nice to see this finally come together. your first video way back when definitely opened my mind to the options aside from a vintage deckel or a modern knockoff
I appreciate you taking the time to video your journey. I have a need for end mill and side cutter regrind. I also have the desire to re apply my Brown and Sharpe center bench. I have been looking at Cuttermasters JXT design, and I feel confident I could build a similar grinder motor head unit. The air bearing unit on the opposing axis is also doable, as there are a few companies already selling that item. The fully indexable grinder head eliminates the cutter holder that is common on tool grinders.
Schochum! I would add an a short arm with a magnifier light, so you can get a closeup of the grinding action. You'll be surprised the difference it makes.
Way to go, I am making similar and just took my dimensions from a local deckel clone machine, having a rigid base of granite is good, It also makes aligning the elements of the machine easy, I just bonded everything to the base with engineering adhesive and will bolt if necessary.
Hi Jesse.....about the same time you videoed No, 1 I started a build as well having bought the tool swing mechanism on Ebay..........it's about 3/4 finished as I build slowly and although it's a bit different to your design eventually It'll get finished. One thing I have been noting from other grinder operators and that is the grinding dust id highly abrasive tungsten carbide and not recommended to breathe in the particles so be warned to have some vacuum method for dust extraction. I'm not using the Deckel type collets and have an ER32 chuck with a plain shank that I will add a front taper bush to allow it to fit in the work head......this is for milling cutters so a separate tool holder will be made to hold lathe tools in a square type of holder.
From other similar videos. My take is the manufacturers of the swivelly bit are selling off seconds or 'B' grade stock. That isn't good enough to send out on their finished machines. I like the stone plinth. Might have to have a mooch around the local boneyard when it gets dark. 👻
For a stone base (just a suggestion) I went to a workshop where they cut granite work-tops for kitchens, asked in the shop and was given free access to their off-cuts skip (‘dumpster’ in US I believe). Helped myself to two good-sized lumps of nice flat granite f.o.c. Les in UK 🇬🇧

Interesting idea didn’t know you could buy the arm so cheaply 😀
There are a few video,s on that adjustable cutter holder. Thay seem to be crudely built, but with patience can be successfully used.

Looks very close to a Quorn grinder
Would you do it again or just buy one of the "universal" tool grinders?
I would do it again, it works well and really wasn't all that hard to do.
