      Honestly reminds me of the scam in Minder with the list of horses. Phone up the number, all get given any high price in the race, someone will win and keep subscribing the other suckers have already lost at the first hurdle(pun intended). But Arthur (or Tom in this case) doesn’t care as they’ve already been paid(winners paid a small commission).

      It seems fair to me to give tips in the big races of the day. The market is better able to absorb likely investments. Don't forget about all the other tipsters are giving tips in the said big races, including their naps sometimes.
      It would be interesting to know of his success rate if he could cherry-pick all and any races. If he did this, it could lead to a price collapse in lesser grade or small field races. Hey ho.

    The number one problem in gambling is gambling sites will not give you the option of self excluding from slot machines/casino alone. Most people will not have a problem sports or horse betting but could be wiped out by slots. Its such an easy thing for them to implement and a discussion I’ve had with them for about 15 years but it is so sinister that they won’t. They are 2 completely separate vices, one is infinitely more controllable than the other

    The big feature races are always going to be the ones that are more popular, that's what people want. He gives good advice and his views of whatever race he does, you can check his win/loss at any time, and you have the choice to follow him or not.
    He is not putting up horses because he knows they are going to lose, so what's the problem. The interview was honest and open, wasn't trying to cover anything up.
    The criticism should be with the bookies taking away the option to have a bet as easy on Tom's tips. They used to revert to the prices printed in the racing post over night for a ten/fifteen minute period in the mornings .
    One of the top bookies stopped doing this at one point but soon went back to the policy, but over a period of months they all stopped this practice.

  • @andrewafshar4988
    @andrewafshar4988 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Wonder if the bookies know these tipsters (Tom segal, Hugh Taylor, upping the ante etc) selections before they are posted to public so they are servilely “under” on the the price and the price advertised is rarely or never even available in the first place. Then post there results in the prices that were never there🤦🏻‍♂️ HUGE SWINDLE lol. Great video!

Tom was on ITK for the Dublin racing festival and him and Paul Kealy recommended conflated in the Irish gold cup at 50/1, which I jumped on, by the morning couldn’t get anything better than 20s, was ridiculous. 30 years ago someone explained PW to me. In those days it was hard to get all the prices the night before and PW was just picking out errors. So four books have something at 10/3 7/2 and one has it at 5. You put it up at 5. In those days the shops would lay early prices to customers up to 10.15 (15 minute window) to 10 or 25 pounds. It’s not massively clever but people would generally get a bet. There weren’t as many races priced up early. Now prices are so fluid no one gets the price.

    • @CaanBerryProTrader
      @CaanBerryProTrader  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lots of tipsters behave like that. I pointed out that most of HT's tips were actually arbs if you could get the price even... my god the abuse I got for it. Hilarious given those surrounding HT say things like 'dirty arbers' and all that.

    • @deeklan9794
      @deeklan9794 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've notice that myself following one Tipster for a while. He had a fairly large subscribed following. 9/10 the Horse would shorten by a few points, then would often drift back out to the original advised price on opening board prices. I said to my brother, if you got on the price at the right time, they were all just easy back and lays...
      I think the same case could be made for any other Tipster with a large following.. They would certainly shorten the price initially everywhere just from the shear amount going on to each horse. More the natural process of it all, and people just then taking advantage of the obvious price swing each time..
      We saw a lot of Bookies online stop offering best odds the evening before. In turn they all eventually stopped. Before these price swings were massive on tipped horses.. Not saying its the main reason they stopped offering it, but it definitely gave them a better buffer with their prices. The Tipster I initially spoke about stopped giving his information the night before the racing as a result, and the prices then began moving so quick in the morning upon release of the information. I didn't do it myself, but it would have been much more difficult to back and lay with a smaller window of opportunity. Like I said, most would eventually drift back out anyway...
      Just for context, the Tipster I speak of is not affiliated with any Bookie.. Your usually either on one side or the other. He's definitely on the other side to them...

As an aside - can I just say - I have meet Richard Hoiles - he is a top professional and a real gentleman - so my own personal opinion is I don't think you should have included him in this video - apart from that issue - you have done another good video !

      Sure, nothing personal to any of these people. But when you think about it, they have to be brought up from time to time because if you don't it's exactly what the firms want and the open loop continues. Always liked Richards commentary but was trying to outline the overall rebuttal is lame "I mentioned it once so I'm clean" kinda thing ya know.

    Great video Caan,
    You will get negative comments for two main reasons
    1) people just don't understand how betting works and 2) people don't want to understand as they don't want an excuse to stop their betting habits. By having to think about this they will realise how foolish they have been (exactly the same with football index)
    The more videos you put out, the more people will begin to learn.
    I myself have a bet with the bookies occasionally (usually to take an offer :) but I go into knowing it's a one off fun bet and there is no chance I could make money that way in the long term
    Keep up the quality content

    Great videos Caan that highlight the differences in the representation of the betting companies and the reality. Single wallet for customers is a sensible , collective solution . No I didn't, I just re-watched it to make sure again, intially you said "thinks women only work in..." which I certainly did not. I said "the media, racing post, pricewise, higher like the young girl" in order to get their customer demographics attention. It's certainly not the "only" reason, but if you look at the industry as a whole, it's hard not to say it's no a reason at all. Just take a look at the pretty girls used by Coral or William Hill or on other channels. It's not at all mysoginistic or a red flag, its merely a statement of truth. Another point that you and these other accounts that are so desperate to de-rail this video keep saying is "journalist" which is also untrue. Journalists report, from the industry media all we get is bookie PR that is the direct opposite of the truth, which is of course the purpose of the video. You're being as bad as them in trying to twist what's been said, or, are these first time commenting accounts affiilated to them? Looks like it certainly could be.

      So true! Tom has been completely transparent with how it works. If someone doesn’t see Pricewise for what it is then they are very naive.
      Pricewise is meant to be fun and that’s exactly what Tom wants it to be. The only people who are shocked by this are people who just blindly follow Pricewise regardless hoping to make a fortune for no work. Those people need to be realistic.
      Of course with a huge following Pricewise will get occasions where a punter writes in saying he won £60k from it. But we also don’t know how much was staked. We also can’t be surprised or angry at the Racing Post advertising when Pricewise does well or a punter has success with it. They are a business too!
      Pricewise, Tom Segal and the Racing Post is great.

    Depends .. racing post is a very old publication which long since separated ties from its original journalistic model. It’s owned (as are most sports sites) by large digital marketing and data collection companies. That’s a fair enough model. I don’t think people are necessarily that confused by what it’s all about. I’d rather have the sport as it is than no sport at all. Without bookmaker revenue there would be no future for the racing Industry. I’d prefer to be able to get a bet on and not be shafted on prices but I’ll take the exchange as good enough and be happy with that,

    i am glad this channel exists ; watched a few videos . The standard of research does undermine the points you are trying to make. The races he is given will be the ones priced up when the copy is written. We all have complaints about betting firms but surely one isnt failing to price up every race 36 hours before the off. You would also need to consider the margin point ...which if you think about it is also wrong.The televised handicaps that form the bulk of the choice are often (due to extra place terms and the like) the least strong from a margin point of view., its the races he doesnt consider where the percentage per runner is at its worst. Now it would be interesting to ask why he seldom selects ew with extra place races?.. that said Paul Kealy does .. The value available now to recreational punters is excellent. The amount of information available is excellent . Hills price up handicaps 48 hours in advance on every meeting. Bet £3.65 go up at 4pm the previous day on all races. Yes you cant get 1000s on but you can get three figures which is surely fair enough .Its not all good , not all bad nor is everything Q anon bullocjks

      @CaanBerryProTrader  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bizzare comment, Harry. Do you work at the RP or something? These points are very weak at best. To address them one-by-one, there's no defence for doing anything other than serving paying customers first. By letting bookies pick the races it's the opposite. The margin point is fine, the bookies are not forced to offer promotional concessions like extra places, to say that is a reason is very weak. It's like them complaining about people using free bets, nobody made them, it's their choice. If it's bad for business, they shouldn't do it. Having an overwhelming amount of information isn't excellent IMO, unless it's good and relevant information - not bad info out of date/price. I assure you that you cannot get 3 figures on with those firms unless it's a badly -EV account, see proof of it on the channel.
      Your overall comment here reads like the RP is giving away value and helping the end user, for which they would lose affiliate rev-share on their monthly portal (maybe that's another video to do). We all know that's not the RP's angle, if they cared about consumers, they wouldn't be publishing FOBT's are good articles or putting positive spin on restrictions and ignoring other important points like racing should be seperated from casino games (something the bookies don't want).

    This is bordering on conspiracy theory stuff to be honest - joining dots and drawing wild conclusions. It has been known for years and years that Pricewise races are chosen in advance and given to Tom to pick from. Not sure that is the scandal you think it is - it’s also very much not the reason most people sign up for members club. As for the other stuff, making videos to promote people sign up to members club is just part of their marketing strategy. It’s a fairly common business model. Definitely not a swindle. If I was racing post and you were accusing them of scamming their customers (which they clearly aren’t but you seem to suggest you’ve uncovered some massive conspiracy here which is just a straight forward business model), I would be sending you a solicitors letter fairly promptly.

    Jeez. Someone got a bee in his bonnet!! Caan, you clearly have a passion or I should say dislike for bookies and the lack of value but I cant for the life of me take that one interview with Tom Segal as proof that the Racing Post is in cahoots with them!! Of course they have to bend over and be nice - their main source of income is from Ad Revenue. I too was surprised when Tom says ' I dont choose the races....." .but actually the 'Pricewise' races are always going to be the big Saturday handicaps - and im sure its what punters are looking for. I subscribe to Members Club for one reason - the form and the replays. I also take an interest in the bloodstock database but that's an aside. For a real Racing Fan I think Members Club is essential. I dont and ever have taken an interest in following tipsters. Do any 'real' racing fan do that? Surely the whole point is try and find the winners yourself? To say that Racing Post as selling tips is nonsense frankly. Doesn't even cross my mind. The constant Cheltenham preview shows (home many????) pisses me off much more. Swindle? Twaddle more like!

    Couple of key things missed to link their close relationship:
    The Racing Post supply a betting display guide to all the Bookmakers, and have a copy of their main paper in each of those shops.
    And anyone remember the old pricewise tips and the 15 minute Gaurentee??
    I don't see the racing post supporting the one wallet idea, or speaking much about other things like this. Most of these looming restrictions threaten the High Street Shops, and look set to put the final nail in the coffin for them. No way they support the threat to their main line of supply...

In the end all matched bettors or value bettors/arbers will, I suppose, take the profits from the new customer offers and either seed some other venture or try trading. I also think the bookies will lose a lot of potential customers if they don't give away at least some value. What do you think? Btw, thanks again for all the brilliant content 👍

    With the scale they have, isn't it easy money for those involved with Price wise or other big tipping services to simply lump on a horse, know the price will lower once the tip is published and the masses lump on, then lay at the lower price to lock in profits?
    Seems to be the same with any tipping service that they look great on the face of it at decent prices, but in reality noone could ever have gotten on at the higher price and therefore noone but the bookie and tipster will make money from it (accepting I've only ever looked at a small number of free tips - may well be wrong and some paid sites could offer genuine value)

If you bet because of tips, unless it's inside info, you can't harp about losing without putting the effort in. I will spend hours on each race at Cheltenham, especially the handicaps, and only after I have my selected picked, will I check what the tipsters say, just in case they mention a negative that I have missed. You have the same info the tipsters use to form opinions, so study and make your own mind up.

It's an industry-wide thing, to draw a comparison, if you were buying a car, the bloke selling it might be a nice chap and you could read about people who have had cars like it but it woudln't change the fact he's selling it to you at a ridiculous price to make a fat profit for himself and his paymasters. Isn't Maddy a contributing journalist on Racing Post already? Anyone who "pays for tips" is misguided, the best betting advice I ever had was "pick your own losers". The value in the market these days is absolutely awful but most punters who follow Pricewise are weekend ITV punters who are unlikely to be a problem. The Racing Post is tied in with many bookmakers and you have to take that into account when considering any advice they offer. As McCririck used to say "shop around and find the value (which is scarce these days). I don't subscribe to the Post and I am a small stakes punter who makes his own choices but takes in as much information as possible to do so. The Post social media content is as much about entertainment for me than anything else.

    Interesting video but hardly a revelation that tipsters, bookmakers and press are interlinked. Betting has alwaysbeen about 2 key words , value and control. Use your own knowledge, if the bet doesn't represent value then don't bet it, this goes for a 1/2 shot sames as it does for a 20/1. And have some control, don't bet for the sake of it, bet only when your experience and knowledge tells you is value. I follow Tom Segal but its difficult to get value on his tips given his profile now,so it would be stupid to bet him blind. Bookies can draw people in with big headlines , eye catching but poor value promos and special "enhanced price" bets that still don't represent value.Exercise control, use your head and there is money to be won from the bookies....so many don't and that's where the profit lies.

      To find the most the fastest, just have to look at the most profitable platforms like RP. Today there was an article in there saying that restrictions are nonsense and its all BS. I mean have a day off lol.

    Lots of really good points here Caan and completely on board with it being an extremely floored and bookmaker favouring landscape but the narrative in your video surrounding the female presenter is completely irrelevant.

      If you use the word "narrative", no more needs to be said and of course Caan is spot on with his comment.

      Not really a narative was it, merely a fleeting point about how the industry behaves. Lots of outlets do it.
