Cannot wait until the co-op video! Loved this so much! I have so many great memories playing this game back in the day, and still play today through Clone Hero!
What an awesome video, congrats Jack! I was contemplating going back and making an achievement video for a GH game too, I used to adore these games back in the day. Also, glad you knew about All Nightmare Long. Didn't get the 750k until that track pack came out too lol. Can't wait to see the next part. Also, makes me want to go back and finish cleaning up achievements for GH3.
I was 13/14 when this came out, and I played this non-stop. I could clear any song on expert, and was so proud to have scored 86% on Through the Fire and Flames. All that being said, I COULD NOT beat the final boss battle. That was just too much, and I have lots of respect to anyone who can beat him on expert
Use the first power-up as the Whammy on Lou’s set of alt-strumming green notes and you can end the battle immediately to win without struggling. Trust me, try that and you’ll beat the Expert difficulty.
I grew up with guitar hero 3 onwards only ever playing with a controller, and personally consider it easier than the few times I've played with a guitar, and watching you struggle with the controller that much was a soul rendering experience.
You know you played too much GH3 when you can identify the songs just from looking at the notes you have to play with no sound. I remember being TRAUMATIZED trying to do Raining Blood %100 on expert, all the triplets really had their way with me.
interesting that the 750k achievement icon says 1M. it's literally impossible to get 1,000,000 points in singleplayer: the theoretical perfect score on Through the Fire and Flames is 991,934 (played by a bot on PC with uncapped framerate). 1,000,000 was probably possible at some point, but the devs had to continually reduce the difficulty of Flames during development because nobody could pass it
Ironically, Strumming is the Left Joystick, and the Whammy is Right Joystick. O was Orange, and Select was Star. L2 green, L1 Red, R1 Yellow, R2 Blue. (I played it on PS3; Too late to buy a proper guitar, so I did it all on Controller. Was very fun.
It’s not too late now to get a plastic Guitar recently, you can get a new one online. If the prices are too expensive for you, FaceBook Marketplace, Goodwills, and Thrift Stores have the cheapest options. If that’s not available, you’ll have to work for it. But it’s worth giving it a try, it’s more comfortable to use than a standard controller on certain hard songs like Knights Of Cydonia on Expert. NOTE: If you’re playing Rock Band games on console normally, you can’t use a standard controller for Guitar or Bass. It’s gonna force you to use a plastic Guitar to access it.
I'm one of those nerds that have this 100%. Infact I have all the GH and rockband games 100% completed achievement wise. By far my fav games over the years. These days I play more drums than guitar.
That is crazy. Some of the achievements that I haven't managed yet are the 575k creeping death on GHM & 5* all songs on GHVH. Maybe one day I'll get back to them!
@JForJackPlays I think GHVH is one of the toughest completions out of both RB and GH. GH2 was tricky for the local 2nd player you needed to be very good also. Thanks for the vid as well bro I really enjoyed the trip down memory lane.
26:53 Fun Fact: On the All Nightmares Long hard chart on GH3 there is an invisible note that is impossible to hit so the FC for the song is impossible, and this is the only song that has this from what I remember.
@@JForJackPlays I mainly play Holiday in Cambodia, Cities on Flames, Black Magic Woman, Sabotage, Bulls on Parade and Cult of Personality and the last time I was there in May I was still at or near the top of most songs on most machines. So if you see Chief on the list then that's me xD
Gh3 is my first guitar hero and I still play it till this day and when he said “I don’t know if it’s even possible to complete expert on controller but someone out there probably has” it gave me Vietnam flashbacks because knights of Cydonia was INCREDIBLY HARD I’d just position my controller in a way where I can tap the button really fast at the time I didn’t have a guitar and on offer up they’d be going for like 50-100 dollars
Been playing guitar for 2 years and can play everlong in my sleep. Went to a friends house and they were playing guitar hero. I loaded up everlong thinking “No way I’m not gonna play on expert, I play the song on a real guitar I can definitely easily play it on a cheap plastic toy.” …… I failed in 10 seconds
Never underestimate how the game works. Lower difficulties are necessary to warm up and play on a lot before you jump to the higher difficulties right away. Expert is never like playing real guitar on Guitar Hero/Rock Band games. You can’t just expect to be better at Expert because you just “played the song on real guitar before”. The game wants you to practice on the lower difficulties, even every real musician needs to know that once they try it out.
Smash hits had arguably the hardest achievement I've seen: Bloody feet - 5 star Raining Blood on expert+ drums. Two simple requirements: 1. have a drum kit good enough to even work well with two pedals. 2. be basically a professional drummer who can play double bass on a slayer song.
Man, it really sucks that TH-cam doesn't let you play the music. I really wish I could still play this. I still have aps3 and guitar and the games, all I'm missing is the friggin dongle, this video really made me wanna pick it back up
One thing to mention, don’t play PS3 Guitar Hero and Rock Band if the dongles are difficult to get and connect, it’s not worth it. Get the PS2 or Xbox 360 versions instead.
Another great video! GH3 is definitely one of the hardest games to get 1000G on. I played the game religiously back when it came out and only got to about the 800 mark (helped by a few glitches to unlock the lefty and controller achievements). I was good but a friend of mine was a real GH wizard and we even had some co-op high scores in the top 10 of the global rankings for a few songs - Me playing bass, of course!
@@JForJackPlays Was missing a lot of the ranked online and the 5-starring every song on co-op achievements. You could only get the co-op one through local play and this was an online friend who I didn't know IRL.
answering your question in 14:15.. I finished GH3 on expert using a controller.. and Knights of Cydonia was so hard!! I took the controller with my left hand.. and when the spamming notes begins, I used my right hand, middle finger and index finger swaping to fast! and press the start button when the new notes begin.. like green spaming > middle and index finger swaping fast (L2) > when the green ends, I pressed start and swap my fingers to the red button (L1), return the music and middle and index finger swaping fast on L1.. and I did it all the music and this is how I beat the Matt Bellamy in GH3 in the controller UASUHSAUHUSA
Iv been rinsing your content since I found your channel recently. Really enjoy your videos man. You've hit a perfect little niche in my brain. Commentary, challenge and edits are great.
Pro tip, if you have to fast strum on controller as long as its like yellow blue or orange, you can hold say blue and tap green and red to help strum faster, me and my lottle bro use to be gods at the controller, if its green or red you cant do it though sadly
14:04 Controller player here: I was able to do *most* of Expert with a ps2 control. Funny enough it was "Holiday in Cambodia" that stopped my playthrough because the intro was too fast for me to get through. "Knights of Cydonia" was possible for me by saving the star power for strumming parts, since your meter increases faster when powered up. Other songs that I felt were too hard to beat were "Raining Blood" and "One."
This is AMAZING! I've been playing GH3 since it first came out, but I never got to use the actual guitar. I always played with the console controller. Never beat TTFAF on Expert, congrats.
Me, a controller player back in PS2 and now a Gamepad Mode player in Clone Hero hearing about his difficulty using a controller, made me chuckle a bit. Knowing that there's a trick and practicing it to not tire out your hands using the controller where you can just hold all the buttons except one when doing a multi-note strum session and use your fastest finger in the set of notes to do the strums (for example, you have a red and blue strum combo, you can hold the red, and then strum it with blue) Idk if you can do this in GH3 though, but you can always strum solo notes with a note in lower position than the note you're currently strumming (for example, you can hold orange and then strum it with yellow which is my fastest finger, doesn't work for multi notes, use the one above instead.) Oh, for the PS2 games, you can also use the up and down dpad buttons to do strums iirc, that's one of the first things i found when i'm a kid back in GH2, you can't do this in Clone Hero. It's genuinely easier to do the more complex up down scales and stairs in gamepad than the guitar controller imo. But strumming in general is easier in guitar, especially since you can spam it during Hammer-Ons/Hop-Offs and don't get overstrums. On controllers, your button presses is also counted as a strum, so the game played more like those modern rhythm games like osu!mania or DJMax, but without ghost tapping. (Friday Night Funkin's base game comes to mind for the most recent example.)
I might show how i often play gamepad mode using my keyboard in Clone Hero, but i'm too lazy to do it, and i don't want to end up looking like i'm advertising my channel.
Dude this is just awesome to see! As a Clone hero player i really wanna point out how difficult playing GH3 on console is compared to playing Clone Hero and you would definitely "look" better and feel like you ARE better if you tested your skills out in that game :) Not being capped on framerate along with all the other QoL changes truly makes for a more spammy experience :b With that said, keep it up champ. Easy like+sub
Only achievement I never got was the 500 wins online. I just couldn't force myself to grind it out. Got the 750k on Cyanide, though near the end of my time playing GH3 I managed to just barely get 750k on TTFAF. Only got it by a few hundred points. I didn't get the achievement with it but knowing I would have with just the base game was extremely rewarding and probably one my proudest gaming moments. This video was a fun trip down memory lane. Kinda disappointed I never grinded out the 500 wins to finish it off.
i only played on controller growing up and managed to get myself enlightened guitarist and completed it on expert difficulty, theres a "glitch" type of strumming when you hold anything above reds "note" that you can press any colours "strings" to play the note as if you were strumming on the guitar rapidly, only green that "glitch" doesnt work on since theres no lower notes than that. watching this video made me wanna boot up GH3, had to stop playing since all the newer versions required a guitar
I really need to earn that 750k points achievement at some point as well. Super grats on this achievement; certainly a dedicated skill is required to complete these achievements and you certainly have that.
If you bought the DLC song “All Nightmare Long" by Metallica, it’s your easiest way you can get to get the achievement. If not, Through The Fire And Flames on Expert is your only option on console normally.
I remember getting the 1k notes achievement by playing TTFAF on easy, and unless I'm remembering incorrectly, wasn't there an achievement to beating a song blind on expert? If so, I learned Bulls on Parade to get that one.
I got GH3 the night it dropped due to winning a GH contest in my local GameStop, and I only just this year got all the achievements. That Big Ol Pile of Wins one took forever, and the 750k on TTFAF was no joke either. Welcome to the club homie B) lol
This video was great brought back a lot of memories for me. I’m one of the ones that finished this game 1000G and it took soooooo much time!! When I was first learning the game I remember expert being really rough. If I attempted this again I think the only song that would give me issues would be raining blood! My lord that was so rough to five star!
You're a much better guitar hero player than me but your performance on The Flood section is pretty close to what I was able to achieve. Just a mindless cascade of fingers
This was one set of achievements I got and I never, ever, ever, EVER want to try to complete again, so I definitely salute you. Meanwhile, I've been sitting with one achievement left in GH: Metallica since that game came out, and that really gets on my nerves. One of these days, I'm gonna finish it.
Sends me back to when I was forced to learn how to play on Console Controller because the guitar was for my brother lmao. Ended up getting good enough to even 5 start TTFATF by the end of many years of practice. I still play on it from time to time just for fun.
That’s the point of Guitar Hero/Rock Band in the first place. It’s a way to warm-up your fingers before moving on to the real guitar. More fun that way than any other painful finger exercises that make it harder for no reason according to Drew Gooden on TH-cam (shoutout to that guy for saying that in his Guitar Hero video) if you’re built differently. It even teaches people that never played a guitar in their life.
14:14 I exclusively play GHIII with a standard controller and there's actually a way to do fast strumming on single notes. Let's say there's a large string of yellow notes, you actually hold down the yellow button (R1/RB) while quickly tapping between the green and red buttons and the game counts it as repeatedly tapping the yellow button. This only works for yellow, blue, and orange because the buttons you alternate between need to be lower frets than the one you're holding. This means that this trick simply does not work on green and red notes. I've been playing this game since 2007 on regular controller across PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360, and yet I still can't beat Expert because of Raining Blood and One. I think I have 5 stars and almost every other song with the standard controller, though. Some of the charts are just so insanely fun on the standard controller, and I'm sad they removed the ability to play with it in the later band focused games, but at least it forced me to get good with the guitar controller as well.

I went and wctually learned left handed, only because my friends were learning the game and it made it fair in versus
I have a glassed entertainment system behind me which I could use to play left-handedly lol. But I have done that back in the day. Either that or I would lay on my back in my bed and play it with my head upside down, looking at the screen and watch as the notes "scroll up" lol
I played upside down hanging my head off my bed. 😂
Cannot wait until the co-op video! Loved this so much! I have so many great memories playing this game back in the day, and still play today through Clone Hero!
glad you enjoyed it, very happy to hear that! thank you
My good man the algorithm has chosen you
it would appear so!
We *NEED* a part two. This acme onto my feed and I love it!
What an awesome video, congrats Jack! I was contemplating going back and making an achievement video for a GH game too, I used to adore these games back in the day. I 5 starred all of GH3 expert back in 2010 but sadly never found anyone relatively close to Devon, England to 5 star expert co-op so this sits incomplete on my tag to this day, I'll be super jealous once you mop it up!
Yeah that makes it a really hard completion.
You still in the Devon area?
Could make it happen..
@@JForJackPlays Haha, yeah I still am, North Devon!
@@EffigyXBL I’m in north Devon, Tavistock actually. I can easily do expert but have been longing to do the co-op expert achievements for over 10 years! If you wanna get this done we can definitely arrange something if you want?
Fantastic video! You caught me off guard a few times by knowing some of the old tricks. When you were doing left flip, I was thinking "Just use a mirror", seconds later out comes the mirror lol.
I can beat him, but it took a lot of practice, and when we beat it me and my best friend beat it the same night, we still play, but on clone hero now
Took me fucking weeks.
Love these type of videos, only discovered your channel today, great content
interesting that the 750k achievement icon says 1M. it's literally impossible to get 1,000,000 points in singleplayer: the theoretical perfect score on Through the Fire and Flames is 991,934 (played by a bot on PC with uncapped framerate). 1,000,000 was probably possible at some point, but the devs had to continually reduce the difficulty of Flames during development because nobody could pass it
I 100%'s this back in 2009 and you're making me want to do it again. I miss this game so much.
This is literally the “number go up” channel with the cross over of RS and achievements. Subbed
LETS GO NEW JFORJACK
RIGHT 🎉!!!
haha thank you!
Thank you for this nostalgia trip bro 🙌🏻 great vid and great skills too
I love playing with the regular controller
Great content, glad the algorithm promoted your videos! Well worth a subscribe
thank you very much, appreciate it
I'm one of those nerds that have this 100%.
@JForJackPlays I think if you can 100% GH3 you have the skills to finish GHM on guitar with dedication. Good luck
You have my respect !
26:53 Fun Fact: On the All Nightmares Long hard chart on GH3 there is an invisible note that is impossible to hit so the FC for the song is impossible, and this is the only song that has this from what I remember.
I've seen that yeah! Very strange
I've got the high score for both hard and expert on a lot of songs on three GH arcade machines in Liverpool, so I get what you're talking about haha.
which songs are your go to?
So far I've done Stricken, Almost Easy & Lay Down. Think they're the only songs i've played solo there also haha
It’s so satisfying getting the hammer ons down on knights of cydonia, but even more satisfying when you can fc the beginning of raining blood
NO WAY THIS DOESNT BLOW UP
Gh3 is my first guitar hero and I still play it till this day and when he said “I don’t know if it’s even possible to complete expert on controller but someone out there probably has” it gave me Vietnam flashbacks because knights of Cydonia was INCREDIBLY HARD I’d just position my controller in a way where I can tap the button really fast at the time I didn’t have a guitar and on offer up they’d be going for like 50-100 dollars
Facebook Marketplace, Goodwills, and Thrift Stores should have the cheapest options of Guitar Hero and Rock Band instruments.
Man, I suck too hard at Guitar Hero for this.
Play Rock Band then if Guitar Hero is too hard.
For sure my favourite channel at the moment! Loving the videos, I hope your channel blows up!
Wow thank you so much!
Means a lot to read messages like that so I appreciate it. Got lots more on the go & planned!
@@JForJackPlays happy to hear there's more on the way!! Don't forget me when you hit 1 mil subs in a year's time 😂
Been playing guitar for 2 years and can play everlong in my sleep.
Two simple requirements:
1. have a drum kit good enough to even work well with two pedals.
2. be basically a professional drummer who can play double bass on a slayer song.
That game does have ridiculous achievements. The raining blood & play with me guitar achievements are crazy too
Boy
Man, it really sucks that TH-cam doesn't let you play the music.
I really wish I could still play this. I still have aps3 and guitar and the games, all I'm missing is the friggin dongle, this video really made me wanna pick it back up
TH-cam can allow the music to be played, just be aware of the copyright of the songs that could block the video.
Thank you very much.
Yeah this game is such a fun one to play co op with friends.
Which achievements were you missing?
@@JForJackPlays Was missing a lot of the ranked online and the 5-starring every song on co-op achievements. You could only get the co-op one through local play and this was an online friend who I didn't know IRL.
Very impressed. I love this game. The achievement icons are a nice touch 👌
One of the greats from the 360 generation that's for sure!
answering your question in 14:15.. I finished GH3 on expert using a controller.. and Knights of Cydonia was so hard!!
I took the controller with my left hand.. and when the spamming notes begins, I used my right hand, middle finger and index finger swaping to fast! and press the start button when the new notes begin.. like
green spaming > middle and index finger swaping fast (L2) > when the green ends, I pressed start
and swap my fingers to the red button (L1), return the music and middle and index finger swaping fast on L1..
and I did it all the music and this is how I beat the Matt Bellamy in GH3 in the controller UASUHSAUHUSA
Iv been rinsing your content since I found your channel recently. Really enjoy your videos man. You've hit a perfect little niche in my brain. Commentary, challenge and edits are great.
Appreciate the kind words very much.
Glad you enjoy them!
Got lots more planned.. lots more painful ones too haha
One that I got back then that I believe you can't get anymore is the "Meet your maker" achievement
I’m so drunk and kept seeing this on my recommended thank you goat 😅
awesome video man, i hope to come back to this game someday once i find a guitar that isn’t broken
eBay, Amazon, Facebook Marketplace, garage sales, goodwills, or thrift stores are you best bets to get the plastic guitars again.
Another great vid! Careful of those blisters!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pro tip, if you have to fast strum on controller as long as its like yellow blue or orange, you can hold say blue and tap green and red to help strum faster, me and my lottle bro use to be gods at the controller, if its green or red you cant do it though sadly
You're so underrated, glad this showed up in my recommended, this right here is good content
That means a lot! Thank you and glad you liked it
So glad to see your skills in action again 😎
Thank you very much!
I love this! Achievement hunting is something I love watching, and guitar hero 3?? My dream combo! Sub instantly
Man I've not played Guitar Hero since World Tour. Good times. Great video!
I'd recommend downloading it on PC and giving it a go
World Tour is one I didn't play tooo much. Think i'm going to have to check it out again soon..
and thank you very much! glad you liked it
14:04 Controller player here: I was able to do *most* of Expert with a ps2 control.
Brilliant video. Absolutely love the honesty regarding the controller achievement lmao
Just had the itch to play this again. What difficult achievements! Holy😮
For sure!
Such a great game
This is AMAZING! I've been playing GH3 since it first came out, but I never got to use the actual guitar. I always played with the console controller.
Never beat TTFAF on Expert, congrats.
This was a very nostalgic video to me. Don't know how or why I got recommended this but I'm not complaining :)
glad to hear it!
Me, a controller player back in PS2 and now a Gamepad Mode player in Clone Hero hearing about his difficulty using a controller, made me chuckle a bit.
Knowing that there's a trick and practicing it to not tire out your hands using the controller where you can just hold all the buttons except one when doing a multi-note strum session and use your fastest finger in the set of notes to do the strums (for example, you have a red and blue strum combo, you can hold the red, and then strum it with blue)
Idk if you can do this in GH3 though, but you can always strum solo notes with a note in lower position than the note you're currently strumming (for example, you can hold orange and then strum it with yellow which is my fastest finger, doesn't work for multi notes, use the one above instead.)
Oh, for the PS2 games, you can also use the up and down dpad buttons to do strums iirc, that's one of the first things i found when i'm a kid back in GH2, you can't do this in Clone Hero.
You could just use All Taps then use Right Analog for strums purposes, then Left Analog as your, right, whammy
License transfer was clutch back than. My friends and i all used to do it so we could get each other's games.
im ready to see the co op achieves! truly enjoyed this, it brings back memories of the grind!
Dude this is just awesome to see!
As a Clone hero player i really wanna point out how difficult playing GH3 on console is compared to playing Clone Hero and you would definitely "look" better and feel like you ARE better if you tested your skills out in that game :) Not being capped on framerate along with all the other QoL changes truly makes for a more spammy experience :b
With that said, keep it up champ.
Love how calm you are all the way through this on the webcam, I'd lose my shit if I got even half of these achievements.
Really great video. Used to be obsessed with this game, but played on the ps2 so never was able to achievement hunt. Awesome job.
Glad you enjoyed it, appreciate the kind words!
I played GH1 on ps2! All the rest on 360
@@JForJackPlays Don’t forget GH80s on PS2. No other release for that game.
Very impressive! One of my all time favorite games on the 360, makes me want to go and try to do it myself lol, congrats!
I got GH3 the night it dropped due to winning a GH contest in my local GameStop, and I only just this year got all the achievements. That Big Ol Pile of Wins one took forever, and the 750k on TTFAF was no joke either. Welcome to the club homie B) lol
wow nice work on 750k on ttfaf!
I borrowed my friends copy and release and ended up getting my own a bit later
thank you!
This is friggin awesome, a Rock Band completion would be really cool
This video was great brought back a lot of memories for me. I’m one of the ones that finished this game 1000G and it took soooooo much time!! When I was first learning the game I remember expert being really rough. If I attempted this again I think the only song that would give me issues would be raining blood! My lord that was so rough to five star!
Seeing how many buttons you gotta hit on some of these really makes it impressive, good video btw.
Thank you for watching! Glad you liked it
Felt like such an accomplishment in life getting 100% completion on this game :D
i did it 9 years ago, Good times.
You're a much better guitar hero player than me but your performance on The Flood section is pretty close to what I was able to achieve. Just a mindless cascade of fingers
Is there anyone else who HAS to open the achievement and read the description even though you purposefully hunted for it for hours?
Seeing that old school menu just feels good
Its so refreshing seeing a fellow left handed guitar hero player crush these achievements!
This was one set of achievements I got and I never, ever, ever, EVER want to try to complete again, so I definitely salute you. Meanwhile, I've been sitting with one achievement left in GH: Metallica since that game came out, and that really gets on my nerves. One of these days, I'm gonna finish it.
as someone who still plays this game a lot i love videos like this, amazin work :D
It even teaches people that never played a guitar in their life.
mad props for playing without hyperspeed
I didn't have a guitar for the 360 growing up so I earned that controller achievement that hard way (no pun intended)
This is the first video of urs I'm watching and I'm hooked. You make rly good content and I hope u do the co-op trophies
Thank you, that means a lot!
Yes I definitely will, I'm currently working on recording a few games. The rest of GH3 included!
Pointing a mirror at the tv is EXACTLY what I did to get the lefty achievement too
Some times it just has to be done
One of my most played games as a kid on his Wii. This series shaped my music taste into my teens
Discovered so many great bands/songs from the Guitar hero series!
