I'm gonna guess a lot of new players like it because its so easy to get kills without being interrupted by the objective. Basically cheap team deathmatch. Anyone who's played for more than 10 hours knows how bad that map is -competitively- in general.
We don't talk about it because valve murdered it while we were distracted with a shiny new update (which ended not being as shiny as we thought) It is a really great map that should be brought back to life
ProtoZilla I was referring to how the level whole map design is. The main section of the map is flat and open. Sniping is easy because you can just look left or right. No Z-axis required.

Barnblitz is one of the few maps in the game that actually does chokepoints well. Unlike Hoodoo and Goldrush, it's not one massive corridor with little height variation or flank routes. Barnblitz has both of these in abundance. Come to think about it, if there was ever a "Final Boss" of TF2, it would be Barnblitz last.
I hate harvest and suijin, but I also love it. The maps themselves are brilliant and great for the game, but that's why I hate it, Most of the players in those maps are complete try harder, no love no mercy and they rage a lot in chat, that's why I hate them, in very simplified terms
Spicy Both of those maps are excellent for soldiers to do nothing but spam the control point from above, thats what I hate about them. Cow mangler + conch = point camping
Spicy I actually don't like the openness of harvest. I don't know why, I just never really liked harvest. Suijin I don't even have an excuse I just don't like it
2Fort's problem is when you join casual it directly throw you at it you may wanna play it but you just need to not select it to search. Because its the 1st thing to catch your matchmaking so i always not select ctf. Not very good but you may understand
The fact that steel is so disliked shows that people don't like confusing maps (that aren't too confusing if you play it 3 or 4 times which is likely out of the attention span of most players)
I like Steel except at the end game with how it's stupidly extremely difficult to get to and cover E point as Red after D point is captured. Blu doesn't really need to do anything to actually push on last. It could basically be a four point map at that point. I mean has anyone ever seen a successful defense of last (E) after the first four points were captured?
I hate when people say the maps are confusing. Back when the game was released, there were only 6 maps : 2fort, Dustbowl, Granary, Gravelpit, CP_well, and hydro. And to be honest, TF2 was my first online shooter, and my, maybe 4th PC FPS (Given I only had a PC in 2004 and internet in 2005), and although I sucked at it at first, I learned how to play, the game got less confusing. I get that more weapons, more stats, more maps, more gamemodes and all can be confusing, and I can accept confusion the first few times, because its part of discovering, but past that, I don't get it. People should just take time to understand the maps instead of just quitting and giving it hate, really, Hydro wasn't that bad, its just people never cared to learn how it worked. There are big arrows that tell you where to go, I dunno what else you need. The only reason its "Bad" is because its old and not too well adapted to newer gameplay that came from weapons. Same for CP_Steel, its a really good map, despite its flaws, it had good ideas, I hated it too at first because I didn't get it at first, but after roughly 5 full games on it, I connected the dots that E was the only really important point, and that one player should be harrassing RED by trying to cap it, as it basically creates diversion for the rest of the team. Now though, I guess 10 years old kids don't have that type of attention to details, but they shouldn't be playing at that point.
Just because other maps have worse choke points doesn't mean he can't dislike Steel AND those maps. I don't really like or dislike Steel, it's kind of a clusterfuck and the directions to the points for the red team aren't very clear. Having played it numerous times I still get lost occasionally trying to follow those directions.
Ok suprised hydro got so much hate considering almost half the people I know with 2000+ hours haven't even played the map before. Let alone the people with less hours. Since it's not on major rotations people often play one match get confused and never learn the map. There are far worse ones out there that make less sense but people get forced to play them and learn them due to rotation of maps lol
Jai Jyoti I played tc_hydro in casual, once. It was incredibly glitchy- with each team being on a different ""stages" of the map half of the rounds. I had played hydro with bots before that, but I didn't enjoy it that much... Never played it, since..
Sorry can you please detail how the teams were on different stages? That glitch sounds absolutely gamebreaking and i've played over 90 matches on hydro without encountering it. Are you sure it wasn't just not knowing the map and that the next part of map is determined by which team caps etc
The concept was good on paper, but it practice, it's an uncomfortable map for most tf2 players, and earned the quote "2 second victory or stalemate" Played it before, and i only liked the last stage
I've encountered the 'teams on different stages' glitch a couple of times as well, pretty annoying, but I wouldn't call it common. Mostly it's a map that requires both teams to know the map setups and have an appropriate class balance as well or the match will be over super fast. Unlike for example payload which is usually pretty generous, with teams having many chances to get their act together.
It's my favorite map for how diverse it is. Probably the most thought out and interesting map in the game. So many ways to attack, so many flank routes, so many ways to play. It even makes turtle Engi fun because of how many threats you have to deal with, making the wrangler a neccesity.
i only like the last section of dustbowl because the first two always play out one of two ways; either the attacking team rolls the defenders or the defending team pushes the attackers all the way back to spawn, until the very end where BLU suicide rushes the second point. The third section is usually pretty fun and I like the different ways you can approach the final point.
AZNwannabe06 ctf_sawmill till 2-3 months ago was completely forgotten , nowdays i see it played , not much like 2fort but still played. ctf_well its missing from quite a long time
2fort!? I love 2Fort! This is honestly such a map that has stuck with me, and I played on it first, as well as a lot of my early games. Although, it’s not very convenient, so huh.
I don’t know why, but I love dustbowl. I have a long history with the map. It was the first map I ever played and I looked for a server just for dustbowl. After that, I got hooked.
Steel is actually one of my favorite maps! I already knew it was underrated because it can take a lot of time to find a match on Steel, but I dont mind waiting long for it. I think my favs are steel, mountain lab, gorge, snowycoast and a bunch of other payload maps.
hmm. maybe mannpower or passtime should somehow be more than ctf. mannpower can just be adding powers to any regular gamemode. but passtime by nature is moving one thing to elsewhere.
I really like steel that's weird - also I hate Junction and I'm surprised it didn't get more hate. It's just super hard for Blu to win. At all. Point B has badly made spawns and it's subject to a lot of spawn camping. The choke from A to B is also pretty massive and it only really takes one sentry and/or a sticky spamming demo (with perhaps a kritz up his ass) to completely nullify Blu's pushes. Let's not forget Point C which is nigh impossible for Blu to counter any turtling engies. That's why it's my least favourite map. I like dustbowl and hydro much better.
I think there should be a poll for least played.maps because there are so many maps that you never come across in tf2casual by just selecting all the coregamemodes
5 years of playing TF2 and i still love me some cozy 2fort now and then And no, it is not swarming with f2ps as everyone who doesn't play it claim it is
First we need more payload race maps. second what's the problem with Nightfall or Pipeline? Is it because it requires more attention to the cart? Genuine question.
I honestly love hydro, sure it is extremely choke point heavy but it feels like 1 giant battle and it takes your entire team to win a round because a spy could easily back cap if no one is watching. I feel it actually takes skill and tactics to win and sure if you're playing in valve servers you're not going to get that out of every teammate but I feel that it could honestly be a great game mode if there were better maps.
I'm not surprised that 2fort is the most hated. When you play the map for the first time, you get a pretty good feel to it, but after playing the map quite a few times you grow to hate it.
Don't understand why people dislike Egypt. It's a nice map that is reasonably open but also a few tight areas for the risky flanks. I suppose the last point on first is hard to cap but that doesn't really ruin it for me. Anyone wanna share their opinion?
It's weird that people don't have issues with frontier (which while the train thing is a cool idea, I find the map soiled by bing what feels like an uphill climb almost the whole map) and Upward (which the final stage always leaves a sour taste in my mouth) It seems to me that the community seems to be on board with just giving defenders height advantage for a fair part of the map.
Perhaps there's a reason that people like defense to have a height advantage? The games on those maps are usually pretty close when the teams are balanced. Maybe attack is just easier so giving defenders the high ground gives them that little push they needed to become balanced.
5:08 lol forgot the rocket jumper nerf about not taking the intel afro also really 2 fort is the most hated? I mean yea its objectively terrible map wise but I still can enjoy myself but with it whilst double cross and turbine is just annoying to me. maybe its just because I love the 2 fort middle ground also meme load outs on 2 fort is perfections.
It's not at all surprising that Hoodoo is overwhelmingly hated more than Barn Blitz. At least Blitz has high ground for the attackers coming into the last point and a few ways to attack it and the second point has quite a few weaker points. When a team successfully caps all three on hoodoo they almost always hold the first map or even first point while defending. On Barn Blitz I don't tend to find it so decisive. There's bias sure but not overwhelming, I feel the attackers have more opportunities on all parts of the map, whereas Hoodoo? It's a defensive snore fest.
Shame, i actually really like ad_junction mostly because it is an enclosed space with lots of sharp corners making it the perfect hunting ground for pyro mains like me.
It's small, and it's like every CTF map: One team goes for the other team, letting the other team have someone like a scout sneak over to their intel, taking it, or an engineer setting up base in their intel.
Well the reason why i hate 2fort, turbine dustbowl and junction is because they are so narrow. I mostly play tf2 for jumping and when im in a server i like to just market garden. So i need open maps, not these narrow small maps where you feel claustrophobic. But i understand why new players tend to like narrow maps: they are easier to play. Less confusing and easier to get kills on. Cause when maps are small, you can get kills by just spamming in a specific direction or placing a sentry gun at a chokepoint etc. No offense to new players tho
I never really understood the hate 2Fort gets. I have over 1800 hours in this game across 3 years (playing since June 2014), and 2Fort has remained my favourite map in the game (except in the very beginning - back then it was Viaduct). And I'm not one of those Snipers who sits on the balcony all day shooting other Snipers, or that Engi... well actually, Engineer is one of my most played classes... BUT nevertheless I enjoy playing pretty much all classes on this map (yes, even the Medic, but not Scout), I like the fact that the matches are often very long, and some of my best moments in TF2 come from this map.
1. It lacks health packs and ammunition 2. To get the Intel you forcefully have to get really close to the enemy's spawn points 3. Speaking of spawn points, the random chance to get to the other spawn is often a time-waster expecially if you are in an hurry. 4. Once you're down the lake, if you are not able to jump back on top you have to forcefully go through one of the sewer tunnels. 5. The map has very limited free-roaming. 6. For all of these reasons, the map is known for frequent stalemates. As much as you like those, it's boring for a lot of people who would rather finish the game.
1. Which encourages mobile Engineers and Medics 2. Which encourages cooperation and is the case with any CTF map. 3. I only found it annoying if I'm an Engineer, otherwise it's not a big deal. 4. You can jump out with rocket or sticky jumping, might be even possible with grenade jumping. Mayble flare jumps as well, and wrangler jumps. Winger + Atomizer might work too. Just don't jump in the water if you want a way out. 5. As is the case with almost all 2007 and 2008 maps. 6. According to Cosmic Afro's polls, about 45% of players like long matches, so it's almost 50/50
You know why I hate 2 fort? Every time I go on it on the end when you vote for the next one it's 2 fort again. It's always 2 fort, again AND AGAIN AND AGAIN *AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN*
*Any poll result that doesn't have cp_Well and ctf_Well as the WORST DESIGNED STOCK MAP EVER must be broken.* Seriously, I could go on a rant about how cp/ctf_Well is absurdedly oversized, how extremely flat it is, how it has no useful flank routes at all, how you can get killed in that pseudo-set-up waiting time before the gates into mid house even open because Soldiers and Demomen can jump over the train waggons at the side, how it has no cover from above, how the entire upstairs area in the bases is basically useless because not even snipers go up to the windows because the windows are useless. And last but not least, how utterly unfun Well is to play for any classes except Scouts, Soldiers and Demomen (and then only if you are a 6v6 comp league player) because unless you are skilled in fast blastjump roll-outs or are a Scout, it takes YEARS to cross that map.
*Other early maps like cp_Dustbowl (3rd stage) and pl_Hoodoo are also horribly designed. They're basically one giant narrow choke.* Or shall I talk about RED spawncamping BLU on cp_Dustbowl and pl_Goldrush, where once set-up time is over and the gates for BLU open, RED can enter the previously gated area in front of BLU's tiny single-room spawn and just spam inside? Same with cp_Gorge and cp_5Gorge's forward spawns on top of that ledge, or pl_Frontier's forward spawn at CP1, a single tiny room with a single exit and not even cover inside... Worse, that forward spawn on Frontier is a "time-share" spawns that switches ownership from RED to BLU once the point is capped, so if you just spawned there as a RED, step outside just as checkpoint gets capped, suddenly the gate behind you opens and spits out BLU enemies.
It's actually kinda surprising that 2fort is the most hated, while also being the most played.
I'm gonna guess a lot of new players like it because its so easy to get kills without being interrupted by the objective.
Basically cheap team deathmatch. Anyone who's played for more than 10 hours knows how bad that map is -competitively- in general.
That guy you don't know I was surprised by the diversity in the answers. Like control points.
+Jag24 Around the time Matpat decided to glance at TF2, I had a joke that TF2 did, in fact, have a Team Deathmatch: 2Fort.
i'm the same with you about 2fort
good point to be honest
We dont talk about RD_Asteroid.
First Last I loved that game mode!
First Last I never even got play it before, looks so fun though first time playing it.
Like the map design, hate the concept of the gamemode
I liked rd_asteroid :
We don't talk about it because valve murdered it while we were distracted with a shiny new update (which ended not being as shiny as we thought)
It is a really great map that should be brought back to life
I don't like Nucleus because there are very few ways to avoid snipers, not because of the center point.
Still very interesting results though.
Mark Guyton What are you talking about, Doom simulator is awesome!
How is Nucleus anything like Doom?
ProtoZilla I was referring to how the level whole map design is. The main section of the map is flat and open. Sniping is easy because you can just look left or right. No Z-axis required.

Hydro last is undefendable without an immediate heavy rush, and the team that caps has an immediate advantage at all times.
Hey, just wanted to say how much I enjoy your content, your positive attitude is refreshing.
The psychology of a single player as "the breadwinner", who carries the briefcase and scores the point, is naturally at odds with a team-based game.
They should make capture the flag for mvm. Just have a team going in and getting the Australiam.
That would be tattable with giant scouts
imcintyre01 mvm is capture the flag in disguise
defend the flag , a flag that actually should never reach your base.
imcintyre01 mvm is capture the flag
MvM is CTF for the Robots. For everyone else, it's a defence gamemode.
cp_steel was a maze for me
Its definitely confusing at first, but once you've had a few games its a really interesting and unique map.
It's my favorite map for how diverse it is. Probably the most thought out and interesting map in the game. So many ways to attack, so many flank routes, so many ways to play. It even makes turtle Engi fun because of how many threats you have to deal with, making the wrangler a neccesity.
Doge same
For me it still is
I love the irony that your cosmic AFRO but he has no hair. It's beautiful
Can't wait for the next poll
thinking about this, the action slot (below cosmetics) could be the grenades slot, or there should exist another slot for it.
i only like the last section of dustbowl because the first two always play out one of two ways; either the attacking team rolls the defenders or the defending team pushes the attackers all the way back to spawn, until the very end where BLU suicide rushes the second point. i'm still a little disappointed that there was no MVM maps listed, even if theres only 5.
Harvest all day everyday!
what ever happened to ctf_well?
That and ctf_sawmill were the only fun CTF maps, so valve killed them.
they killed off all maps in two different game modes because people are too dumb to tell ctf_well apart from regular well
Actually, they left both the badlands maps in, (CP and KOTH) which just is even more confusing...
AZNwannabe06 ctf_sawmill till 2-3 months ago was completely forgotten , nowdays i see it played , not much like 2fort but still played.
ctf_well its missing from quite a long time

2Fort > Turbine
=3=
So many maps in TF2, yet I find myself being put in the same few over and over.
2fort!? I love 2Fort! This is honestly such a map that has stuck with me, and I played on it first, as well as a lot of my early games. Although, it’s not very convenient, so huh.
What about MvM? I understand is more co-op based but I find it odd its the only gamemode not present.
PALGAMER630 worst mvm map is decoy it's so god damn small
Yeah I can see why. Plus there's no "pit" in the entire map which is worse. All the more reason I try to stick with Rottenburg.
you literally shoot robots the only thing that changes is if you either get giants or tanks or giants and tanks
+Ralph The Frog thats why ppl only play 2 cities (not only it have the best maps but its rewards are better)
CUZ EVERYONE LOVES MVM
I don’t know why, but I love dustbowl. I have a long history with the map. It was the first map I ever played and I looked for a server just for dustbowl. After that, I got hooked.

Sykens me too ;-;
Sykens turbine my guilty pleasure. I also like 2 fort cuz u can do whatever u want. Good for experimenting
do you guys need some medical help?
It is okay if other player hate it if u enjoy it and have fun
Dustbowl is a shiity map, terribly designed, HOWEVER, I love playing it. It is really weird.
The only bad thing is the last point, i am sure many games were lost by BLU there
Steel is fucking awesome.

How do you see your fps in the top left? I'd love to use that! Is it just in toonhud or...?
Zach Zeaman Fraps can do this
Where can I vote in the polls
I... actually like 2fort.
A little.
How many players actually play plr_nightfall?
wow, the least favorited maps are also the most played, wtf?
Hoovy4Life #TF2 tf2 players are masochistic I guess
5 years of playing TF2 and i still love me some cozy 2fort now and then

First we need more payload race maps. second what's the problem with Nightfall or Pipeline? Is it because it requires more attention to the cart? Genuine question.
Tc hydro is the best map with the best gamemode
Finally! A man of good taste has made a comment on the glorious map known as hydro
+Bill Lipiridis pffffahahahaha
seriously tho you are joking right
Have you ever even played it
Bill Lipiridis yeah I love that map
how to join the polls?
I love Mannpower though.
I honestly love hydro, sure it is extremely choke point heavy but it feels like 1 giant battle and it takes your entire team to win a round because a spy could easily back cap if no one is watching. its 5cp for dumbies
Ayyy Steel was somewhere on there! I'll take 5%, that map is too clustered.
Turbine: claustrophobic chokepoint simulator.
I don't mind dustbowl's 1st erea, and I would even say I love the second erea, but on the third erea you can't even get out of spawn on some occasions
area*
I fucking love Junction and Steel.
And I don't know why either.
I'm not surprised that 2fort is the most hated. When you play the map for the first time, you get a pretty good feel to it, but after playing the map quite a few times you grow to hate it.

Dem 300 fps, tell me what does your pc have? (like, gb,Ghz, motherboard, etc, etc.)

I have a Mac and I run an average of 240 FPS with all medium options and mat_phong 0 on sometimes :P

I really don't care about the map I'm playing or gamemode I'm in, if I am enjoying it, then that's what it matters.
I love 2 fort. Sometimes I let friendlies live.
is it weird that turbine is my favorite map, and that i bought a map stamp for it?
That One Guy lol i did aswell
That One Guy your name is very fitting
me too is my fave
Turbine is good for about 5 people on each team max, with more people I feel claustrophobic
yes
Frontier really? It seems to me every match on that map ends up with 5 heavies travelling on the cart....
Knew 2fort would be the most hated.
I like Junction.
*Cries tears salty enough to melt steel beams.*
Heh, Steel.
Heh.
Heh-heh...
*Laughs Maniacally*
I'm not surprised people dislike Mannpower.
It's like playing on a Saigns server where everyone has Premium.
Wow steel is my favorite map
The diversity on some of these answers honestly surprises me.
Especially on control points
Me:wait, ALL THESE ARE POPULAR
Also I bloody LOVE (ctf) hellfire
Upward, badwater, frontier are my favs
dustbowl ends in seconds
Nobody defends the objevtive, then scout asshole runs into final capture point and caps it so fast
Shame, i actually really like ad_junction mostly because it is an enclosed space with lots of sharp corners making it the perfect hunting ground for pyro mains like me.
its called cp_jounction
Seeing that 300fps cap make me tickle me fancy
I love CTF to be honest
Was 2bine in the poll?
Turbine? Wtf?? That's the best map of all time I fucking love it!
NIKo Its good for max. 4-5 people on each team, with more I feel claustrophobic
1. It lacks health packs and ammunition
2. To get the Intel you forcefully have to get really close to the enemy's spawn points
1. Which encourages mobile Engineers and Medics
I don't see the problem.
People don't like Pipeline and Nightfall because they aren't shitty DM fests like Hightower is.
barnblitz has one last point choke hoodoo and goldrush are a chokepoint
*Any poll result that doesn't have cp_Well and ctf_Well as the WORST DESIGNED STOCK MAP EVER must be broken.*
Seriously, I could go on a rant about how cp/ctf_Well is absurdedly oversized, how extremely flat it is, how it has no useful flank routes at all, how you can get killed in that pseudo-set-up waiting time before the gates into mid house even open because Soldiers and Demomen can jump over the train waggons at the side, how it has no cover from above, how the entire upstairs area in the bases is basically useless because not even snipers go up to the windows because the windows are useless.
Worse, that forward spawn on Frontier is a "time-share" spawns that switches ownership from RED to BLU once the point is capped, so if you just spawned there as a RED, step outside just as checkpoint gets capped, suddenly the gate behind you opens and spits out BLU enemies.
pl_Barnblitz is awesome.
Well is one of my favorites
I actually really like Hydro and I wish it could come back and be remade.
Wingserver i agree, hydro's cool, but it's the most OG map out there, so i think it shouldn't be touched. However, i'd really like seeing more TC maps
what about Cactus Canyon?
Also I love hoodoo and nightfall.
Rest in piece ctf_sawmill, my favorite map, will you return ever again?
Still don't know why it was removed
I actually have no idea what junction is. I've never played that map before and I have 633 hours in TF2
Undead Unicorn good for you. It's a really tiny attack defense map where it's impossible to push if there's a mediocre demo on defense
Statistics + TF2 = o.O
But steels a good map because it's totally not easy for engies to get behind the last point and set up a nest
Dustbowl and steel are my favorite co maps
Hydro is least liked in misc? I doubt most voters played it more than 5 times
My favourite official map is either cp_yukon or cp_vanguard.
Mannpower is the best mode in the entire game. Sure, its literally the most broken gamemode in TF2 but thats why its fun.
my favorite maps are 2fort, turbine, and dustbowl
