#Audi #q4 #etron
Just bought one in October. I'm selling my rough-riding Tesla Model Y. The Audi just seems better constructed. It is quieter and has a much better ride quality. I know I'll miss the Tesla Supercharger system, but the rough ride and interior noise was just too irritating. Good job, Audi. Unfortunately the Q4 will NOT be eligible for any US rebates after January 1st.
No tax credit plus 10% markup at my dealer = DOA.
Exactly! Besides, in 2-3 years there will be more EVs entering the market with tax credit available for buyers.
The ID.4’s interior ergonomics is the main reason we didn’t buy it a year and a half ago. Shame these weren’t out then, we likely would have gone with this over the Mach-E. ..although we DO love our Mach-E..
Oh, and a big “no way” on the sport back from us…why the hell would I buy an “SUV” that won’t fit people in the back?!?
To lord over sedans and coupes because everyone's insecure in some way.
I’ve had my Q4 E-Tron 40 (rwd) for 11 months and almost 12k miles. We chose this over the equivalent ID4 (and Skoda Enyaq) as we preferred the physical HVAC controls, normal window switches and the interior design all of which we felt were better. Interior space is great, the seats on our S-Line model (different to those in the video) are fantastic and I still think it’s a great looking car. Performance is fine but not rapid, 0-60 in 8 secs puts it on a par with our old BMW 520d.
Rear drum brakes haven’t been an issue- if you’re semi competent then you can use regen to do the majority of your braking, and if you need to break hard the rear drums and regen are both working on the rear wheels🤔 In Scottish winters the real work range is about 230 miles, and in summer the most I’ve managed is over 290 miles (actually driven, not estimated).
I would agree about the piano black- there’s no need to have so much of it! The interior of mine looks like an episode of CSI with fingerprints everywhere 😮
Pricing in Scotland meant that the monthly cost was virtually identical to the ID4 so it was an easy decision. If I had been able to afford the 50 Quattro version that would have been a harder decision as the price is very close to Tesla Model Y money and I’m not sure I’d have gone for the Audi.
Thank you so much for the review. I'm based in Canada so very interested on the effect the cold weather has on range.
I would go with neither, I chose the q5 phev because we go on cross country trips every year. We are able to drive on electricity exclusively day to day but not have to worry about charging on long trips. We average 32 miles per charge and is perfect for going to grocery store or dropping kids off at school etc.
We also like the interior of q5 better than the q4. The air suspension option is also very nice to have. Would buy again.
If they put the dash of the Q4 in the Q5 it would be better.
Nice job Tommy, I think it's worth the extra price over the ID4. The smooth quiet ride, a functional sunroof and the regen paddles. Plus they are selling here at MSRP. That's why I bought one! Absolutely love it and it's perfectly adequate for us!
How is it so difficult for VWAG? Volume knob. Hard HVAC / steering wheel buttons. No piano black. Jesus.
Audi all the way, huge difference especially with S-line.
Wish they'd put the wood trim where the piano black is.
Thank you for this review. For what I need, the Q4 a little small, the Q8 a little too big. 😂 I do wish the Q6 was here already. I will probably lease the MB EQE SUV 4MATIC and wait and see how the Q6 will be. Thanks again.
Tommy you’re in my home town! That’s where Oceanside high graduation is, or used to be! Can’t see paying such a high markup for a dressed up ID.4 and did the base MSRP go up? I thought this started in the somewhat lower 40s? Inflation is killing the idea of an EV
The rear drums don't bother me at all. They are substantially lighter and more efficient than discs. The only advantage that disc brakes have over drums is fade resistance. In the case of this design the rear brakes do so little of the braking that rear brake fade is not an issue. I'm sure it will hurt some people's pride to have drums on the back, but there is no logical reason to be concerned about it.
If the reason why they use drum brakes is because you don't use brakes enough with regen. This car doesn't stop on regen right? You said that the regen is not as strong as other EVs?
The car uses regen, but it doesn’t slow you to a complete stop so it’s not 100% one pedal driving. It slows you to a crawl just like an ICE with an auto would.
It is an awesome ev. I test drove it. The only downside of this ev is the battery isn't as great as Model Y. The range is 240 miles per charge with the 50 quattro. Still debating whether go with q4 or the new Chevy Blazer EV rs that can go 320 miles per charge.
Well done Tommy.
Does this car have a heat pump for winter driving?
Yes on quattro models, no on the rwd
The sport back looks a little... Toyota Corolla-ish. 😬 I think Audi, VW and every other manufacturer will ditch the fake grills soon, except maybe BMW and Lexus, because their designers think people love their grills (they're wrong). The seats look they belong in a budget car. I'd expect to see more bolstering in a luxury class vehicle. Good Luck to them though, I hope everybody has a successful EV line-up.
This is what the ID4 should have been. Pricing seems high, might check them out used in a few years.
You mentioned pricing seems high, that s why there is the "ID 4"
Non-Sportback version makes more sense. Just wish it had more range.
Why not just have all the stereo controls on the back of the steering wheel? It's so convenient to not have to search for these controls while you're driving. At least have knobs so you can feel for them instead of having to look for them. I don't get that.
How do they justify the big price difference between the two?? Is the panoroof available on the sportback?
We ordered one for here in Colorado.
Federal incentives are NOT aimed at luxury SUVs in that folks making less than combined $300k/year are not the target buyer. Maybe families making just under that but for the most part Audi shoppers are well past that annual amount is my guess.
It’s very nice. Worth $57k? Not enough info yet. Can it do better than 3.0 miles per kWh?
My 2017 A3 eTron PHEV is a better vehicle.
When the manufacturer can get away from planned obsolescence, I could be interested. In the meantime, C’mon Audi, do a 3G to 4G upgrade on my A3 eTron. How difficult is customer retention?
Their model is you ditch your current car and upgrade every couple years. Support for older cars is not to be expected.
Great video mate
Q4 most definitely looks better, but I'd pass on both.
Totally lost me at rear drum brakes, not ever buying a vehicle with rear drums - non-negotiable
ever looked at industrial equipment??
agree seems antique but to be fair: easier maintenance, more efficient for EV given dont touch, and less likely to seize in non-use case.
@@mattbrew11 you don’t drive industrial equipment at 70 mph on the roads. I had a retaining spring break causing a drum brake to lock up. Unpleasant experience + we aren’t talking industrial equipment
@@halsnyder296 any braking system can fail that is entirely irrelevant
Seems strange to me. Must be that drums are cheaper. With the volumes of disc systems on other cars I would think easy and cheap to use the setup off a volume car like the Jetta. Also less parts on a disc brake setup.
Did you guys fire Max? He’s doing videos for Out of Spec reviews now.
maybe he went somewhere hes happier.
Let's hope
Are they "cool"? No. But for Audi enthusiasts, this is a step in the right direction for options when the ICE counterparts are failing over and over again. ;)
Hey Tommy !! I think your old Mercedes is better than both Audi's. Nice products of course.
Very nice
1000% Sportback 😍
Not for the BIG price difference
Oceanside!
Do you think it's worth another $5,000 mark-up in CA? The 2023 models have no good choice for wheels? SAD!
Why you don't comment how cheap the finish is? I've being into one, in Europe. The dash, door, knee lots of hard scratchy plastic. It's definitely not fitting a Audi premium badge.
All rivals are the same. Quality is good enough. In addition the dash is not hard plastic.
@@tkt557 if you just look at the door, back door. It's made to last. But not the best among competition
This is the quality with this price range. If you go one price tier up is the q8 etron, which it is coming soon.
Thanks!
Front looks the same to a Mach E
👍👍👍 the car !
Rear drum brakes?? 1981, we meet again!
I’m in Oceanside! Can I get an autograph????
Its a dolled up ID4. Same advantages and disadvantages as that EV.
Me gusta el Audi para Jorgito
The Sport back is silly and it doesn't even have roof rails. That design cut into rear seat headroom and defeats the purpose of buying an SUV. Sure it has 4 switches for the windows but now the question becomes, do the rear windows go all the way down?
Anyway, I really like the exterior of the standard car (save the stamped name into the bumper), but too bad the interior looks like a sea of cheap gray injection molded plastics.
Its also unfortunately it does not meet the minimum range requirements of 300 miles to be of interest to me. Teslas get way more than that, but they also cost more.
Well almost no rear window goes ALL the way down.
Planing on both me and wife
I really don’t like the background music
I think the VW ID range is unusable. The ergonomics are terrible and I wonder how they ever got into production. The e-trons look much better, but they still feel much less ergonomic than the comparable Mercedes-Benz offerings. Tesla just ruined ergonomics for the entire industry. I don't get it.
Just drive Tesla 😂😂😂
its not sedan/coupe enough for me
Affordable luxury is an oxymoron...
Had my mind made up on my next car and then it all changed 3 minutes in. Drum brakes look terrible and cheap. Sorry Audi just missed this sale.
can the “sport back” trend die already?? 🙄🤢
Hahaha. Another EV that you can’t get w/o an ADM and months of waiting. No tax credit either.
