Hey Group, Sorry for the lapse in content, from kids recovering from tonsil surgery to the passing of my grandmother... dark times. We are getting back out there though, my daughter Bre will be in some upcoming vids and The Wooded Beardsman will be here in a month to get a taste of Texas! Hope you enjoy the vid, Thank you to my Patreons for making what we do out here possible. Tell us what you think and.... Until Next Time.j
Bob Hansler As always, informative and entertaining. I have tons of yucca on my place, going to give it a try this weekend. Sorry for your loss, and I pray your eyes are improving. Look forward to learning more.
What truly impresses, Bob, is your respect and appreciation for all wildlife. Even trees. I have a lot of respect for you. Great work, man. And great videos.
I love his dog he is so obedient he has not barked the whole time I've been watching this video he's such a wonderful dog he's so beautiful I'm more into the dog that I am on the video he's so wise
My grandmother was from Mexico and I remember her making a yucca flower dish with tomatoes and onions. I couldn't remember when she harvested the flower for the dish, but you answered my question. The flower gets bitter with time so it must be a tender early harvest. It's not spring yet so I can attempt to cook the early blooms when they come out and duplicate my grandma's dish. Thank you so much.
Just a few minutes into your video I realized "This guy is one of the best survival and nature teachers". Then I remembered you, your wife, and your dog from several years ago. So glad I'm back on your site! I lost you in my many subscriptions about the time I got into quilting. My grandson got a quilt as did some friends, but I missed out on your video instruction for too long.
hey man, i watch a lot of outdoors/survival videos and yours is the first ive subbed to. It's apparent that you are very comfortable with your level of experience and dont feel like you need to show off or say things for sensationalism's sake. Everything you say is insightful and realistic. Thanks for the videos! (I dont know if this comment made sense, im a bit sleep deprived :p)
There's something so wholesome and "homey" about seeing you cook a full meal with nothing but your own knowledge and the great outdoors. Wonderful content, you've earned yourself a long term fan!
M really happy tat a TH-camr replies to ppl's comments.. so sweet of u sir .. m from India n waiting for more videos from u .. u r very much polite while explaining ,u hav a soothing voice .. I wish I wud b a part of such adventurous trips.. nice work sir ..
P.S. I also wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your calm demeanor, a LOT of TH-camrs get really excited in their videos it gets a little annoying but yours are very enjoyable! Thank you!
My recipe is from northern Mexico, take 4c of flowers, adding 1 onion and 1 tomato- both chopped. Sautee in olive oil and add 4 cloves of garlic, cumin, salt, and pepper to taste. Then add 1/2c water. Once the water is 90% gone, ready to serve. So so good!!! I really enjoy how you educate and share your enthusiasm for the outdoors!
Loved everything about this video. You are a great role model. Very intelligent and great experience person. Most important is that u should be happy for your grandmother. She’s in heaven watching over you and your family. Every day every moment is being blessed by your grandmother. Keep your head up. And good luck. Be safe. Bye.
Thank you for posting these wonderful videos! Very educational and also useful. It reminds me how much there is out there to explore and do. I have depression and anxiety, and watching your videos make me happy and calmed. Thanks for the great work and take care! Wishing your family all the very best. 💗
The first time I ate yucca blossoms, I nearly drove 50, 60 miles away to find yucca blossoms. By the time I got home and cooked the yucca I must say it was well worth the long trip! Such a delicacy!
.............Bob, you and Shauna and Huckleberry really hit a home run with this video....It goes in with your top vids ever.........Since your channel is filmed on your own ranch and/or immediate area just adds to the appeal. Really nice how you feature plants, wildlife and the very countryside that is right out your back door here in Texas......and that Bowie knife...!!! Please don't ever let that get away from you.....it is worth a video of it's own . I'm sure it has an interesting story of it's own to tell.........All this and much more goes together to make your channel the most genuine...and definitely my favorite.......Now.......with that said, please accept my condolences on your grandmother's passing......she raised a fine family and is to be praised......ATB to you and yours............
Condolences for your loss, Bob. You guys are in our prayers. Huck's a wise old soul, isn't he? I like him a lot. ("You wanna try a yucca blossom, Huck?" "[You must be joking.]") :)
Yucca blossoms yucky they taste horrible Raw I don't know how they taste cooked but I taste a whole flower off the tree it is so bitter it's horrible I could not get that taste off my tongue for nothing I don't see how he ate that whole flower I had one the tree is actually right across the street from my house and a Hispanic man comes by every time it blooms and he gets the whole Branch down and he gave me a whole one to eat and it tastes just like aloe vera plant very very bitter
You are incredible. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your grandmother and your kids tonsil surgery. I've just found your channel and love it! I was a girl in the scouts co-ed Venture Crew long ago. I deeply appreciate your practical videos that are calm too. I love your dog huckleberry! I can't wait to watch more videos. Thank you so much.
When I was young we had a family farm in South-Central Kentucky I spent my summers on. Grand Father milked about 15 Cows (by hand) as a supplement to the income (Twice a day milking got about 2 full milk cans, picked up next Morn.), in early spring the wild onions (which here is actually a type of wild Garlic), would be the first to start growing good, the Cows would get into them, and until the onions played themselves out you couldn't sell your milk for the premium price because of the strong Garlic flavor the milk had, it was then used for secondary milk products.
I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother Bob, I can relate, my heart is with you and your family during this sad time. As for your video if people do not learn anything from you then something is wrong, you are very detailed in your explanations not to mention you make me hungry and cannot wait to try the yuccas, again thank you Bob
Thanks Bob, You show us everything that many would over look. When I am hungery, cardboard would taste good. But you show us the real food. God Bless for what you do.
Sorry for your loss! Here's hoping you immortalize your grandmother with a cookbook with her recipes and some of your own. It would look charming/rustic if you did the photography yourself and plated it on your hand crafted, mesquite wood plates over your fire pit. Just started watching your channel, liking it already.
My dad grew up in San Benito Texas and he would tell me stories of my grandmother cooking the flowers from the yucca plant when he was a kid. I’ll have to try them this spring when they’re in bloom. Thanks for sharing. God Bless
Bob, i was wondering how your beautiful daughter. I used to enjoy watching you two foraging and fishing and cooking up what looked to be some great dishes. She was always by your side when you were having problems with your eyes. I hope that issue has been resolved. I love your naturalness and how you're always teaching us new skills. Love you and your wonderful family and of course Huck!!!
Well I guess I don’t have to pick up expensive bouquets from the store for my girlfriend anymore just walk up to one of these bad boys and take those flowers. Might even have a free dinner afterwards 😂
Bob, I never knew you could eat the yucca blossoms and stalk. I appreciate the knowledge and I'm looking forward to trying it. Sorry to hear about your grandmother, I share in your sorrow. As usual, I'm waiting for your next video. Keep up the good work. Best wishes for you and yours.
That is some HUGE yucca . I love yucca blooms sautéed in butter or dip them in egg and use flour or cornmeal . Yucca leaf cordage is just as strong as hemp and stronger than nettle or thistle cordage imo . The ultimate survival plant . I like that big knife and wondering who makes it . Great video with lots of information . Thank you very much . L
Sorry for your loss. Glad to see you, your Huckleberry & camera lady again. Lived around these plants my whole life. I'm going to harvest a stock to try it. Thank you!
My grandmother used to make a dish out if the Yucca plant. I understand that the flower must be used while young otherwise it will be bitter. I hadn't seen too many recipes for this dish. I really like your video, thanks
When he put the cast iron down and told the dog not yet, i can just see the dog saying "But its right there" lol. he's adorable though and the entire video was very good and informative and definitely something we need, especially now since theres millions of people depending on cities and society to make lives easier (Coming from a city girl lol) These videos are something thats definitely needed right now
Anyone that can help them out would be great too. All of us need help at times. I would like to see him and his family get all the things they need for their homestead.
This was the first video of Bob's that I've seen where Huck actually ate the food Bob offered him lol. Picky eater that one, but I absolutely love him.
Hi Bob. Sorry to hear of the family's loss and the hard times y'all going thru. It's was nice to finally meet you and Huck in person at the Mesquite, Tx. Convection Cntr. Self Reliance Expo last weekend, I posted a short vid of you on their Google site. Sorry I kept my distance from your wife, pretty women just scare me. Looking forward to seeing you next year at the Expo. God bless, take care and thanks for being you.
Huck is a great straight man, glad to see he finally ate something you cooked :) Sorry about life for you lately Bob, but congrats on breaking 100,000 subs!
I can't believe am watching this for the first time. Where am from this type of yucca was introduced as an ornamental plant around 40 years ago and now are everywhere. We have a gigantic one in my garden that's around 7 meters high and I'll definitely try what you've shown us here when the lower branches flower.
I have a Yucca plant at work and I take it home every time I can... I'm Mexican and we cook it with eggs .. I didn't know you can bake the stems... I'm gonna do it this year for sure. Thanks Bob
Love the video Bob. Having recently moved permanently to New Mexico, Alamogordo, I found thousands of Yucca/Spanish Daggers around our land & very nearby mountain foothills. I have enjoyed the blossoms many times. Funny thing is, a few local contractors who were building my home saw me harvesting & enjoying the blossoms, thinking I was a crazy Yank. They claim they had never heard of eating the blossoms. I whipped up a big batch of them as you prepared along with some Chorizo. They loved it and still think I am a crazy Yank. Thanks for the info. These have become a regular spring vegetable favorite.
Great work on the mesquite spatula. A little sanding, oil and it will be ready to sell. Beautiful! 😉With lots of love 💝 from sunny ☀Arizona 🌵, 73/50f today. Supposed to reach 90f on Saturday. Crazy!
I notice you use your knife for just about everything . I love my knife so I protect it . I have been carrying a small hatchet/hawk with my knife or I carry a Sierra saw . These Yucca videos are gold . There are so many uses for it . Thanks Man !
The size of your Yucca is amazing. Here in NW Indiana, our yucca only get about 4 feet tall, and the stalks about 3/4" thick. I've known the flowers were edible, but didn't know the stalks were. I'll try some next season.
In Mexico we call it izote flower and we eat it with egg and stew and many other ways we love your channel and the way you show people how to use and cook the food that Mother Nature provides us
We have yucca here in Florida and I have never known this, thanks Bob. So cool to see you out doing what you love. I'm gonna eat me some yucca this spring!
Truly sorry for the loss of your grandmother.🙏 This video has a ton of valuable content. I especially enjoyed the cast iron skillet hacks. Your videos rival any on cable tv. Kudos to the Hanslers! Have you ever thought of having giveaway drawings on Patreon for some of your handmade props, like the spatula and tongs? Gfs
Hope your daughter get well soon and my deep condolence for your grand ma.. Thanks for share this video. I think this flower its like a prebiotic because rich of fiber and good for health. And i just wanna add the information, Yucca Schidigera extract also used in feed industry , to be added in food cat to reduce amoniac smell in cat urine.
I live down near the Woodlands, we have a lot of wild onion and crows poisen as well, I do wish I could get my hands on some yucca down here though. Thanks again for the video, I really enjoyed it!
Slammed that "llike" button! Great to see you again. I hope things lighten up for your. Awesome video. Looking forward to Wooded Beardsman coming by and the honey harvest video.
Huck is so smart just like his owner. i love ur channel thank you for teaching us. I wish my daughter would find a man like u she's not even looking ugh. lol
You can't go wrong with a good old bowie knife. If you live in Texas it is understood this should be part of your standard equipment. I like how Bob demonstrates how practical this tool is.
Hi my name is Tanya and if you want to find a knife like that go to big 5 they carry all sorts of knives BB guns hiking supplies anything you need fishing poles it's called Big 5 I want to go fishing so I'm going to go and buy me a fishing pole and a knife
So glad to see you and Huck! I am terribly sorry to hear of your loss. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m learning and showing my own grand kids the ways of nature and trying to help them help themselves someday. I know how much I adore my babies and they me and my heart aches for you. I’m sure your grandmother was very proud of you and all you’ve done. If you were my grandson I would be. Thanks for bringing us along. The food this time looked wayyyy better than grubs! Hahaha I was rooting for Huck since there was butter involved, he’s a smart cookie I seen. I’m starting to trust his instincts as much as yours, at least where grubs are concerned! Hahahahaha Again, TFS. You’re in my prayers. God Bless. ~Lisa

Bob Hansler glad that you're back... sorry for the loss of family... I very happy to hear your voice again!
Bob Hansler could you please tell me what type of knife you are using I wanted to buy one for myself
I like how ur dog always looks sleepy😂
Otaku Demon getting oldddddd
@@Jholmomo792 Also sunlight in his eyes, camera is probably compensating, but it's bright as hell in Texas.
Got sick of eating flowers maybe🌸🌸🌼💮🌸🌷

Cuz he be chillin

He barked at the coyotes.
@@richardbyrd7047 I think that was just really to protect his owner even though coyotes usually don't attack human that often.
Look at the dogs expression at 24:53
He look sleepy
and he never runs away and just sits there

Oh my God Huck actually ate something this must’ve been really good

sorry to hear about your grandma. I hope better days are ahead. I'm glad to see you post another outstanding video. thank you.
I am so glad your are back. It is good to see your eyes healed!:)
you guys just realize this man made a spatula from scratch. He literally chopped off a branch and carved it. It's harder than it looks.😓😓😓
@Tom Foster who knows maybe he did xD
It's not that difficult, you just need to practice.
I agree with Nick tant
Not tryna downgrade Bob Hansler but its not hard. Maybe if you went outside sometimes...
Arakz dam who hurt you 🤭 stop being so toxic No one cares if its easy for you or not

What you demo is very very important teaching. Thank you.
Yea buddy, I have foraged all of my life, and you have showed me way passed that, keep it coming, I learn and so does a lot of other people!
The sautéed blossoms seam like they might be good with some of those wild peppers you’ve shown and some crawfish.
The flowers are good filler in many of our meals. Still a month or so before the chilis are out sgain.
Mmm, pure lava with a slight hint of sautee flavor.
its nice to have a survival channel for the deserts of the us we here in new mexico and texas need it

Clever on that waxed jute. Great video on wild food. Best
We have yucca here in Florida and I have never known this, thanks Bob. So cool to see you out doing what you love. I'm gonna eat me some yucca this spring!
Okay, last multiple comment. Great video as always.
Loss of family is always hard especially your mentors. God bless you and your family.
Glad you enjoyed the vid. Thank you for the condolences.
Hands down my favorite survival vids, thanks Bob
Truly sorry for the loss of your grandmother.🙏 This video has a ton of valuable content. I especially enjoyed the cast iron skillet hacks. Your videos rival any on cable tv. Kudos to the Hanslers! Have you ever thought of having giveaway drawings on Patreon for some of your handmade props, like the spatula and tongs? Gfs
You call that South Texas >_> lol good to have you back, Bob, you have my condolences, and Salutations from the RGV
Sorry for your loss. You are very impressive with your wood skills.
Wow, I have never seen crows poisen get that big. Great video
It's pretty healthy out here. Stuff grows everywhere.
I live down near the Woodlands, we have a lot of wild onion and crows poisen as well, I do wish I could get my hands on some yucca down here though. Thanks again for the video, I really enjoyed it!
That's a cool trick with the jute twine. Gonna have to try that. Thanks

Where did you get your knife? Seems like a fine investment. It’s lasted through everything you put it through. 😂
Family heirloom. Original Bowie by whitby. 1950s
Bob Hansler Thank you, I’ll look into that name on a few websites.
You can't go wrong with a good old bowie knife. If you live in Texas it is understood this should be part of your standard equipment. I like how Bob demonstrates how practical this tool is.
Ever thought of carrying a small hatchet or camp Axe? They come in very handy!
Hi my name is Tanya and if you want to find a knife like that go to big 5 they carry all sorts of knives BB guns hiking supplies anything you need fishing poles it's called Big 5 I want to go fishing so I'm going to go and buy me a fishing pole and a knife
Thanks for this video. Have yucca growing in my yard didn't know what to think about it until now.
Great video Bob!
Just started watching you yesterday and subscribed!
Keep up the good work.
More to come, glad you found the channel.
Texas looks like a good culinary adventure
God Bless. ~Lisa
We ate a stock off one of our yuccas in the front yard this year and even my wife enjoyed it.
