    I've looked at several of these plans and I like yours the best. I have a roof rack on my Taco for the kayak and want to mount the tube up top. I often tow a trailer up to the mountains for fishing trips.
    When I saw the $400 rod vaults for sale, I immediately thought of making one out of PVC. Rule of the internet #37: "Anything you can think of, someone has already posted a video about it".
    Thanks!

    I did something similar, but I drilled several holes in the pipe to allow the rods to dry. I've cleaned my rods and put them in the case wet and by the time I got home, the handles had molded. It's more humid where I live though. If put holes in the pipe, it allowed the rods to dry to keep them from molding. I've also used sewer line / irrigation pipe that already had holes in it.

    Y'all need to go to a specialty irrigation supply warehouse for 6 in + PVC. I like how you strapped it to the bed! I have a telescoping Plano rod tube and was just perusing to see how people secure them to their trucks. This is the best idea I've seen so far!

    Tip for cutting clean cut on drainage pipe is large cable tie pulled tight use that as a guide. Great video mate 👍

    Can’t wait to build this. I even drive a Tacoma so now I know how to even store it in my truck when on the road🤙

    Awesome!!!! I have one that my dad made about the same way for when we went to Florida!!! They work great, and if you have too many rods it does not cost $60 for another!!! I like the idea of a lock, as one of my friends got up to his camp a few hours ago to find $4,000 in fishing gear stolen!!! I was going to go up to fish with him, but I decided to go up to the allagash to fish for the 20 inch brook trout in the brooks feeding into the lakes!!!

    I like this design, I think I'll do this but I would like to mount it on a roof rack.

    Hey buddy, might want a lil bit of threadlocker on those wing nuts, they will vibrate off. Just an idea maybe they won't. I was wondering how you were gonna set that lock up, good idea!

    • @mainetroutwhisperer
      @mainetroutwhisperer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cody C didn't need thread lock. The wingnuts were scraping the plastic all the way on. By the time they got all the way in I was using pliers to turn them. Lol

    Would have been easier to get two end caps and put a handle on one to remove the lid and access rods. You can sand the outside of rod tube to make it semi loose to take off easily. Save weight too. Or you could have added padding to the screw cap and make it fit on end of rod tube. add a handle again.

      I thought so but didn't want to sound like an idiot. Mostly do salt water from shore so 8 and 10 footers or micro fishing inland and I have a Ram 1500 with the just under 6 foot bed. Hope things are going well. Trying to get a body cam to film hunting and fishing soon. Subbed

    Very nice but lock only stops the honest thief ! They’ll cut lock or cut the end of the pipe. Both in less than 10 seconds. Still a nice rod holder though to protect rods! Good job !

    Cut the back part off with hack saw. 20 to 30 seconds. Buy buy poles.

      Bill Peirce because everyone has one of those in their back pockets...
      Same could be said if I left them in my truck. Just break the window. If someone wants them that bad.. they will get them. It’s just a device to protect the rods in transport and to slow down a thief

    • @cooper2220
      @cooper2220 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah and take a risks of cutting what your stealing, if a theif wants it they will eventually get it or die trying however for those of us traveling it's nice to put them in this rather than stopping for gas and running inside, comes out to find $100s of rods missing so it's a deteriance to stealing!
