@@zroger73 There was a group there at 3pm the previous day. I was there at 6:45am but that's because I was smoking meats on the Barbecue for our group. Also because of the delay, there were a lot of local folks who picked up their kids from school and dropped by to see it. One of the biggest complaints by locals was that it was not a good time for work or school schedules, but Big Boy operates on his own schedule.
Great Views Virtual Railfan, Thank You! This was like meeting Up with an old Best friend. When visiting the Pomona Fair Grounds in California were Big Boy was on display for years and now seeing this! Wow! just INCREDIBLE
After spending all morning smoking about 60 lbs of meat for the cam chatters and the NRHS group, it was a real treat to get up there where the crowd was to watch this beast roll by. What a treat this was! I just wish people were more respectful of the requests for safety. The barriers were there for a reason and people just ploughed them over. =(
So, after Big Boy did it's western run in July it was on the run again down south less than a couple months later -- seems like Ed Dickens and his team have been quite busy these past few months. I love seeing big crowds watch 4014 passing by.
I know it's never going to happen, but I'd love to see Big Boy alongside our biggest steam engine, the British Rail Standard Class 9F. I suspect that the 9F would almost look like a toy in comparison.
You would be correct. The 9F only appears to have two cylinders, the Big Boys have 4-essentially two locomotives in one. The 9F is 66 feet long, the Big Boy is 132 feet long, a difference of about 20 meters (including tenders). I cannot find info about 9F's height, but Big Boy has larger-diameter driving wheels by about 7 inches, or 180mm.
@@jovetj I think the 9F would have had the normal British loading gauge of 13ft 6 inches height and 9 ft 6 inches wide. Because of the antiquity of our system the loading gauge is the smallest of any standard gauge system. Articulated locomotives never really took off in the UK except on some narrow gauge lines (to handle tight curves).
To add context for those who don’t know, a freight train broke down in Mount Pleasant due to a failed fuel pump and it took them hours to get the train split and taken away
UP 6513 on the IMNLI, caused the train to be underpowered for the grade. They ended up doubling the run at Smith Siding just North of Gilmer. And that was after hitting a Semi in Maud and causing a delay there.
Thank you VR for a great video. Congrats on a great crowd for attending the 24 hour train watching event. You can see the damage on the left side of the anti climber in front. Typical Take a beating and keep on running great job UP!
No this run. Union Pacific maintains a Public Relations website for their Steam program, including schedules, trip maps, and even a "live" GPS tracking system. You can also sign up to receive e-mail updates from the Steam program.
I have watched Big Boy arrive in many towns, but I have never seen a place requiring law enforcement to move people away from the tracks. Really, Big Sandy? How many more tons of moving steel are needed to understand? People in other places seem to get it.
All those millions of parts working together in synchronized mechanical perfection. Steam locomotives are engineering marvels.
Nice work, VR.
Waited a couple of hours to see big steam. Those are some true railfans!
More than a couple of hours! People were there around 11am. 4014 was supposed to arrive at 1pm, but didn't show up until almost 6pm.

Worth it. Things like that certainly don't roll up every day!
I could listen to that whistle all day long🤠
That was an awesome sight seeing this steam locomotive
going through Big Sandy Texas thank you for showing it.
🚂🚃🚃🇺🇲

What a treat indeed! ❤️
This Is Awesome! Virtual Railfan
What a great crowd!
Always fun to see 4014 😃 🚂🚃🚃🚃
I'll never tire of hearing that beautiful voice...and then when the drivers get going it sounds like a heartbeat. That was SO COOL--thank you!!!
😮Big boy love Thanks VRF ❤
Three Cheers for the Largest Operating Steam Locomotive in the World, the Union Pacific Big Boy No.4014!
How very gorgeous is that, both visually and audibly. ❤

No Other Sound on Earth like the
Big Boy. Unmistakable.
I watch yesterday it was awesome
Beautiful! It looks so powerful!
This is the best thing I ever caught, 4014 in Texarkana and Big Sandy, he is now on his way to Houston fast.
@TrainMedia00 when will the Big Boy get to Phoenix, AZ? I would love to be there to see it in person for my first time :).
"She" - machines are female. 😅
If anyone in the world can brag about crowd size it's Big Boy. 😂 what a stud ❤❤
That is pure magic.
Как здорово,даже классно,паровозы в другой стране,другой вид,другие гудки
One of Americas best and greatest
What a magnificent BEAST!!!
I can imagine the Big Boy at one of our 2 Stations in Richmond VA.
Warms my heart to see the world’s largest operating steam locomotive flying the Texas flag with pride

I was at work & on one of the two trains that passed right before Big Boy.. wish I could have saw it in person
Sounds like you had a very frustrating day!
@jovetj nall it was great riding by waving at all of you guys 🖐🏾
Houston abbiamo una locomotiva!!!💪👍
I want to know more about 4014's bell. How is the striker actuated? Electronically now?
Wow! It doesn't stay very long.
❤❤❤❤❤
Hats off to UP for trying to get to Big Sandy. Can predict all the stuff that happened to make it 5 hrs late
I was there it was massive
Peep Peep Hooray!!!!!!

They should have just coupled bigboy up to the end to push it. Then maybe they would have actually worked her the way she was built for somewhat.
@@benscamihorn8065 well there was a not broken down freight in between Big Boy and the stalled freight
@benscamihorn8065 there were 2 more trains in between the IMNLI and it
@@SD40Fan_Jason no there was just one
Steam locomotives are the only man made Machine that are alive.

That wasn't a "step back in time". The world was never black and white. 😉
Norfolk & Western Class Y 2156 is no match for Union Pacific Big Boy 4014.
Will it come through Colorado at all?
