Flood Stage: Kayak camping the Myakka River

- join me on one of my best overnight kayak camping trips that I have done. I was expecting it to be scary and miserable but was treated to an easy river, beautiful scenery and surprisingly few bugs or other inconveniences. I did see a few alligators, had to seek shelter from the rain and did a stealth camp at a private dock, but the river flowed swiftly, the kayak handled nicely, and I had a great time.
It was a wonderful trip from the upper Myakka Lake, down the Myakka River and finally hauling out at Snook Haven boat launch ( 20 miles downriver ). I will definitely be visiting and doing this run again to experience this Jurassic park -esque part of Florida in its full natural state! It truly was an amazing adventure, and I hope you enjoy this video as I take you along with me. :)
A dead Hobie cat, noooooo. I used to have a Hobie 16 so I have a real soft spot for beach cats, especially Hobies. Casey, I would be sh**ing my pants if gators were bumping my kayak. You are brave. Another great adventure and video thanks for bringing us along.
Lol, we will have to do a trip together sometime and get you comfortable around those wild beasts :). They do freak me out when they bump me but It's more of a surprise "jump scare" than actual fear.
The flooding and having to find the way down stream adds a whole new aspect to the trip. Can't imagine all those gators concentrated back into the original river channel - would get crowded!
I'm looking forward to doing it again and seeing all the alligators concentrated back into the river banks. Should be a whole new experience
WOw! What a cool area to kayak! Thanks for sharing! Karen & Shannon WOY
Thanks for watching and I'll check out your TH-cam channel as well :)
Another great video. Seeing that boardwalk reminded me of all the hikes we went on. One thing I love about Florida are the boardwalks and the Florida clouds. Looks like a lot of good camping spots on this trip.
It WAS a pretty cool spot with the boardwalks. If I was rich, I wouldn't mind a spot in a community like that. I remember doing hikes on the boardwalks as a kid and probably why I appreciated that spot the way I did :)
@@sailingslowmotion that's what it reminded me of too...our family hiking trips
Your video's are getting better and better! I can't wait until the next one on a Compac 19. I think I am going to launch close to where you ended and go to my area closer to El Jobean bridge.
Thank you so much! I really did have a great time making this one :). If you get on the river soon, you will probably make record time with flow as fast as it is. When I pulled out at Snook Haven I watched a guy put in and head upstream (headed to I-75) and could barely make headway against the current.
The Trip in the Compac 19 is going to awesome, I just hope the weather holds out for us. There will be a couple more kayak trips before then too :). Thanks again for your support
This was a great video. Thanks for sharing. New subscriber here too btw. Be safe out there
