This kind of thing upsets me, because I am hoping to move to Japan after my schooling, and I don't want to go there and have Japanese people look at me at say "oh look -- another gaijin. Probably going to be an arrogant jerk!", and I think this kind of stuff gives foreigners in Japan a bad name.
I completely agree with everything you said in this video.

+Phoenyx 787 When you meet a foreigner in big city Japan who cares little about how well they speak Japanese, normally it is someone with a very high skill set/experience,a valuable person who is making very big money and has enough staff to translate for them with a mere phone call.Often they have a driver on call as well. You people who are sensitive about your language ability are either bored or lacking in social skills.

I always wonder who these mythical "gaijin hunter" people are? Usually when I go near Japanese people it is like the "gaijin repulsion machine", they move away from me or freak out. Oh wait there was that old senile guy one time who talked to me in English.

Usually you shouldn't post your earnings, so I'd say keep it between you and your sponsor.
Great reaction vlog dude, you've tackled this in a very mature light and it's a lot different from your other opinion vlurgs. You've brought up some great points and examples (Also, thanks for explaining what a gaijin hunter is!), Japan is very new to the ideas of foreigners and I think because the rest of the world is so multicultural now, we kind of take it for granted. I admit, that I have been pissed at times and been like "get over it already, I'm a foreigner" but I do remind myself that Japanese people (At least for the most part) aren't being outwardly racists, it's more of a curiosity and innocent ignorance.
But yah, some good points dude, keep up with this real talk stuff, it is well good.
I'm happy to say I've never watched that dudes vlogs because he's just doing it for views (Which he's getting).

honestly I think the problem is the description of a Gaijin Hunter meaning when people hear that a gaijin hunter "USE" people for english that's where the issue I think stems from so what that does is make people automatically put up walls cause now they're on guard cause they think well this person doesn't like me but they call me a friend but use me for their own benefit I don't want to be used by a fake ass person, see that could be what's going through there head and to tell you the truth when I first heard the word I just thought oh they like outsiders but when I heard that they do it to get free lessons off of people I thought wow so they play outsiders like fools just for there personal gain see where i'm going with this but luckily I try not to automatically think people are out to trick me and use me so now i'm ok with it to a extent

I think Ryan's point is that it wears you out after 16 years. I am myself expat since 26 years, and I have NEVER made an experience with people wanting to practice German with me, just because I am German. Maybe that would be funny two or three times, but when it happens 3 or 4 times per week to you for 16 years....yes, I think it wears you down. And frankly, this "foreigner hunting" syndrome in Japan (but also China etc) it's a bit sick, don't you think?

    • @joshuaramey7375
      @joshuaramey7375 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Alexander Lindner I would imagine it gets tiring after a while, but if it's been happening for 16 years you would think he'd just accept it as a fact of life and move on.

    • @alexanderlindner5808
      @alexanderlindner5808 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Instead of typing a long reply myself I will just quote a post from another expat, from a year ago or so. Here it is:
"All I can say is that this is one of the main reasons why I threw away
my permanent residency and left Japan after living there for nearly a
decade (which is the BEST choice I have ever made in my life). There are
Japanese that stay at busy train stations all day long who run to every
single foreigner they see. Now try to tell me that there is nothing
      wrong with that!
It is easy for many of you to say this and that without any experience
in Japan, having spent your lives in East Bumblefuck, Armpit County. I
will make this crystal: You, as a gaijin, will be constantly bombarded
by this shit on a daily basis and it will get to you. Contrary to what
you would like to believe, they do not have noble intentions. You are
looked at as a language opportunity, nothing more. They do not consider
you a spiritual being. You are a slave that somehow ended up in Japan to
constantly serve the superior race with EOD (Engrrrrrrrrrish On
      Demand).
It is easily tested by replying in Japanese. In many cases, they will
remove you from their "mental register" by simply walking away, acting
as if they had never made contact with you. This is because most are
absolutely disgusted with the fact that a foreigner is not living up to
their expectations. The Japanese put everything into little boxes, and
if you don't fit inside one of their boxes, ur fucked.
The recommendation that あっちゃん(w) gave about telling them that you are a
Spanish speaker in an attempt to get them to leave you alone doesn't
always help (some will start speaking Spanish!). I would usually tell
them that I was a native speaker in Romanian (my rolling "r" usually
scared them away) but that I was ready to speak Japanese with them. They
still walked away or continued to attempt to speak Engrrrrrrish. Then
you have other nutbags there that are obsessed by a particular language,
such as French or Russian, and get pissed off when you can't speak with
them in their language of choice. I had a guy keep yelling at me in
Russian despite having told him several times in Japanese that I wasn't
Russian. But the best way to get rid of the "gaijin hunters" is to sing
the ABCs at the top of your lungs...works every time.
Remember that they are not thinking logically. They are trying to force
you to fit that little box which they created in their mind, no matter
what. I've had a view get violent with me."

+Alexander Lindner Imagine my surprise finding you on yet another reaction video re Ryan. You do realize that Ryans vid only makes him money if you don't drive away all of his subs. Ryan made an outrageously negative vid to garner himself extra views. Ps Ryans point was to outrage the internet so he could increase views. Ryan seems like a pretty honest guy... If you think I'm wrong ask him... He loving the attention cause these reaction vids are bringing him views. Sorry if you thought he was legit ..... He's just trying to make a buck.

This video was a response to a Ryan Boundless video where he's said the phrase "gaijin hunter" in regards to someone who approached him asking about speaking english....thats literally it lol he got so upset at someone for no reason, and labeled that person 'gaijin hunter' lol

    • @yopparaiiii
      @yopparaiiii 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Ah. So Ryan came up with the term. This never had happened to me possible because I am of an Asian complex. But if it did, I wouldn't think it is bad. It's your choice to shine them off or proceed. 2nd class citizens? I think a handful of us aren't even a Japan citizens.

10:56, it was your second day in japan and two people came to you and you figured out that they were from near to osaka because they were speaking kansai-ben. Man you are smart. I lived in kobe for 8 years and first 4 years i did not even know that kansai people spoke different japanese.
You know your two day thing does not add up to me. Either you lived in japan before for some time and knew japanese, then only you can figure out differences between japanese of different area.

  • @hiroshihasegawa8453

In the first place, why does he(Ryan) think Japanese often speak to him in English to practice English? Generally Japanese, especially the elders, have a habitual practice to have an empty conversation about weather and temperature etc even with themselves. It's just to show no hostility with him/her. And why they often speak to foreigners in English is that they tend to go along with the opponent's mindset and that they, especially the elders, think most of westerner-looking foreigners are American! Ryan still hasn't understood such a basic thing about Japanese society despite the fact that he lives in Japan for 16 years!!!

  • @elleimagine3711

I don't think you are old enough to his stage of making a plan of the rest of your life yet.
MY GUESS is that Ryan fell in love with that Japanese girl, and he felt he should be settling down and living in Japan for the rest of his life with her.
BUT, the reality crushed his dream. For him, there is no way that living in a country that somebody comes up to you and starts the conversation like "where are you from". It is like in the States, you meet a black guy and asked him the same question. He will give you a nice punch.
My prediction is Ryan will break up with Rie very soon, move to a far place. and try to live a new life in his way. JUST MY GUESS!

Hey dude, when you feel the need to put down others who have done nothing wrong to you, it smacks of insecurity and that's exactly how you come across. Now, working as a lowly paid English teacher in Japan automatically renders you financially insecure but why be emotionally insecure too? Get a life and quit worrying about Ryan's.

YOU DON´T UNDERSTOOD SHIT ABOUT LIVING IN ANOTHER COUNTRY.THE PADRON IS: IF WE ARE AT JAPAN WE SPEAK JAPANESE(IF THE PERSON KNOW)...PS:DO YOU KNOW IF YOU GO TO OTHER COUNTRY YOU HAVE TO RESPECT THEIR CULTURE...LANGUAGE IS PART OF THE CULTURE.IF RYAN PROVES HE SPEAK JAPANESE AND THE GUY STILL TALK BACK IN ENGLISH OF COURSE RYAN IS IN THE REASON TO ASK: WHY THE HELL ARE YOU SPEAKING ENGLISH TO ME IF WE ARE IN JAPAN AND I KNOW JAPANESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THAT GUY WAS DEMINING RYAN!

I am brazilian...if Ryan came to Brazil and if he knew portuguese there is no reason to me to speak in english with him(the padron is:if you speak the language of the country than that´s the language of the conversation...should be obvious...and that is why Ryan got upset with the guy...of course he was trying to practice english with him and that is DEMINING)

I dont really think its demeaning. japanese is a tough language to learn. If you saw That Japanese Man Yuta's video on the amount of foreigners that speak Japanese here, its a surprisingly low amount of foreigners. That's why Japanese people try to use English sometimes.

    • @MiliakBR
