Hello I’ve rebuilt gm transmissions for a living and now disabled and watching you is like being alive again thanks for getting me out in the shop again. I have seen a few things I could have helped with to make life easier but you do good work. Thanks again
The Turbo 400 was handled very rough and rolled over Violent onto the shift lever to the ground. Seen them break before same place. Tig Welded up will be stronger than stock not cracked.
Hi Shawn, I enjoyed watching this video, thanks. Love to see more teardown videos of the turbo 400 or 4L80E. Love this weather! Congratulations on going over 5K subscribers. Ross
I never saw a cable operated modulator, but I have a weird looking one I got from a Jeep case. It had an 8 bolt pump, but what was I going to use it for? I bought several 400s from an old wrecking yard that was going out of business. I sold all the internals but one to TSR. I kept one only Chevy case, it had a real long extension housing, with Turbo 350 output shaft. I traded some parts around so I had a regular 400 short shaft and housing. If you ever run in to one of those long 350 spline output shafts, Chris at TSR knows a guy that will buy them.
Isn't that the way it goes? Everything comes apart nicely no seized or broken bolts and you feel good but then after all is apart its got an internal crack in the case...dam. Well unfortunatly ya win some, ya lose some. ughhh Growing up we used to rely on the old farmers almanac for future weather....seemed better than any weatherman lol
Hi I’ve been fallowing your videos and rebuilt a th475 for my chevelle. Trans was a 40k miles trans with no issues found upon tear down 350 3k Hughes converter Transgo 1-2 reprogram kit Rebuild went well and transmission works great But having a intermittent issue with it downshifting into 1st at a stop. Checked governor found no issues and have adjusted the modulator countless times with no change. Wondering if you could give me any advice on what to check Heard of people putting 2-3 spring coils behind the governer valve to help it return or should I be checking for another issue?
I guess I don't understand why a case of heila coils in every hole is acceptable but a welded crack on an area that does see fluid pressure or major stress is not
@@mountainsgarage I wasn't trying to be a smartalec about it i was seriously asking the question, I've asked similar questions before about repairs like welding the valve body passages on the trans and the apply piston that become ballooned an cracked
@@KarKamp I enjoy that it made me rethink the problem. During the video it had just happened, but I agree that welding it isn’t the end of the world. Thanks!
This channel is a huge help for me and my 86 k20 , thank you!

I welcome any suggestions, never stop learning!
I’ll watch these all day.
Yes sir. Awesome video thank you.

Good work
Tig Weld the inner shift shaft Boss.
They still make the cable drive modulator stuff aftermarket. Used one on a blown application recently.
Nice video .
Bummer man. That was probably the old prybar pump removal that did that.
Weld her up, she'll be fine. I wouldn't be scared of it a bit.
Rethinking it after being sad, I believe you are right!
i have the same screwdriver i'm gonna check my tool box
Shawn you are the man , got a quick question , do you have a video how to adjust the kick down on a turbo 350 ? Thanks

If the governor checks out might be a problem in the valve body or the shift kit mods.
Hey Shawn I also like the turbo 400 trans, but whats your thoughts on other gm tranys like the 350, 700r4, etc?
They all have their place. If you are just cruising then they are fine choices.
But if you don’t want it broken all the time, TH400!
I guess I don't understand why a case of heila coils in every hole is acceptable but a welded crack on an area that does see fluid pressure or major stress is not
Good point! Sounds like I need to contemplate that, Thanks!

Hello, What parts need updating to handle 1500hp, I just broke my th400 with about 1250hp and need to upgrade it to handle more power.
See what is broken, but input and main shafts for sure at that level. Probably 36 element direct drum as well.
@@mountainsgarage input shaft is what broke. I just want to put the right parts in it so it does not happen again.
