Hallo Nadine, vielen herzlichen Dank!

Awesome. more new stuff to check out! + dialogue in English .. Hello everyone and welcome to a new video. I hope you are all doing very well. Today, I will talk about the re-release of an iconic Soul R&B Blues album. Many of you often ask me which reissue or re-release I would recommend, and I always have to tell you that I don't know because I haven't heard them, so I can't give you any impressions about them. That's why I've selected two re-releases that are often mentioned in the requests I receive from you.
One was released in 2015, an unofficial re-release. I found it interesting because it has a median price on Discogs of approximately 20 euros. The other one is a recent re-release, an official one from Light in the Attic, released in 2023. Unlike the other one, it has a gatefold with an information text. They interviewed his sister, and you can find all that in the text. There's also a fancy sticker, and the vinyl is called psychedelic Soul splatter color wax.
There are some details, like how Limoses was a huge talent who deserved a hit, how he performed with Gliss Knight and worked with Jimi Hendrix, how the audio was remastered, how it's a gatefold with interviews with family and companions. It's all there on the hype sticker. Now, I want to show you this wonderful psychedelic Soul splatter color wax. It's nicely done, no question.
First, with these reissues, you have to understand one thing: it's not going to be an audiophile explosion because the source material didn't come from high-end sophisticated studios like Atlantic or Columbia Records. So, the source material wasn't great to begin with. For Limoses, for example, I've only heard the original, and you can clearly tell on the last track of the first side, 'Every Boy and Every Girl,' that he put his soul and heart into it. He sings passionately, but sound-wise, it's not going to blow you away. Nevertheless, as a blues and R&B album, it conveys the feeling very well. It's a great album, and I can only recommend it to everyone. Excuse the reflection. It's a fantastic album, but based on the source material, I reached out to Light in the Attic to ask about the source material, whether it was a needle drop or a copy from the tape.
Unfortunately, I haven't received an answer yet. So, it's all speculation for now. So, don't expect an audiophile explosion from this reissue. Keep that in mind for certain re-releases, especially from smaller labels. If it was a private press, the chances are high that you'll play it and think it's okay, while someone familiar with the original might think it's amazing. That needs to be considered for certain re-releases. For me, it's not just about the sound; the overall package matters too. The cover should resemble the original, which is something major labels often get right. Smaller labels might not keep all the artwork materials, so they might scan and restore the original cover, which I think is legitimate and acceptable.
Regarding the two re-releases I looked at, the unofficial 2015 re-release was clearly scanned, with less sharp text and colors. However, the cover art was done well. On the back, the text was retyped in a different font, but overall, it was solidly made. The Light in the Attic re-release seemed to have put a lot of effort into recreating the original artwork in Photoshop, but they also made some color adjustments that I didn't like. The contrast was increased too much, and parts of the artwork looked off. Despite these issues, the music is the main point, and I've covered all the relevant aspects.
The 2023 re-release from Light in the Attic costs between 45 and 50 euros. The packaging is decent, and the price is fair considering taxes and shipping for a US import. However, as a consumer, I expect everything to be perfect for that price. This re-release disappointed me because I found the original to be significantly better. While these re-releases are well-made, they lack the depth and dynamics of the original. If Light in the Attic used a needle drop, that might explain the difference. If anyone has more information, please let me know in the comments.
In my ranking, the original takes first place, followed by the unofficial 2015 re-release, which comes close to the original. Surprisingly, the 2023 re-release from Light in the Attic comes in last. While it's well-made, it lacks the dynamics and clarity of the other versions. If you find an original within your budget, I recommend getting it because it's an iconic album. Listening to it is a fantastic experience.
Only by listening and experiencing it yourself can you truly judge it. If you're looking for a recommendation, watch this video and check out the secondary markets for these re-releases. Light in the Attic's version is still a good album, and you won't be disappointed, but in comparison, the original stands out. That's just my personal opinion. Have a great week, stay healthy, and see you in the next video. Take care.

Not too many people know about this record however I would love for you to do an English version of this video. There was a time when I would’ve paid over $150 for this record. I know that Lee Moses was very active in the Atlanta, Georgia areaback in the late mid 70s and early 80s. Also know he passed away around about 1997.

LG
