Expecting pelters for this but I’d hardly call this wildly homophobic. He hasn’t denounced them or called for them to be burned at the stake. Simply stating that it feels wrong for the church to effectively disregard the word of god.

The Bible is not particularly clear about whether men can marry each other, though the practice obviously wasn't done in ancient times. Only in the Book of Timothy is there a reference to homosexuality that is not associated with another sin (most references to homosexual behavior involve condemnations of prostitution and incest, but one in particular in the Book of Timothy does not and the persistent equivocation of homosexual and heterosexual sin throughout the 3000 years of Biblical literature prior to Timothy and during the life of Jesus would indicate that he was just one misled Rabbi.) What is clear, in the Bible, however, is that divorce is entirely inappropriate, as of the life of Jesus, except in the instance of a group annulment. The Church of England was founded specifically for the purpose of allowing divorce, in spite of the entirety of Europe agreeing that it was unbiblical. Why oppose modernity with homosexuals but not heterosexuals? This wasn't a homophobic rant. It was a valid position to discuss, from a Biblical perspective, but I think it highlights a double standard that has been ignored for too long between homosexuals and heterosexuals. The Jesus character in the Gospels does say that all of the Old Testament law is to remain unchanged until the end of the world, though, and that includes stoning gay men to death. Christians like to pretend that the Old Testament doesn't count, but the New Testament has Jesus saying otherwise.
If everything Jesus said and did had been written down, the whole world wouldn't be able to hold all the books produced. The gospel passages we are lucky enough to have today are pieced together manuscripts from writings that have survived many centuries of torture.

You’re wrong. The c of e is dwindling in size as are two other denominations who teach liberal teaching. However, all the other denominations - the ones who teach the full Gospel - are thriving. When people turn to God for soliciting, comfort and a way out of their problems, they are choosing the churches that teach the sorts of things Calvin believes in. So according to his logic of what the bible says goes does this misogynistic bible verse also apply and does he think women should “remain silent”.
Expecting pelters for this but I’d hardly call this wildly homophobic. He hasn’t denounced them or called for them to be burned at the stake. Simply stating that it feels wrong for the church to effectively disregard the word of god.
Except scholars have pointed out that "the word of God" was systematically mistranslated and/or misinterpreted by authorities trying to legitimate their doctrine.

He is just pretending to speak for organisations he doesnt represent. He is a c*nt and entitled to the point that he pretends to speak for others. He doesnt.
The Bible is not particularly clear about whether men can marry each other, though the practice obviously wasn't done in ancient times. Only in the Book of Timothy is there a reference to homosexuality that is not associated with another sin (most references to homosexual behavior involve condemnations of prostitution and incest, but one in particular in the Book of Timothy does not and the persistent equivocation of homosexual and heterosexual sin throughout the 3000 years of Biblical literature prior to Timothy and during the life of Jesus would indicate that he was just one misled Rabbi.)
What is clear, in the Bible, however, is that divorce is entirely inappropriate, as of the life of Jesus, except in the instance of a group annulment.
@@Grim_Beard Christians also seem to pass over the bit about giving all their wealth to the poor!
@@carlpeberdy9086 Yeah, I've noticed that too. Also, turning the other cheek - especially in the USA, with the 2nd Amendment crowd.
If everything Jesus said and did had been written down, the whole world wouldn't be able to hold all the books produced.
The gospel passages we are lucky enough to have today are pieced together manuscripts from writings that have survived many centuries of torture.
How is this homophonic he only said the churches teachings.
The church's homophobic teachings
And I wouldn’t say this is homophobic, it’s just not pro-gay and I think that’s important to distinguish
The answer Calvin (which as a protestant minister you should well understand) is that the doctrine of the church has been challenged since its inception it's called human progress. Missed a trick there (with thanks to @Tony) It's also known as Protestantism 🤣
Human progress suggests we are all entitled to our own opinion.
He’s not even allowed to be ordained. He’s essentially playing dress up with religious figures.
Yet PoliticsJOE supports migration into this country from people who hold, how shall we say, even more 'conservative' views
Which is also cringe, but 2 wrongs don't make a right.
Who would that be? I can't imagine many groups more conservative that the Christian church.
As an atheist I think he has a point. WTF would anybody want to get married in a church with all that Voodoo shit they spout out every opportunity they get. BTW same rules for any other religions and thier god.
Ancient beliefs though, init? Those old world rules have no place in today's society. "When they wrote that book the earth was flat, they needed hope they needed faith."
I don't get it, personally. Why make love in any form a sin? Ridiculous.
While I completely disagree with Calvin almost entirely and find the Religious prattling to be completely ludicrous, I will absolutely defend his right to hold those beliefs.
Interestingly this video by PoliticsJOE would surely constitute discrimination against Calvin's religion which is a protected characteristic....
You think the law means you can't question someone when they talk about religion?
Who are you, Jordan Peterson?
@@apjapki No, he’s someone with an opinion that differs to yours, is that allowed Sam?…..
@@nickxcore74 Yep. He's allowed to say it and I'm allowed to say his views are stupid. Utterly backward and senseless. The only person trying to censor criticism is Jock above here who thinks it should be illegal to criticise. Please keep up with what's going on. Your stock line of argument didn't fit here at all.
@@apjapki Way to completely miss the point but then I confess that's usually a standard failing for people of the regressive left bent.
Let me spell it out for you a bit more basically, I was saying that while I disagree broadly with Calvin and especially disagree with the religious dogma I absolutely support and will defend his right to hold those views and beliefs along with his right to express them.
That is in contrast to PoliticsJOE who, through the very specific titling and framing of the video, are trying to use the tired old "ist" and "ism" arguments (related to protected characteristics) against Calvin in an attempt to silence/attack and undermine him.
I then made the point that using that same tactic I could argue that PJOE is committing the very indiscretion that they are trying to tar Calvin with.
So no Sam, I don't think the law means religion cannot be questioned, if you actually applied any IQ to my comment you would have immediately picked up on my dislike and implied criticism of those religious beliefs which, coincidentally, make your comment redundant.
@@TheHonestJock Let me spell it out to you. You shouldn't have mentioned legality ('protected characteristic') if you didn't mean it. That's on you.
Criticism is not exclusion. They are not the same thing. They are not comparable.
Please educate yourself.
What percentage of people in the UK give a toss about 'religion' in 2022?
I mean, from a Christian perspective, he's correct about everything he says here
@Don Doodat There's no agenda; this stuff is all in the Bible
@@chrisl9112 which bit of the bible, the sin of silk wearing? you cannot pick and choose sins, where is the outrage for those sins?
@@maximus8574 you're confusing ceremonial law with moral law. The Old Testament ceremonial law is no longer relevant in the New Covenant. The moral law is.
