What makes this even more interesting is the original song has NO other instruments except drums … the playback was with Justin’s parts … FYI, trumpet is his main instrument, but plays a lot of keys in Snarky Puppy …
First off, without all the music, and not being that familiar with Dua Lipa, I was surprised by how repetitive the song is, but that is what seems to sell these days. His interpretation was probably better than the real song, especially as the real song is, although perhaps a bit complex in production, still kept relatively simple. Quite interesting to watch and listen to, and I liked his positive reaction. I have seen a few reaction musicians just suddenly go play three or four chords to a song without any previous practice, but I'm sure you can do the same as you would easily recognize the basic chords/root notes by ear. Enjoyed this one, thanks!!
Thanks Guy! He’s such an incredible musician. The group he plays for Snarky Puppy is on another level. Most of thr guys went to high level music schools in Boston and Texas. I have to admit that the bass lines in Dua Lipas songs really pull me in they are so funky. She’s kinda funny and not bad to look at either. No muscle like Midori though. 😂 it was super interesting watching him decide what to play and it did not take him long to come up with amazing stuff to play. Hope you have a great Sunday!
I've never listened to the original artist to this song. I have heard Snarky Puppy before, so I know he's good. He may have improved the song for all I know. lol. Drumeo has done similar videos for drummers, one awesome recent one is "Mike Portnoy Learns Impossible Danny Carey Drum Part". Mike tries to learn Pneuma by Tool, definitely worth a watch.
I have listened to Dua Lipa and I love the bass lines in her songs. Thats the draw for me. Lots of fun to play or try to figure them out. I’ve seen a few Drumeos. They are pretty cool.
Interesting! I’ve seen this video with him 🙂 So fun and interesting to see him work with what he gets to hear! Really like the jazzy-funky-fusion vibe he gives it! I like the original song too. Cool bass as you say and a feeling-good-party-kind-of-song 😊 Did you know btw that Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers is the drummer on this song!
Hi Petra! Yes I did know Chad Snoth was the drummer. I love the Chiki Peppers. Always fun to play those bass lines. It was so cool seeing Justin figure this all out. What an incredible musician.
@@bobcieslinskiYes, it’s really a joy watching him! Another of these challenges that I highly recommend is Jordan Rudess playing to Alicia Key’s Empire State of mind. Equally mindblowing! 😊
@@bobcieslinskiAnd also - since you like Post modern jukebox I think you also would like seeing when their pianist Scott Bradlee is interpreting a song! 😊 The number of great musicians..!

That could be such a good arrangement to this song.❤
