East Broad Top - riding the “Silver Sightseer” to End-of-Track

- On September 20, 2024, the last day of the Friends of the East Broad top September Work Week, a crew headed out of the Rockhill Furnace roundhouse in the “Silver Sightseer” track car (powered by a 1972 Chevy Vega engine!) to the current end of track in order to fully spike and gauge previously laid rail. Take a ride with us as we navigate through the various stub switches in the shop complex. The “highlight” of the video is the lunchtime northbound ride from the current (as of September 20, 2024) end-of-track back to the Trolley Museum in Rockhill. This compliments my previous video showing a similar southbound ride. (NOTE: Apologies in advance for some of the audio - my iPhone was pressed against the glass of the Silver Sightseer, which caused some annoying vibrations)
If you enjoyed this video, please consider donating to the Friends of the East Broad Top, or better yet, join the Friends and come out and volunteer - it’s a great organization working towards a very worthwhile and exciting goal - bringing the East Broad Top mainline back, one stick rail at a time!!
Awesome the amount of work being done, a lot of progress since our last visit. We need to get back there soon from South Carolina ❤❤
Fabulous progress. How much faster to Pogue? I would guess about three miles, but you may have a more precise total. As I always say, railman's, please make donations to the FEBT to keep this work going!! Even a few dollars can help.
It's about 1.1 miles as the crow flies from current end-of-track to the Pogue station. Of course the Pogue trestle over Aughwick creek is in between that - needs some rehab before track can be laid across it.
@@RobertBenkovitz Many thanks. I will be making another donation tomrrow!
@@RobertBenkovitz Do you think EBT crew get the track done until the 994 (Pogue road) this year??
@@daviddion719 It's about 2500 feet to get to the 994 crossing - they should easily make that by the end of the year. I believe the end-of-year goal is to get to the Pogue trestle, which is another 1700 feet further, and includes the 994 crossing plus two crossings over the High School access roads.
@@RobertBenkovitz wow ain't thinking it's go so far thank you for the answer
“Ayo! Can I ride dis wit my EBT card??” That’s some impressive brush clearing, not one tree branch overhanging the track anywhere. Way to do the job right! Also, maybe once they complete a tunnel people will stop getting yelled at for assuming it’s abandoned.
Holy cow the progress is AMAZING ! This looks like a class one roadbed. Better get the bridge at Pogue rehabbed soon..... How can I donate $ for materials ?
Not sure if you can donate specifically for track materials - contact the Friends to see. Any donation will go for a great cause!
Great video Rob! Thank you.
My pleasure! So great to work with you and the crew. Hope to do it again very soon!
It is incredible to see the EBT beeing brought back thank you!
Totally awesome man! I never knew that the EBT had so many long stretches of straight track and like others commenting I'm amazed at the progress of the restoration.
Those old rails are starting to pick up a polish! 😂
awwwwwwwesome 🚂….
Thank you Manos... the Hands of Fate??
