so many knitting books that I can't wait to dig in to.
What a great video! I have over 150 crochet books and I still want more, especially new ones! There's always something new to learn in a good crochet book! And it's great to be able to preview the books by checking them out from my local library before I invest in purchasing them! Thanks so much for reviewing these books. Several of them are going to be added to my crochet library very soon!
Saw your video notification pop up as I was browsing Google for patterns. Up early, another night of little sleep but excited to see a new video you put up with excellent info
Astounded continually at the scope of human creativity. What complete FUN to watch this video. Rushed online to buy the COCO book. Elise....LOVE all you present in your videos!
One favorite? You are so funny! The y are crochet, and they are books! The Tunisian crochet book would be one I want. I know one Tunisian stitch, and only recently learned that there are others. The 3-D Granny squares would be another one I’d choose. Just too cute and so much variety! And the flower book, because FLOWERS! Scrap busting, a little something to give away, a pop of small and pretty in a dull corner. ❤
Just killing time, crocheting and bingeing your channel. I did crochet the Jachmel Scarf out of the Modern Crochet book with very soft Bamboo yarn. It is by far my favorite scarf. Thanks for all you do!
I love books, so nice to have paper in your hands. You can now pre-order the new Unicorns and Dragons and Cute Critter Forest Animals books! I’m so excited to get these too. ☺️💕🧶🙌
Thanks for the review, Elise. It is interesting to see the new books that are out there and, when I began crocheting years ago I use to do different kinds of projects, but since I discovered amigurumi I have no time for anything else. I have so many cute doll and animal projects lined up to make that I will stick to that. I do enjoy seeing what else is out there.
Even my small town library has a new copy of Handmade Hugs and got another awesome granny square pattern book in. It’s becoming so popular! Fun for us crocheters to see others learning how awesome it is!
Hi Elise. I love when you make videos like this. There's so much out there in the crochet world that I am unaware of. 2 books going on my wish list will be the crochet garden book and the 3d granny squares book.
I like the 3D granny squares the most and for my son who is learning to crochet and loving it (he's mad about alpine stitch at the moment), the Bella Coco book would be perfect.
Thank you for this review. I teach an elementary blended class grades 4-6. I will buy the beginner book. I have been teaching my kids to crochet but it is hard to teach. I think a book will really help.
It helps their minds to think in a different and challenging way which makes right and left brain crossover connections. Plus it is good for fine motor skills which helps with writing. Then, it also is good for following directions and seeing patterns with the repeated stitches. Such good brain work.
Thanks for your great book reviews!! I am self taught crocheter. I ordered this book (I can crochet Bella Coco) to see if my techniques are correct. I received it I. One day & enjoyed looking thru it last night. Again thanks for all you do to help us consistently improve😊
I've been looking at the Modern Crochet book but have yet to pick-up. Have Toni's Tunisian Crochet book - love her style, teaching method and overall personality. She taught me how to Tunisian crochet.
I added three to my wish list. I can only use Kindle books’due to being legally blind, so some are just “out of sight”…..forgive the pun, please! 🤭 Now I want to try Tunisian crochet, and the adorable little device covers for littles is just irresistable! I would absolutely make those for the kids at my blind center’s school! I may get Handmade Hugs but enlarge them to blanket size POR MOI. No more babies are in my future. Modern Crochet, a yes IF they make it digiral. Crochet Collage Garden would be wonderful, but the projects are too tiny for me to work with. Did I spy hollyhocks on the back cover? OOOOOh. Thanks, Elise. SUPER helpful, as always!
Hi Elise Thank you so much for sharing these books with us. I loved your reviews. Maybe one day we will see a book from you out there 🤞🏼🙏🏽😉 Take care and stay well. 💗
Thank you for this review, I subscribe to 2 authors TH-cam channels & I love their work. The book I’m so happy about& never heard of is the Modern simple colour crochet. The one you gave 4* to. I will check my local library 1st. I don’t mind some colours but for home decor I love the simple minimalistic colours. Have a great day.
Thank you for this resource. Crochet book listings online don't give this much information as to the content. And also, I love your music choices for this video!
Oh my! I just came across your TH-cam page and loved this review of these crochet books. I am definitely going to add some of these to my home library! I can't wait to check out your other videos.
I like to visit my local libraries and see what crochet books they have in...I'll borrow some, look through to see if anything grabs me, and if something does, then I'll photocopy the pages...that way I'm not filling my bookshelves with books I might not end up using...and most libraries will get books in if you suggest the titles to them..
Well, I am going to purchase the book by Toni Lipse The Tunisian Crochet. There was a few others I would like to have. But I have always wanted to learn this. Have a great day! And Thanks!💜🌹
I think you will love the Tunisian Crochet Handbook! Happy Stitching!! She also has a wonderful TH-cam channel if you haven't seen it before: @tlyarncrafts 🧶📚❤️
I'm most interested in the book of flowers and leaves. Flowers are one of my favorite things to crochet. I don't often have lots of time to devote to bigger projects and flowers are a perfect smaller project. I like to leave them in random places for people to see. I try not to leave them outside because of the weather but i use it as a way to bring a stranger a smile. You never know when someone might look down and see a little crocheted flower tied to a park bench and it might bring them joy too 🙂 The mall is a great place to leave little random flowers. Once i tied one to the cash register at my local gas station and it stayed there for months until one day it was gone and that made me smile too because i thought maybe someone took it to bring someone else a smile. Ya never know 🙂 Random acts of kindness are important. I got the idea from a stitch group i used to hang out with. They used to crochet scarfs and leave them in places with a little tag saying it was free. That made an impression on me as a way to practice random kindness for others.
Hi! Thank you for this review of crochet books 📚 My favorite is Bella Coco - she has been my go-to crochet coach when learning how to crochet. Now I will head over to my library to borrow some more exciting titles in crochet 🧶
I want all that you recommended, I do have a copy of the Tunisian Crochet book on my kindle and I am buying more books there as it saves room in my work room. But having hard copies are nice too. But I really loved all you showed and had been looking at handmade hugs and the modern crochet as Toni on TLCrafts recommended it.
So I found one other crochet book that breaks down stiches really well. I'm sorry but it's crochet for dummies. It has a simple flower pattern that I liked. Only reason why preteen me read it 😆. The other book I really like (it's a few years old now) is botanical flowers and has both knit and crochet patterns. "100 flowers to Knit & Crochet" by Lesley Stanfield.
I love collecting crochet books too and I do not have any of these books. I did pick out a few you reviewed and put them in my Amazon cart. Thanks for your thoughts and opinions on these books
Hello Elise! Wow French lessons?! That is not the worst but also not the easiest! I noticed the impovment when you say Le Petit Saint crochet! 😃👏👏 I couldn't help to be a little disappointed when I saw no amigurumis books? There is SO many new ones that have been published in the last 6 months!!! And some others that are in pre order too!!! But , maybe it's because yourvintend is to dedicate an whole video on them only???😁😉
@@EliseRoseCrochet Oh yesss!😁There's is so many new amigurumis books, it would hav been reaaaaally surprising that you didnt choose at least one to put on today's video. Thats why I figured you had something up to yours sleeves!!!😉😆😁 Yay!!!
Very useful reviews. Thank you for bringing these to us. I am also looking for a book on how to turn a shape into a crochet or knitting patterrn. Would be grateful for any suggestions.
I am going to attempt a knit flat pattern doing Tunisian crochet since I don’t knit but I love the look of it. I’m almost done with my second Amigurumi bear and would my next to be Tunisian knit. I’ve already gone a little crazy buying hooks!
Thanks for the great review of the books. Glenda @ Creative Grandma does great reviews on the magazines. The two of you make me so happy to know what they hold and if they are helpful. You do have quite a few books. I've been trying to find some at the second-hand sites and stores. 😇🙂 3D Granny squares would have to be my favorite.
Love this review! I actually have a couple of those books. Got Toni Lipsey’s Tunisian when it came out. Actually had two other books on Tunisian years ago by Sheryl Thies and took a class from her. Lovely patterns. Also check out “Journey” by Mark Roseboom. Beautiful work! Thanks for the tip to check the library. I used to review and buy a lot of books from “Used Books” store.
I'm Italian, I can only buy them online, they are not in bookstores unfortunately, I also recommend another book, the Harry Potter book for crochet, it has a lot of beautiful projects inspired by the Harry Potter movies
I was so excited to see “eight new books,” but so disappointed that none of them were amigurumi!” Of course I’ve got plenty of books already to keep me busy (based on your recommendations), but still! Currently I keep making the cuties from Dress Up Amigurumi. They’re time consuming but are so darn cute!!
Love the name of your podcast in the French pronunciation! The books are amazing and it would be so hard to pick one, but, I think it would be Handmade Hugs... but, there are very close seconds. Thank you for this great, great video. love, hugs, prayers to you.
Why I love my local library. All the crochet books, magazines, online classes and in house crochet clubs. Don't have to spend any money and if I don't like the book move on to another.
I have watched many of your videos and enjoy them immensely. I don't think I have ever heard you review The Aquatic Amigurumi-by Natasha Tishchenko- if you did, please forgive me. But I picked this up the other day and it is adorable. I want to do every singe crochet pattern in the book! I have never reacted that way before with crochet or knitting books! Each fish, fishmerman, mermaid, etc is so bright and colorful I can't wait to start on it! Please take a look if you haven't and again forgive me if I missed your review of this book!
Thank you! I actually have not reviewed that book yet!! I am planning an amigurumi book review video and will definitely be including that one! Thank you!! ❤
Bella Coco was the TH-camr who finally got crochet to click for me. I'm definitely going to pick that up to support her
That's such a nice thing to do! 🧶🧶🧶
Toni came to Cincinnati for a book signing at one of our local yarn shops, so of course I went! She is SO nice and down to earth. So I have her Tunisian crochet book, signed by her! :) I love her yarn snob review videos.
I'm jealous!!! Would love to have a signed copy of her book!! 🧶❤️📚

Thank you so much for sharing these books with us. I loved your reviews.
Maybe one day we will see a book from you out there 🤞🏼🙏🏽😉
Take care and stay well. 💗
Haha!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the reviews!! 🧶🧶🧶
I meet Tony Lipsey at a fiber festival last year and bought her book. Unfortunately, I didn't get to take a class of hers, hopefully next year.
I really wanted to see her speak at the Our Maker Life conference last year but I ended up not being able to go! Would love to meet Toni in person! 💓
They are very nice designs! Hope you enjoy the book! ❤
Hands down favorite is Toni Lipsey’s book. ❤
It's such a gorgeous one!! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you for this resource. Crochet book listings online don't give this much information as to the content. And also, I love your music choices for this video!
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! ❤
I heard you say the le instead of les right away and I WAS SO EXCITED
Haha!! I'm learning!! 🧶❤️📚
Thanks for going over Chris Norrington book . Those flowers 🌺 are so beautiful . I was wondering if worth buying .
I absolutely love the book! So beautiful and inspiring!! 🧶❤️📚
Your review was really helpful and unbiased. I have 3 of these books but the flowers book looks really intriguing
Thank you!! The Crochet Collage Garden is beautiful!! 🌼🌺🌸
Oh my! I just came across your TH-cam page and loved this review of these crochet books. I am definitely going to add some of these to my home library! I can't wait to check out your other videos.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! ❤
Thank you great advice about the books
I like to visit my local libraries and see what crochet books they have in...I'll borrow some, look through to see if anything grabs me, and if something does, then I'll photocopy the pages...that way I'm not filling my bookshelves with books I might not end up using...and most libraries will get books in if you suggest the titles to them..
Thanks for sharing! 💓
Thanks for sharing, I've put Crochet Collage Garden and 3D Granny Squares on my list. Can't wait to check them out.
They are both great books!! 🧶❤️📚
Thanks for reviewing these books. Very informative 😊
Glad you like them! 🧶❤️📚
You, as always, explain everything so well!
Thank you so much! 🧶❤️📚
I just got the modern crochet book for Christmas, I think it’s pretty interesting and pretty easy so far! Thank you for the awesome video!
You are so welcome! 🧶🧶🧶
Hi Elise, they are all beautiful but I think my favourite one is Bella Coco one 😍📚
It's a great crochet book!! 🧶🧶🧶
I absolutely love this!! What a beautiful way to make the world a better place! 🧶❤️📚💐

Hi! Thank you for this review of crochet books 📚
My favorite is Bella Coco - she has been my go-to crochet coach when learning how to crochet.
Now I will head over to my library to borrow some more exciting titles in crochet 🧶
It's a wonderful book!! Hope your love art has a lot of Clare at crochet books too!! 🧶❤️📚
My favorite is the Crocheted Collage Garden book! I actually went to my LYS today to get some yarn so I can make some of the flowers! ❤
That's wonderful!! It's a fantastic book!! 🧶❤️📚
That's great! There are a lot of great crochet books out there!! 🧶❤️📚
Thanks so much for sharing!! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you for including the Tunisian Crochet book, I've wondered if it would be worth it, but hadn't been able to look inside one yet
It's fantastic!! 📚❤️🧶
Thanks! I've added a couple to my wish list!
Glad you enjoyed it!! 🧶❤️📚
I love collecting crochet books too and I do not have any of these books. I did pick out a few you reviewed and put them in my Amazon cart. Thanks for your thoughts and opinions on these books
I'm so glad you enjoyed the review!! 🧶❤️📚
Hello Elise! Wow French lessons?! That is not the worst but also not the easiest! I noticed the impovment when you say Le Petit Saint crochet! 😃👏👏
I couldn't help to be a little disappointed when I saw no amigurumis books? There is SO many new ones that have been published in the last 6 months!!! And some others that are in pre order too!!! But , maybe it's because yourvintend is to dedicate an whole video on them only???😁😉
Thank you!! And yes, I will devote a whole video just to amigurumi books!!! 🐶🐭🐷🐸🦊
This was just the video I have been looking for! I love books about crochet. Thanks so much for sharing! I am really enjoying your channel.
Thank you so much!! 🧶❤️📚

Great review! the tunisian crochet book is my favorite and toni is excellent at explaining ❤
Toni is amazing!!!! Makes me want to try Tunisian crochet!! 🧶🧶🧶
Oh I'll have to look her up!! Thanks for sharing!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much for sharing!! I think we have a used book store here in my town too! I should check it out!! ❤️❤️❤️
Well, now I want all of these! I have been planning on getting the Garden Collage book, and I'm glad to know you gave it a good review!
It is a gorgeous and inspiring book!! 🧶❤️📚
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! 🧶❤️📚
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching! 📚❤️🧶
This was so helpful! Thank you!
You're so welcome! 🧶🧶🧶
I'm Italian, I can only buy them online, they are not in bookstores unfortunately, I also recommend another book, the Harry Potter book for crochet, it has a lot of beautiful projects inspired by the Harry Potter movies
I have that one!! It's amazing!! ❤
There will be an entire book devoted only to amigurumi! 📚📚📚
Love the name of your podcast in the French pronunciation! The books are amazing and it would be so hard to pick one, but, I think it would be Handmade Hugs... but, there are very close seconds. Thank you for this great, great video. love, hugs, prayers to you.
Thank you!! It is fun to say my channel name in the French way!!! 📚❤️🧶
❤️🥰
I want the Bella Coco crochet book!😍
It's soooo good!! 🧶🧶🧶
Why I love my local library. All the crochet books, magazines, online classes and in house crochet clubs. Don't have to spend any money and if I don't like the book move on to another.
That is wonderful!! 🧶🧶🧶
Thanks for the recommendations ❤️🌹🌹🌹
Definitely getting the crochet garden collage and the 3D granny book 😁
Nice review. Thanks. 💕🌸
You’re welcome 😊
These are all so cool! Gonna go see if my library has any of these
The library is such a great resource!! 📚❤️🧶
Thank you so much ❤ I got loads of money for my birthday; I think I’m going to invest in all the books ❤
Happy birthday! 🎊 Hope you enjoy your shopping spree!! 📚
@@EliseRoseCrochet thanks!! ❤❤❤❤
I just bought the 3D granny square book. So fun
There are so many cute patterns in that one!! 💓
Yes 👍 perfectly explained
Thank you! 🧶❤️📚
Thank you!! ❤
My public library has a really good collection of Crochet books and past magazines. I was really shocked when I moved here.
That's wonderful!!!! 📚❤️🧶
Love the reviews!!! My favorite is Bella Coco❤
It is such a great book!!! 🧶❤️📚
Thank you for the review of these books! ❤ As always, I learn so much from you! 😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! So many amazing books! ❤
@@EliseRoseCrochet I agree!❤❤❤
