RULES:
Give each player 2 chess dice. Normal dice can be used by assigning pieces to the numbers as so: 1 is pawn, 2 is knight, 3 is bishop, 4 is rook, 5 is queen, and 6 is king. On your turn you roll both dice, then pick 1 of your pieces to move as indicated by one of the dice rolled. You may not move a piece if you didn’t roll it. If you roll doubles, then you choose any one of your pieces to move.
If you have no legal move for either die rolled, then you lose your turn without moving and your opponent goes. You may castle under the normal conditions if you roll a rook, king, or doubles. You may only use en passant if you roll a pawn or doubles the very next turn when the first opportunity for the en passant capture arises. If you don’t, you may not use en passant on a later turn. When you are in check, you may only move pieces rolled that allow you to handle getting out of check. If your roll is unable to do that, then you lose your turn but you do not automatically lose the game. However, you will lose the game if your opponent rolls the appropriate pieces needed to capture your king. Then they are allowed to capture it and win. If they fail to do so, then you are allowed to try and roll again to escape check.
The first player to capture their opponent’s king or to position their pieces into checkmate, immediately wins. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
there is a variant to this dice game, except it does not use dice, instead the player can choose any peice to move on their turn. apparently, it's quite a popular variant.

@@veto_5762it’s the bongcloud. Mathematically the worst opening in all of chess
You'd think you wouldn't automatically lose in this version under normal Checkmate, since there's the possibility you could roll out of it over consecutive turns. In the example in the video of a checkmate, if the threatened player rolled Pawn, they could take out the Bishop, and if the black player failed to roll Knight next turn, the white player could roll to escape.
Yes you got what I was thinking
Yeah I thought something was weird since these variants usually don't let u checkmate
The position above counts as "checkmate" in this variant since if you are in check during your turn, you are prohibited from making moves which do not get the King out of check. Moving into the sight of the bishop would still leave the King in check.
@@davidpement So you can't move the king, but as stated above, if you and I were playing this and as white I rolled Pawn I can capture the bishop (yes that keeps the Knight on me, but it breaks the "mate")
Also the rest of the rules say to end the game you need to roll a piece that has me in check, so what if you roll Queen/Rook? Since you can't legally move either piece that has me in check, you can't capture me, which means according to the rest of the rules you almost can't mate, even by position (since in normal chess as long as your pieces can legally move, you can move any you have here though to move a piece you either need to roll it, or roll doubles) So let's look at this "mate"
Turn starts as board is shown in the (normal game) mate example
My turn: Pawn/Rook
I use Pawn to take out your bishop
Your Turn: Pawn/Bishop
Your only remaining Bishop is the dark square one and while it can capture a piece (the Pawn at D2) and put me in check, I can still break a possible mate
Since you failed to roll Knight or doubles though, you can't move the Knight to capture me
My Turn: Pawn/Pawn
My Double roll allows me to move any piece, I move my king one space forward, this takes it out of the Knight's line of fire and on to a light square, so even if you DO roll Bishop again your Bishop can't capture me since it can only move on the squares of the color it started the game on

@@GiggleSharts I know that 5d chess exists but didnt know that Hikaru played it, only say aliensrock (puzzle game yt) played it while i was watching his hexcells series
With the mechanics of the dice I feel like it would make more sense to cut check/checkmate entirely and just make the only win condition to capture the king
That’d turn stalemate into a win though, since the video doesn’t state stalemate no longer occurs when you cannot move any of your pieces with any rolls you can make
You can also spice it up by rolling the dice for your next turn. Meaning that you move your chosen piece, then roll for your next move so your opponent sees what options you have when deciding which of their own pieces to move where and vice versa.
This is similar to a 2 vs 2 variant called handbrain chess, where you are only allowed to move the piece your teammate names, but you can move it anywhere you want.
I feel like dice chess would be better if you could move anything without rolling if you are in check
I've seen a version where you keep rolling until you get a legal move, so no turn is skipped. I find it a bit more fair. In the version presented here, it looks a bit too easy to just cause check and make it likely for the opponent to lose turns.
Or even just move the dice that you rolled,
whaaat no! This is what makes it special! Any check may be your last if lady luck won't blow your dice

Hi, do u mind making a video on Chinese chess? I'll appreciate that.
There's a version that says you don't have to respond to check and you can just play a move if your dice don't allow you to escape check.
This videos are weirdly addictive
So if the king is in checkmate you don't have to roll the dice? seems a bit contradictory with the rest of the rules, you'd have to define what checkmate means in this variant, as in, if pieces are able to block or capturde the piece delivering checkmate you don't roll the dice? And if that is unsuccessful, doesn't the opponent have to roll the dice to actually deliver checkmate with the piece?
Imagine moving your E pawn, then rolling a rook and a king on the dice…
What about stalemates and pawn promotions?
Well you have to use en passe right away anyway or not?

What chess pieces are you using in this video? I already purchased the dice via your link.
Unless the chess game he is describing uses a unique board (See Puzzle Chess) or a severely different rule set that it comes with its own board (see No Stress Chess) or pieces (I forgot which one but he did a video where pieces could combine and separate) he uses a custom board and custom pieces that he got made for his channel

Hello
0:41 oh no, not the bongcloud opening
i think a far better version of dice chess would be to play chess regularly but have each player role a dice when someone wants to capture to see who wins the capture
if the attacker rolls higher, the capture goes as usual, if however the defender rolls higher, then the attacking piece gets captured instead
Cool

Pfff, this is like baby. Here is my version of dice chess;
First, get a whole bunch of dice, preferably these Dice Chess dice. You'll need 15 per player, and each player's must be in an identifiable colour.
Set up the board as normal, except replace all piece except the Kings with one of the dice, turned to the face of the piece it is (so your second row has a set of dice showing pawns, for example). Every dice is considered to be the piece it shows, and moves and acts accordingly, with one addition; after each of your moves, you re-roll the dice that moved, then replace it where it was (unless you moved your king, which obviously doesn't need moving).
If you move a piece to your second row, and it becomes a pawn, it does get the option to move two spaces on it's next turn. If you move a piece to your first row and it becomes a rook, it can castle with the king as long as there's space between them and the king hasn't yet moved. Dice that show the king do move as a king, but are not restricted by check, can be captured as with any other piece, and the game doesn't end if that happens captured; only the none-dice king counts for check + mate. If you checkmate your opponents none-dice king, you win.
For a slightly more sensible variant, dice are only rerolled upon taking an opponents piece, instead of after every move.
For a much less sensible variant, the king is also replaced with a dice, and you lose the game when you have no kings left. Yes, that means that depending on how the dice go, you could wind up with a whole lot of kings. Yes, that means that, if you only have one king, you have a 5/6 chance of immediately losing the game when you move it.
You can also combine all this with the "Dice Chess" rules above; when it's your turn, roll two dice, and you can only move dice that match the type shown on the dice you rolled.
So if your opponent checkmates you you immediately lose?
Isn't that how regular chess goes? I dunno I don't play chess
@@TheFairytail4ever Ye in normal chess if u get checkmated the opponent automatically wins
Yeah, if the way your opponent puts you in check is checkmate, no matter what move you’ll do you won’t get out of it.
So it is a “special case” where you don’t have to wait for your opponent to capture your king
But it makes no sense since if I get checkmated but my opponent rolls nothing allowing him to capture my king while I get things allowing me to capture all checking pieces within like 2 or 3 turns then I'd be even able to win later if not this checkmate rule.
But Castling is a King move
So, take away some of the strategy and add some luck to the game?
Change that rule: if you have no legal move because of the dice, then its like you rolled doubles
This RNG chess basically
So chess but its luck based?
an alternative way is to play with two 8-sided dice
