Real ones will remember that on the GameCube gameboy player, you could hook up two controllers and you would achieve the same feature completely no mods, just you gotta have the honor system of one player only gets the A button and one gets the B button. Both could control the character movements but if inputting opposite directions then the characters stop moving lol.

Why did I think that 2 player mode would mean that Luigi would move and jump independent of Mario?

Reminds me of when i played M&L for the GBA on Parsec with a homie of mine
Me and my friend played 2 player through an emulator. I was mario, he was luigi. when we played, i evened out my stats, he mainly focused on power, so when i showed him the the mush badge aa was a thing, he immediately equipped it. We beat the game and it was great to play with him
