    Oh my lord…. You’ve said it all, Bob, in this outstanding reaction, with your words and with your eyes.
    Super interesting breakdown of this Dirty Loops cover. And lucky, your students who get to dissect this tune a little bit more with your help :)
    It’s a whole masterclass indeed.
    Since it came out, I’ve been looping this, and still, every time, I hear new things.
    Love the way they, too, build in this song…
    Aron’s insane fireworks ‘solos’…..but also the way he supports throughout. I feel he’s laying the foundation for that deep, deep pocket in which Jonah and Henrik can do their thing.
    Jonah’s layered vocals and crazy harmonies are so subtle, but straight up fire - how he’s singing and playing sometimes just a semitone out, and it’s just so tasty. He plays a lot with mixing up that major and minor third, and chromatic chord progressions…
    And Henrik’s solo!!! It swings, it’s sits so beautifully, it’s so easy and has so much space, and yet he does every trick in the book, you’re right!
    I saw many of his NAAM show videos over the years, where he sits just humbly in his lil booth, and SHREDS with whoever wants to sit down with him, from funk masters to other bass and jazz greats, all day long! He’s truly a beast!!! And yet, in interviews he said that he ‘sucked at’, or wasn’t as good a jazz player, that he used to ‘fake’ jazziness, that his main interests lay elsewhere. Sure, but hey come on, -what do you call this then??! 🔥🧡🔥
    I’m just a string player and have no clue about bass playing, but musically would love to have just one tiny half percent of what he’s showing us there ;)
    But then, all three of the Dirty Loopers are 💥☠️👺👹☠️💥
    I’m super glad that you got down with that song, Bob.
    Again, thanks a ton for that reaction. It opened my eyes to this cover even more 🙏🤟🤘🤟🤘👍🤟🤘🤟🤘🙏

    Couple of things that stand out for me... 1.) Henrik's bass line at 4:48 (your time) quotes the intro to "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" in a different key... 2.) they always sprinkle in a contemporary gospel vibe into tunes like this... e.g., at 3:40 (your time) with the walking bass and the reharmonized passing chords w/ the brassy airy pad synth...

    Thanks for your reaction! 😊
    My favourite part is the bass part in the end. Played with such feeling I think!
    Ps. If you want to hear the Straitjacket version I mentioned - search ”Mendoza, Heredia & Neto - Living for the city (Live in L.A)” The chanel is Allan Murillo. They are musicians who played with a lot of well-known artist and I think they also played with Stevie Wonder. Quite a different take on the song. It’s fun to hear how many ways you can interpret and arrange a song!
    I had the opportunity to see them live several times in Stockholm at the jazz club Fashing. Great concerts! 😊
    They played as their own band but also with Michael Ruff. All American musicians.

    I may have seen them in an earlier reaction by you, but I’m certainly not familiar with them. I was never a big SW fan, but this was a cool version. For me, I thought the drums were a bit excessive, but the quality of music was great, and they had that standard isolation of each member found in jazz compositions. I assume a 6 string bass is the same as a guitar except an octave lower so it can be played similarly. I thought his voice was actually similar to SW. Nice reaction as always!

    • @bobcieslinski
      @bobcieslinski  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yeah you probably have seen them on the channel before. They are crazy good. The 6 string bass is different from an electric guitar. It adds a lower and upper string so the string names are. B, E, A, D, G, C.

    • @guygourley2411
      @guygourley2411 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@bobcieslinski Didn't know that about the bass. Thanks!

    • @bobcieslinski
      @bobcieslinski  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You don’t see many 6 string basses in a lot of the music we see and here either.

    • @fiddlestix3025
      @fiddlestix3025 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hey Guy, also check out this particular six string bass which Henrik is playing here. It has some weird, non-linear frets called True Temperament Frets which, Henrik says, help him play better in tune, especially when going up into the higher registers. Not his invention, but this one was custom made for him.
      And yeah, since they don’t have a guitarist in this band he has to play some pretty unconventional stuff on his bass ☺️🤘

    • @guygourley2411
      @guygourley2411 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ I seen these tried on a standard electric guitar. It obviously would take some time to become accustomed to them. The guy trying them wasn’t completely convinced but I guess that was expected. I know some bass players have some frets slanted, similar concept to be more in tune. Of course fretless is an option but a bass guitar has a long neck so I would think playing fast could be an issue. Thanks for the info, always interesting stuff out there. :)

    Dirty Loops are FUN! What other drummer would play such a solo without a build up and all the spotlight directed towards them, like a king in his thrown in the middle of the stage. "I solo when I want!" And then the emo basist playing the jazzsolo of the century on his bass...
