The switching tops makes me have ideas about a chess game where you have little guys atop castles or something. Maybe having the big ones colourless and little guys can take control of them
Is there any point to inter change the tops of the foreseeable spider, or is it just a decorative thing? Also it's nice to see Staunton Style variants of custom chess pieces. Most of them (Diplomat, Archbishop, Chancellor, etc.) are just in Disc form to my knowledge.
Some sets do switch the top colors of some units, typically the king, in order to help make them clearer and stand out more. So flipping the fortress/spider could be seen as a way to prevent them getting confused with the rook. But again this is mostly for aesthetics and clarity for some people.
Wow, we all love the Dragon when it's a Queen on a Knight's horse. But as usual, Dragons, like the Queen, can also be the most harassed piece in the game.

Ah, but that is the beauty if it. Neutral pieces are controlled by a player only when one of their pieces could capture it that turn. So, if your bishop could take a neutral Fortress, that Fortress is under your command. However, when you move it to capture the enemy bishop, it is now in line of attack from your opponent's knight, so they control can move it now.

Lets imagine a situation: a rook and a bishop are threatning to capture the queen that is defending the king. The queen has any musketeer behind her. Can the queen move (or capture) in that situation because there would instantly be a muskteer in her place?
i have an idea for anonher chess variant. corpse chess. the rules are the same as normal chess, exept for these changes: pieces dont get captured, they die. if a piece dies, their corpse lays on the battlefield and that space cannot be occupied by other pieces. if a piece kills another piece, they will move to the space occupied by the corpse like normal, but cant go back after it leaves. this is the only exeption to the previous rule. whenever a piece kills another, they become invincible until they move, the only exeption being the king and the queen for obvious reasons. pieces also cant move through corpses, so walling off the king to a part of the board, just to capture him later is not possible. additional optional challenge: the corpspspspspsps could deteriorate over a certain number of turns, until they are just removed from the board.
