The most underrated metallica album. Some of the riffs on it are actually crazy technical for Metallica.

Fr, the unforgiven 3 is one of the absolute best Metallica songs, killer riff, beautiful intro and orchestral dynamics, and the solo is one of kirks best, it should be more popular 100%
Listening to Metallica's newest album then going back to this makes me remember how brutally underappreciated this album was, if this came out in the 90s people would've been singing its praises
If it was mixed better it'd be a 9. As it stands in my eyes, it's a 7, which is still a damn good album. Definitely preferred hardwired and Seasons to Death Magnetic, but DM is definitely the return to metal I was hoping for after St. Anger. They just need to let the sound engineers do their job instead of insisting so much. Still good tunes, and it's easy to look past the rough edges.

My friend had the GH3 version of this album on his ipod instead of the official release, just because it sounded better.
I feel your pain on that Suicide & Redemption outro, FCing that song 4 times was pain.
This album really was the last time Metallica had unironically good solos.

I always wondered why you talked so much during songs. I know I wouldn't be able to stay focused on Chat and FC the song I'm playing at the same time if I streamed any Guitar Hero difficulty, much less Expert and more. Mad props for being able to do both, for lack of a better word, expertly.

All Nightmare Long was the only reason I was able to get 'Now That's Impressive' for that it has my gratitude.

Aw man, all these songs bring back good memories. I saw Metallica in Perth during their Death Magnetic tour. I got lucky enough to high-five a couple of them as they came out during the Ecstacy of Gold, then it immediately kicked into Thay Was Just Your Life.

Metallica's best album of the 21st Century. Great melodies and a pretty consistent sound throughout.
I blame Rick Rubin and his awful compression for it being somewhat underappreciated.
It’s so fucking weird how Rick Rubin made some of the best sounding albums with some of the greatest rock bands, but then Death Magnetic is just this… sore thumb.
@@ripperplaysclon152 As far as I understand, Rubin always pushed for loud records, and at the time there was kind of an arms race for who could produce the loudest album (The Loudness Wars), so he overdid it.
Add to that Lars' and James' weird tastes when it comes to mixing, and you get this mess.

It absolutely wasn't Rick's fault that the album was crunched into oblivion. Blame Lars for fucking with it. Go listen to Rick's production on American Head Charge's "The War Of Art" back in 01, you'll see what I'm talking about.
The high points on Hardwired are better than anything on DM but DM is a more consistent record. Hardwired has a few stinkers to offset its 4-5 bangers.

I have unironically when I wanted to listen to this album I would legit look up on TH-cam music “Guitar Hero Death Magnetic album” just to have the best quality audio without feeling like I’m going death from the horrible “Loudness war” mix that metallic was going for… listing to you play & commentary is amazing you killed it
My friend and I held the global high score on 360 for Suicide and Redemption JH for a little while so the song has a special place in my heart for that reason. We wanted to get to number one for S&R KH too but we were just permanently stuck in the top 10 before giving up.

Ive always quite enjoyed this album, yes it aint AJFA or such, but its a nice comeback from St Anger, songs like The Day That Never Comes are cool on it.
All Nightmare Long is the only reason why have the 750k+ score in a song solo achievement in this game. I ain't good enough to do it on devil or TTFAF and an Ernten was wir saen FC with a good path is also a bit out of my reach.
I enjoy this album. Kinda falls off in the second half, but the first 5 songs are killer. If only the mastering and production wasn’t over compressed and brick walled to shit. Though the streaming version and the version in GH3 sounds decent.

If you can get your hands on a Trinity or Corona 16mb, and are comfortable soldering, RGH3'ing a 360 is super easy nowadays with the pi pico!

I'm so happy to see others agreeing with me that DM was actually a really good album. I thought it was "ok" at the time, but I recently went back and listened to it, and was blown away how good it actually was. For some reason it reminds me of their progressive, AJFA style, which i love.

Yo Alec, since you asked, Watsky has just released a new album a short while back! I think it got delayed by covid etc, but he's been releasing videos from the album in the last few weeks. I'm less keen on it than I was on a lot of his other work (especially Cardboard Castles and xInfinity), but he's certainly got some nice sounds going on. I've not been able to FC it up to the relevant point, but the "unhittable" note in ANL on hard mode, from looking at the chart it feels like there is a G note missing - I say that because they do the same pattern another two times and each time has a G note before the B. so I'm wondering if you strummed a G note as if there was one there, would it lose the streak or count it??
Based on what he said, there's a forced strum event there, but no note attached, so regardless it's impossible to hit. Essentially it has absolutely no color assigned

The original CD of this album was notorious for bad sound quality so people downloaded off a GH3 due to better sound. How sad when a video game had a better sound than a retail version lol
sucks to see the chart for suicide & redemption being a snooze fest because it is easily my favorite metallica song such a masterpiece intrumental.
Death Magnetic is on the weaker side but honestly for what its worth the effort is there and they still got a couple bangers lol

I can actually admire Metallica's somewhat more raw (and progressive?) approach to this album, but the extended runtime of most tracks on Death Magnetic really do feel like they sequenced a bunch of riffs and stuck them together because they couldn't decide on an ending. It's certainly not a bad album, but it's a tough listen at times. The compression on some releases does it no favours, either.
I patched GH2 Deluxe with FreeDVDBoot and burned it onto a DVD and it plays on my PS2 slim (occasionally crashes though)
