Really? I thought he was going to go for a real cab ride between display locations or water stops. Three mph back and forth in the yard? How lame. If this had been either Robert or Graham Claytor, or even Wick Moorman, who were all fully steam-qualified engineers, they would have shown up in full work wear, with well-worn engineer's gloves, and told Ed, "I've got this", and run the train at speed between display stops. Difference between a real railroader and a bean counter as CEO. But thanks for letting the rest of us enjoy the Beast.
And unfortunately, this is why steam railroading has become almost non-existent in NM as AMTRAK (run by an executive who used to run the FAA and knows NOTHING about trains) will NOT allow the 2926 on their tracks.
OK your missing the point The fact that he came out to enjoy the program bode well When they don't act interested that's when you have issues dec 07th 1994 ring a bell
Hey, it was great! No problems that I saw and besides, you cannot be that short. I'm 5'4 and you are probably taller! "-). The problem with "The Boss" coming out for a photo op was glaring. Firstly it was to see if the $1.0+ million they put into Big Boy is worth the investment and the expense to the SHAREHOLDERS and secondly, it was to find out how the old girl WORKS! It is one thing to run a railroad company but quite another NOT to know the workings of your most important and BIGGEST non-commercial money maker. I know the guy was a brakeman way back when, but when the Engineers have to SHOW the gent how his ASSET works, it shows his decided LACK of knowledge of the company's showpiece! Great filming and many thanks!
I thought your video was fine. Just was surprised that the CEO only rode a few feet backwards and forwards. I got to see the Big Boy in Rochelle last Sunday. AWESOME!. Who is Ed? He looks like one of the engineers I talked to in Rochelle. Does the same crew always operate this train?
@@railgraphix Thanks . I did a little research and found a lot of video's of Ed talking about the steam shop and the 4014 and other stuff. So now I know who he is.
It was a display weekend not schedule to run at all. For those that can't chase it was exiting. Seeing the The CEO enjoying the engine is a good thing for the longevity of the UP steam.
What a wonderful machine to be saved from the scrap yard. Thanks to all in restoring this beautiful engine.
I love how they keep doing things to make it even better!
I hope the boss appreciates the Big Boy as much as all of us do! I have seen her up close in Manhattan, Kansas and Houston. Maybe Cheyenne someday. 🙂
He is the one that wanted these two trips this year. So far so good!
4014 sweats power standing still. What a machine.
Бесподобный паровоз😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
Chicago....July of ‘19. Absolutely awesome to stand next to....
Hope you got to see it this year out that way!
Taken on the 65th anniversary of the day the last Big Boy pulled a revenue train in 1959
But it did push a revenue train recently.
Been a year since it helped the one on Blair, NE.
cool video! Love that powerful horn!! I followed big boy from north bend to fremont Ne! New sub , keep up the great work!
Nebraska is a great place to chase!
This is the perks of owning a railroad. Getting to play with big toys.
He doesn’t own the railroad.
Jim is the CEO. shareholders own the railroad and I am sure Jim has a sizable block of stock.
Truly amazing a moment to steam power ! It doesn’t get any better than this !
Mr. Vena can well see that Union Pacific's investment is certainly the PRIDE of railroading. You just can't buy that kind of publicity.
Well you can and they did.
I love the Union Pacific steam program
The CEO certainly deserves to see what he spent all his money on.
The Big Boys are big and powerful!

@@thomasshannon2741 He’s about one of the worst things that happened to the company
We don't judge children on the way they play with their toys.
This was on a weekend it was on display in Ogden. That is why it was just a short shove back and forward. Who says he hasn't ridden elsewhere?
when the CEO takes time to check out steam then its a great thing
He seemed in great spirits!
Unpopular Opinion: manufacture new, state-of-the-art steam locomotives to replace the diesel engines.
Great vidio good looks at 4014.😊

The fact that he xame out is huge

But the boss definitely does not like his creation being called a girl
I am 5'3, so you can feel my pain. lol. It was worth holding my phone above the fence for a long time.
Как живой,он дышит😊💯💥💪👍
El Gran Big Boy,hermosa Locomotora.
QUESTION ? From a cold start how long does it take for the 4014 to be able to take off ?
Doesn’t look like he rode it too long.

ED is the steam crew boss and main engineer.

@@Dreamworld986 There is a lot on TH-cam! Gotta love what all is on there now.
Is the 1983 controlled form the cab of 4014 or does it have its own crew?
Ed controls from the cab
Think originally the diesel had a crew...
The diesel has its own engineer on it. He controls the dynamic brakes.

To me it's a waste of time just sitting there.
The stream program is there for good PR, and it was "sitting there" for a public display for the PR.
Boring video compared to others during this tour.
