Before Jeopardy, it was High Rollers. RIP Alex Trebek 1940-2020 You are the best legend of the game show host. Til we meet again...... and thank you 😥 But the big fro and mustache is the signature of a legendary host..... Respectfully, once again, thank you very much and good night 🌙✨💎🖤❤️🤍💙🇺🇸🎆🍺✨
And now, the game of high stakes! Where every decision is a gamble and every move can be your last, High Rollers! And here's the man with the action, Alex Trebek!
And now, a game of high stakes where every decision is a gamble and every move can be your last, High Rollers! And here is the man with the action, Alex Trebek.
This show and Classic Concentration deserve a comeback. If there is a revival for High Rollers on NBC Primetime, it should use the 1987-1988 set (which has the real Big Numbers from 1974-1976) but with the giant 1978-1980 logo sign. And it should also use the 1987-1988 theme opening but this theme (1974-1976 and 1978-1980) for the closing.
One of the classiest game show theme songs ever...nice Las Vegas show ambiance. Loved the opening with Kenny Williams' intro: "This is the game of high stakes...when every answer is a gamble...and any roll can be your last...'High Rollers'...and now here is the man with the action, Alex Trebek!" Loved the on-screen High Rollers logo when the word "High" floated upwards and each of the letters in "Rollers" rolled off the screen!
Happy 75 to Alex Trebek, the man that has hosted many Game Shows like The Wizard of Odds, High Rollers, Double Dare, Pitfall, Battlestars/The NEW Battlestars, Classic Concentration, To Tell the Truth and of course, JEOPARDY! as well as the spin-off Super JEOPARDY! God Bless You Mr. Trebek and Keep on Quizzin'
I'll never forget: I was watching High Rollers because I was home sick from school, and a contestant had to make a simple choice of what numbers to blank out and she made a block headed decision. Well, Alex Trebek was visibly OBVIOUSLY irritated at her stupidity. It was hilarious. At that point, he became my favorite game show MC. Of course, when I learned that he would be hosting a revived Jeopardy!, I was sooo happy. No one could have done it better than old Alex.
"HIGH ROLLERS" premiere on NBC's Daytime from July 1,1974 to June 11,1976 with host Alex Trebek. Trebek was also the host again for NBC Daytime from April 24,1978 until June 20,1980. HIGH ROLLERS was NBC's most successful game show when the network had a slew of great game shows from the mid-1970's to the early-1980's and what a perfect game show host...the great Alex Trebek!!!
Did you know that in “The Price Is Right”, “Dice Game” is almost a watered down version of “High Rollers”. They took the same idea, and used it for a pricing game, but the board is completely different.
It’s a game of high stakes… where every decision is a gamble… and every move could be your last! HIGH ROLLERS! And here’s the man with the action, Alex Trebek! Kenneth A Huang 8/15/2022
Love this theme and this show! I say that Alex Trebek was the better host of "High Rollers". I personally like Wink Martindale also but his hosting style seemed rather dry on his version of "High Rollers" during the 1987-1988 season!
Actually, Let's Make A Deal was originally produced by Hatos-Hall, which DID use some High Rollers musical cues on LMAD when they were doing Las Vegas shows from 1976-77. I wonder how Stefan and Monty got the permission from Merrill Heatter and Bob Quigley to use HR musical cues on LMAD. Perhaps, there was a connection: Monty Hall was a host on Heatter-Quigley's very FIRST game show, Video Village, so, perhaps Merrill and Bob allowed Stefan and Monty to use HR cues on LMAD.
sez: Loved that show!!! To J-Finn -- yep; you said the intro right. And whoever said that this show needs to come back... who YOU tellin', right? ;) I'd like to see that! That would be awesome!
And now, a game of high stakes! Where every decision is a gamble and every move can be your last! High Rollers! And here's the man with the action, Alex Trebek!
For the curious, here's the color scheme used for the original 1974-76 Big Numbers: 1 & 8 - green-blue 2 & 9 - hot magenta 3 - royal blue 4 & 7 - yellow-green 5 & 6 - medium blue I don't remember the scheme for the maingame board; it appears that 4, 5, and 8 were the same colors; whereas the 9 was yellow. One other thing: the font used for the numbers on the 1974-76 version was derived from Mattel's Tuff Stuff 123's Blocks. For the 1978-80 version, at least 13 different fonts were used for the maingame numbers; at least 5 were used for the Big Numbers.
Can't tell you how I know this, but for the main game board, 1 and 8 were an aqua blue, 2, 4, 7, and 9 were yellow, 3 was a purplish-blue, and 5 and 6 were both a bright blue.
Makes some of us feel old to realize Alex will be 70 on Thursday. I believe he'll become only the second host to helm a daily game show past the age of 70, the other of course being Bob Barker.

The rather obvious question that will be raised, in the event "High Rollers" IS actually revived for television, is the identity of "The Man With The Action." Or that of, as the case may be in that instance, "The WOMAN With The Action." In other words, who will actually HOST the production.
Tribute to great host Alex Trebek 1940-2020. Rest in peace.
High Rollers, Jeopardy!, and Classic Concentration were Alex Trebek's best shows. RIP Alex.

The soaps are being cut down one by one... time for HIGH ROLLERS to indeed make a comeback!
It shoulda BEEN back!
This show and Classic Concentration deserve a comeback.

I'd like to see any syndicated HR show with Elaine Stewart as the dice roller!
Here is the Man with all the Action Alex Trebek.
What a shot... snake eyes... I get an insurance marker. Good morning ladies and gentlemen and welcome once again to High Rollers.
Alex looks like Gabe Kaplan.
My all-time favorite game-show theme!!

Alex, you've come a loooooong way.

Thanks for the clarification. It's been awhile since I last saw the show.
Roll them doubles!
HIGH ROLLERS was produced by the same company that brought you such classic game shows as LET'S MAKE A DEAL and THE HOLLYWOOD SQUARES.
Actually, Let's Make A Deal was originally produced by Hatos-Hall, which DID use some High Rollers musical cues on LMAD when they were doing Las Vegas shows from 1976-77. @@toddwacha5108 Because Stan Worth the composer of some of the themes between HS and LMAD probably had the control of distribution rights.
Seven-aah!!!

This and the theme to the original Hollywood Squares would be the perfect songs for a jazz band.
This theme, IMO, is way better than Wink Martindale's, though, Wink's is also good itself.
RIP Alex Trebek
At 1:16... great sax transition.

HIGGGH ROLLERS!!! And now here's the man with the action, Alex Trebek.
Stan Worth did some great music composition. This sounds like Hoyt Curtin and his Hanna-Barbara themes, notably Jonny Quest.
Oh......my.....God......
LMAD is done by Hatos-Hall, not Heatter-Quigley.
Music by Stan Worth.
@kirbygene
You really ought to watch the game show hosts week of Jim Perry's Card Sharks. Alex was on there in all his colors from this era
No one is worried about that version- THIS one was better
@gamshwfan If they ever revive this game show, they should do it in Vegas.
Love High Rollers Excellent Class Show
I thought it was a game of high stakes. Where every decision was a gamble, and every move can be your last?
Classic And Original!! A Brillinat 6!! "High Rollers" would be a more suitable program over some useless reality television program. Any Questions?
The concept of High Rollers always seemed kinda dicey to me. 😀
tirmyta I see what you did there
tirmyta very good. LOL!
Good one!
Best part, 1:30-1:48. :D
Gets real jazzy and funky right there. Love it too.
Especially the guitar solo!
InflatablePlane kplr11
The All-New Mickey Mouse Club just called!
It wants Trebek's cutout doppelganger back!
That's a funny story, especially the "visibly upset" part. Too often hosts are cookie cutter and Alex showed some real personality
