i had 4 tubes pop in less than a week, finally on the fourth swap my bike shop found a problem with the tire, so we fixed that, but he didnt have any 27.5" x 3.0" tubes in schrader, so i got presta, and they made it so much more confusing than it had to be for me to learn how to inflate it 🤣 Thanks for the help for my first air refill

I'm going to give people a "hack" I found out about a few years ago that most people don't know about.
Hate to correct the content creator on this one, but I do not see any inherent advantage a Presta valve has over a Schrader valve, and here's why: On any air gauge you can buy at any bike shop, any gas station, big-box department store like Dollar General, Family Dollar, or Wal-Mart, or any hardware, auto parts, or tool store (i.e., Harbor Freight), what you will find is what looks like a small tip on the back side of where you put the gauge on a Schrader valve to check air pressure. What that tip is for, believe it or not, is as a release tool for the Schrader valve in case you over-inflate your tires! In other words, a pump puts air in, and that tip on the back side of the air gauge presses in the valve to let air out.
So no, you do not need a small screwdriver to release the air from a Schrader valve, because if you've got an air gauge, you also have an air release tool already that is built in to the gauge.
    Happy cruising!

Sorry Scott, but Presta should never been invented! No way, no how is Presta good, and certainly not better. We need to stop this nonsense and get these Presta valves removed from bikes. I have heard all sorts of BS excuses to why they use Presta, and it is all a scam! One twit told me it is because they can hold higher pressures, ahh big rigs use over 100 psi, and our very own rear shocks on our bikes use over 300, so nope try again bud! The next dill hole tells me its cause they can go to low psi, ahh nope try again ass clown ATV's use 4 PSI, and an ATV runs in 10 times worse terrain with the most terrible mud, rocks trees ect... As for your idea of lowering air, you should be using a gauge to indicate what the psi is, and they do just fine letting air out of a Schrader. as well if they used a valve stem off a big rig you would get a super strong setup that would add strength to the rim. but they like to fool you into paying way more $ for bike stuff.

  • @flares

That little thin bit you press in to release the air is deliberately put inside on a schrader valve to stop it accidently being pressed. It's safer. It's been used for years by thousands of people. It's a much simpler and superior design to the presta.

  • @dsp4392
    @dsp4392 ปีที่แล้ว +6

The adapter is nice, but it won't work with most schrader gauges, so while you can inflate, you can't check your tire pressure. Really shines a light on how having a second standard, even if slightly more "user friendly", is ultimately quite hostile by the simple fact that it is a second, slightly different standard, requiring adapters and sometimes two of the same tool. If you have a choice, always get schrader valves on your bike. It'll make your life a lot easier.

Car tires are Shrader, lower end bikes are Shrader, 19 wheelers are Shrader. Even the valve on our 4-gallon tank for filtered drinking water in our kitchen sink is Shrader. I bought a Santa Cruz 5010 two years ago and the bike shop couldn't install traders because of the pandemic. So, I have been tolerating them, Aat first I came in with an open mind, now I want them gone, special adapters, etc. Now I am looking at TH-cam videos, on how to drill properly in the rims and install Shrader's on my Santa Cruz, the rims are narrow, and that is possibly the deal breaker.

Here's a question: with this adapter, I can't get the compressor hose end, that you attach to the valve stem, to actually release air and pump the tire...? In past, I've recognized that there is a small valve tip inside this hose end that must be compressed to allow air to pump. Some of these adapter are 1 mm short for instance, so the valve stem, with the Schrader adapter, are short n therefore do not press the small valve in the end of the compressor hose. I've thrown a tiny little rock in there to make up for that difference. Where that has worked, today, it, didn't? I went by 2 gas stations and Costco tire garage...nada. Could not get the air to go in. By way, I'm trying to bead my tide onto my rim. So i need that large surge of air...today, I couldn't even get the air to come out at all. Nada. There must be something I dont understand that these gas station type hose ends must have in order to work...and all 4 of my different adapters weren't compatible. Any ideas?

I will still add a cap to the adaptor. Don’t want mud and dirt to get all over the presta inlet.

Tnx Scott. Even my wife will be able to use the adapter now. Rather annoying that the adapters are not included, or at the very least mentioned when buying a pump.

Was helpful... but u really didn't show/explain how to and how far to unswrew the presta values before screwing on the Schrader adaptor

No point in having a Presta valve unless you have a very narrow rim or a deep one that will only work with a Presta, Deflating a Schrader valve is not as difficult as you make out. I was going to point out that you should not install the lock nut on the valve stem, but when you said it was tubeless I realize it is necessary after all.

Something that happened to me is that my adapter has a rubber fitting that was left on in the valve so my air was escaping thought the adapter

Yeah, those "old fashioned" Schrader valves are for losers 😂
Presta valves are soooo much better, I don't even know how we got by with those outdated ones for a hundred years 🤷

Hi! Question, will your Ryobi seat a tubeless 27.5X2.6 tire?

I hate those stupid things. Why do bike shops insist on putting in valves that have to have an adapter and that I have to be reminded every year when it gets warm enough to ride local trails that this is how the adapter works. One more case of replacing something that works fine with something that doesn't.

Hi how can you convert a presta valve to schrader valve every time i try to pump my tire the threads break off the top of the valve is there a tip for the pump that supports the whole valve and not just the little threaded part at the top or is there some kind of fitting that will screw on the weak presta valve to give it more support when filling the tire thanks

Thanks! Would you know why air tip unscrews, but it’s loose and when I put the adapter on, it pushes the tip in? Any ideas

The Ryobi inflator actually comes with its own presta adapter.
They put it over the needle valve adapter in the accessory tray so they can fit three adapters in two slots.
It's not the best quality since it's plastic.
    But it's there.

Scott, you are spot on about that Ryobi inflator. I've had the analog version and it's been bulletproof. Actually, the whole Ryobi One-Plus ecosystem is an amazing value, and Home Depot has those... and probably lots of other stores sell these Ryobi products, but Home Depot has pretty much everything that Ryobi offers in that line, and Amazon, not so much. And no, I don't work for HD or Ryobi.
Also, the Ryobi inflator already comes with a Presta adapter, it's the gray plastic thing, slipped over the basketball needle. But buying more Presta adapters is a good idea anyway.

I find that adapter to be a pain in the arse. It is so hard to get it on just right so that the electric compressor snaps on just right. Sometimes I can screw the adpater on in 1 shot and pop up no problem. Other times I have to fiddle around with how much the adapter is screwed on and then fiddle around with the threaded end of the presta valve. I am really looking for a quicker/ slicker way to inflate tires.
