September 17th, 2024, and the #UnionPacific Big Boy #4014 is running from Texarkana to Dallas, Texas. The #Big Boy has been totally restored and is a beauty to behold! The Big Boy is in the process of touring the Eastern portion of the UP system. In this video it is running beside Hwy 80 from Big Sandy to Dallas, Texas, where it will be on display to Union Pacific employees on Wednesday.
Our plan was to get to Big Sandy by 11:00 am for it's 1:00 arrival... But soon we learned that a freight train running in front of the Big Boy had had a mechanical issue and was running late! Big Sandy was in gridlock with railfans everywhere! So we adapted and took our video where there was opportunity. With Big Boy not arriving until 5:50 pm from Gilmer, our effort would be challenged by Our chase with the Sun!
Enjoy the live steam action, runbys and a small piece of history. Thanks to the Union Pacific RR for supporting the operation of steam engines, and allowing future generations to enjoy these fine locomotives.

My co-worker amd I drove all the way from McKinney that morning to see 4014. We were just beyond the Trilight at 2:27! We were there for almost 6 hours 🤣 we both got sun burned lol
I almost saw it In Big Sandy too, but they said it broke down in Mt. Pleasant and wouldn't be there until 3. and school had to come first. Maybe someday I can get a cab ride. Never know when Big Boy will be coming through East Texas again.

The curve is not from Texarkana, it's from Gilmer, Texas, cause there are multiple towns between Texarkana and Big Sandy.

Was delayed by 18 wheeler and train crash. Should have been there at 1:00 to1:45

Jeff, A Freight train had a malfunction between Mt. Pleasant and Big Sandy. Due to the malfunction of the freight the #4014 did not arrive at Big Sandy until 5:45 pm so it was 4 hours and 45 minutes behind schedule. When it left Big Sandy it was in highball mode! Neil
It was delayed leaving Texarkana because of a freight train-vehicle collision. And then that same train had mechanical problems which required a lot of time to get figured out.
