Akai Force & MPC Live & Access Virus - Live Melodic Techno Trance Hardware Performance Mix Set Jam

  • Akai Force & MPC Live & Access Virus - Live Melodic Techno Trance Hardware Performance Mix Set Jam contains 7 songs. My workflow for this set was to use only 4 tracks per song. The first one is a drum program and the other 3 are midi tracks that are sent to the access virus.
    After every song program changes are triggered to load new sounds in the virus. This way you could go on almost indefinitely until the force has no more clips left.
    I am working very hard these corona days to create more live performances because it's just an amazing thing to do.

      @@Expectaz.. Thank you for replying; I appreciate you. I will take a look at some of your other videos, and sub. Also, I have a question.. Is the "autosampler" feature available in the Force software, similar to the MPC software, which automatically makes a multisample from any MIDI instrument? This would seal the deal for me, as I regret selling the MPC Live **for this feature alone, which is worth the price of the unit**. In my opinion. Thank you! :)

    • @Expectaz
      @Expectaz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @SnowMetal Yes the autosampler is definitely available.. Feature wise the Force and MPC are almost the same. Only thing that is really different is the workflow: mpc vs ableton style. I have both mpc and force and would go for the force 9 times out of 10 if I was in the market today 😚

    • @danieklerr
      @danieklerr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Expectaz .. I'm glad to hear that; thank you. I scanned the manual for this, and only found the feature to set an amplitude threshold for automatic sampling. This is not the same, and I'm glad to hear the proper automatic-multisampling is present. Thank you so much!

      @Expectaz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! How do you like the Force? It's real easy to create songs on! I love the Hype Synth. Sounds are very good too. Only thing I would like for Akai to add is program changes for the internal synths. If they do, you can do exactly what I do in this set.

    • @ZZKJ396
      @ZZKJ396 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Expectaz Love it, I'm only just scratching the surface tho. The internal synths are great, I wasn't expecting too much but I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality and being able to map parameters onto the knobs blew me away too. That said, yeah its weird that they don't have program changes. Using my external gear I(think) can to that via midi but not with the internal synths?!?

      Hey Jelle, In this set I use the MPC to trigger samples and effects. But my main idea is to connect them both to a dj mixer and play like a dj too. I’m able to sync them with the ableton link protocol and I can load a new track on the device that isn’t playing. Works like a charm! Ps, thanks for subscribing. En je naam klinkt nederlands?

    I think you have the best-sounding hardware jams of all the YT musicians I watch. I also have a Force but never got into the workflow (the common complaint, right?). So I recently picked up an SL MKIII as primary sequencer and will use the Force as slave plus secondary sequencer as needed giving me 8 more tracks (plus control of all synths via midi merge) and effects, samples, and whatnot.
    Anyways. Can I ask what compression you're using, if any? I think I hear some, although the Force's sound can kind of give the impression of compression where there is none. I want a little tighter sound out of my live synth setup so I just ordered the FMR RNC to check it out, but I'm curious what your approach/thoughts are on using live compression on the main outs of a keyboard rig. Not even going for the EDM "pump"... just adding a little glue.
    Thanks for the music, you help inspire me to keep at it. :)

      Thanks a lot!! To me it’s the other way around. I come from ableton and must say that the Force really helps me flow my creativity because there are not that many distractions.
      Fun fact, on this set I don’t use compression. There’s only a maximizer on the master to make sure there’s no clipping and all drums across the set are about the same loudness. Yeah I do lower the threshold a little and there is a fairly high ratio. I think that’s what you hear. But this set is really easy. Track 1 is a drum program on the force, 2-4 are midi channels going to the virus. Same for the last 4 channels (5 force, 6-8 virus). The virus has this vibe to it that makes it fit into the mix. No special eq used on the sounds. On the drums I do spend some time to get them exactly right. Most important is tuning/pitching them correctly to the root note of the track. Also some subtle distortion on the kick for some extra punch. I think that’s what makes them fit perfectly giving then their own space and blend together with the sounds.

    Great set man! Do you only use Mpc live to trigger samples? or you use it to create clips on the fly? Cheers

    • @Expectaz
      @Expectaz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey @Rubbé thx man! I use the mpc in many ways. The workflow is different than the force and love to play the notes in realtime instead of step sequencing. Works very well together with other grooveboxes like the elektrons and novations..

      @@Expectaz OFC! I got the live 2 retro as the brain of my setup. I love it, but the live looping is horrible and the step sequencer isn't user friendly to create quick pattern. Which is why I was wondering if Akai force was more appropriate for my use.

    Do you create empty patterns that only contains the program changes?

    • @Expectaz
      @Expectaz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Nowadays it’s very easy on the force. When you hold the clip on the screen there’s a settings button. On that screen you can set the bank and program number for each clip, works great

    Great tunes and demo of the Force! Do you have any videos where you explain your setup?
    What do you mean by "
    After every song program changes are triggered to load new sounds in the virus. This way you could go on almost indefinitely until the force has no more clips left."?

    • @Expectaz
      @Expectaz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! I don’t use much ram of the force. Only for drum sounds in this instance. The rest of the sounds is from the access virus and new sounds are loaded when needed by sending a program change

    Very solid set with minimal gear and tracks! Curious if the MPC Live was doing anything more than the occasional one-shot... it looks like the Force was handling drums and midi sequences.. was the MPC Live used for anything else in this track? I'm really loving the Force/Virus combo, btw...

    • @Expectaz

      Yeah you saw that correctly!! In this set there are only some swooshes and oneshot fx on the mpc. Wanted to focus on the force, not sure how to integrate the mpc yet. My initial thought was to set them up with a dj mixer so I cpuld load new tracks on the device thst wasn’t playing and put the DJ mixer between them. How would you approach it or do have have suggestions? Love to know!

    • @massimovisconti2013

      Expectaz on the Force you can save tracks, so you can have different parts of a song assigned to the pads of that track, when that one is playing you just need to load a new track with the next song and keep jamming forever. A dj mixer would be useful so you have instant access to volumes, eqs etc. What do you think?

    • @Expectaz
      @Expectaz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that’s totally true. I did a set like that too. Started with an empty project and load tracks progressively. You don’t even need a dj mixer then, but it’s really nice to have. I use a djm 2000 from pioneer for that. Still figuring what’s the best way but that’s definitely an option!

      Occasionally you need to delete tracks that you’ve played and purge the unused samples after that.

      Hey Simon. This recording was done with my iPhone XS. Both video and audio. I have the camera connection kit which is connected to my pioneer djm2000 mixer. Any usb class compliant audio interface or mixer should work. The video and audio are recorded together which i then upload to my computer. I open the video file in davinci resolve and use ozone 9 to bring up the levels and apply some mastering eq. Works like a charm!

      Thanks for the fast answer. I have a force too and i want to upload some tracks. I am recording into fl studio but the mp3 data at the end doesnt sound like i have played it before on the force. The kick is too loud and a bit distorted. I've got a focusrite scarlet interface. I will try your way and see if i can do something. :)

      The clips contain loops if that’s what you mean. But both audio and midi. Program changes are sent to the virus when a new song is coming.
