      Came here to say this!! The white tile is beautiful. I like the other one, but feel like it doesn't really give enough contrast to the walls. I love your bathroom tho! So bold and fun!

      She could also do some kind of antiquing to the white, some targeted paint just on the raised edges in a subtle gold or blue, or just a different white- maybe with a metallic sheen. Just something to make it pop a little more. I think she probably likes the metallic sheen of the bronze, but it’s so dark and against the walls it’ll be cavelike rather than coffeehouse, IMO. Something with a little shine to it, something to catch the light on the white tile I think might be nice- but only on the raised edges. Also she could put the bronze tile in the pantry or some smaller (but frequently used) place for contrast.

      I like the white too. The bronze is busy and fussy, not the vibe I see evolving. The tile is going to be warm and beautiful.

    Builder here, definitely not white grout in the kitchen. Dark grey really pops with terracotta tile.😊

      Agree, white grout on floors very hard to keep clean, especially with pets. I have both light grout in kitchen as well as dark with a dark tile in another area, love the dark grout

    • @GardenStater
      @GardenStater 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      Agree 100 percent! ESPECIALLY on a floor, white grout is a big mistake. I'd go with grout to match the tiles, but really anything other than white! Tia has a dog, but even if she didn't that grout would look filthy in very short order.

    • @marthad5697
      @marthad5697 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Yes, a gray with the same value (light/darkness) as the Terra cotta will look very sharp; without causing the grout to receive the focus that you really want on the tiles themselves

    I love, love, love the darker ceiling tile, however, I think white is the way to go in the $1 house. I think the dark would work better in a larger home, and the white will be perfect in this cozy home.

    • @mswildi
      @mswildi 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +38

      I agree that the dark will make the space look smaller, however, consider that she has a straight run from the front door all the way to the kitchen. See my suggestion above. I am of the opinion (uh oh) that the darker tile will be more versatile and tie the 3 rooms together. I also like the more ornate design. But again, opinion.

      Plus the wood trim would need to be stained darker to pull everything together.

      Exactly this!! I live in a fairly large apartment with a large living room (I would guess larger than the 1$ home’s living room) and one of the first things I did when I moved in here was paint the ceiling in the living room. It had dark wood panels on the ceiling and it made the entire room dark, look way smaller than it is and just depressing tbh. I painted the ceiling white, with a color that didn’t 100% cover the wood so if you look closely you can definitely still see the character of the wood and all the lines etc. but just that one change opened up the room so so much. I only use indirect light and I love cozy, low-lit spaces too. But with the dark ceiling it felt like the ceiling was gonna cave in on me with the light low like I prefer. I would definitely go with the white tiles because the house itself isn’t huge and the bronze will make it seem and look absolutely tiny.

    Might want to rethink the white toned grout- especially in a kitchen. It will get greasy stains ground in that will be near impossible to keep clean. Consider a tone closer to the tile color that won't show dirt so much.

      The terracotta tiles will have to have a clear coat put on them after they have been laid and dried. The antique white can easily have clear applied on it too. That will stop the terracotta tiles and grout from getting stained.

    I would go with the white tiles. I was thinking that if your livingroom wall colour were to be a lighter tone than your diningroom colour, it would graduate and soften your colour flow from the front of the house through to the kitchen; however, with the chosen colour being the same darker tone in both livingroom and diningroom, I think the white tiles would provide a visual lift and lighten everything, making the space look larger and once you add your plants and decor, it will pop! :)
    Are you planning to show episodes of you moving in to the house? I think that would be so awesome to see how it turns out right to the end. I sure will miss these weekly episodes when they're finished. It has been something special to look forward to each week that I have enjoyed so much!

    Since your home is on the smaller size, I think the white ceiling tile is the way to go. You’re creating coziness already with the warmer paint colors, so you don’t want too dim or dark and the white will only enhance the overall look. It’s just precious and it will look wonderful!

      I love the look of the bathroom! I may have missed this but what is the plan for completing the window trim? You can see there's a big gap between the windows and the painted trim around them. It's clearly not finished but I would have thought that the finishing would have been done before the painting.

    White ceiling tile, definitely. I understand that a dark room based on lighting can be soothing and calming. But, a dark room based on dark ceiling tile, will result in a smaller feel - not intimate - to an already not so large room. It'll feel closed in and kind of depressing. Use lighting, not permanent decoration, to establish a feel for the room. Lighting can be adjusted, decoration not so much.
    Beyond that, you and your Dad have done a remarkable job on that $1 pile. It's going to be a wonderful place to have your life. Enjoy it!

    They both look great, the white is going to give it a cool bright feel and keep even a dark room bright. The dark one will make a dim room feel warm and cozy like you should be curled up with a cup of coffee next to a crackling fireplace. I’d go with the dark tile but make sure your kitchen is bright. Love watching your progress, can’t wait for Mellow to use her door and enjoy the lovely yard. Also love your Dad and the relationship you two have, it’s truly amazing and beautiful ❤

    I have an 1890 Victorian Style house My dining room is close to the color of yours. White is the color of my ceiling and I believe white brightens it up more. Bronze is beautiful but I think it would be too dark. If you don’t like the white after a while. You can always paint it.

      I like the bronze tone, but I think it’s really busy like you said. Everybody seems to think that the white is the best choice. But if you got the right kind of classic bronze tiles I think the aesthetic of your home would make it look really vintage and warm in that room. If you can’t find any bronze tiles that aren’t busy, I’d stick with the white

    With the "T" wall divider it makes each room a bit smaller to the eye - a bronze ceiling would amplify that and make each room appear even smaller - I think the white ceiling tile would be best to give the allusion of taller ceilings which makes the eye think the room is bigger and then your decor and lighting would be the cozy catalyst.

      I have terracotta tiles like that in my kitchen and the original grout was a lighter red orange and it now look like a dark brown. Even when I steam clean the grout it just keeps the stain. In my honest opinion, the Bronze tiling for the ceiling would create the "vibe" you're trying to achieve when it comes to a comforting, cozy, coffee fireplace hearth type aesthetic. It also adds to the warmth of that space. I can just imagine the indirect lighting you could also use. Maybe old looking lamps with great shades to create a some what glow. Beautiful. I'm sure what ever you choose will be just right for you. Your dream house creation from beginning to where you are at now, has been a real pleasure to watch. You are almost there! You Created your home. Congratulations.

      I agree with your whole comment!! If it were ME, I'd pick the darker bronze...with sunlight streaming thru windows it would create a warm glow, and on gloomy dark days or in the evening, the perfect lamps would also create that warm, dim cozy coffee shop GLOW that she described too....plus I am sooo in love with copper ceilings to begin with, so I am very biased!!! But she's got a good eye and it's looking so good so far so yes....whatever she chooses will look fabulous!!!

      She could always do a small accent wall with the dark tiles or even frame 3 of the dark tiles and place candelabras in the center of each. She could do a faux fire place and cover it with dark smaller tiles. She could cover a coffee table top with the dark tiles and place a sheet of glass over top and place multiple candles on top to give her a cozy glow. The ceiling is not the place in this home for such a huge contrast on the living room ceiling when she is not going to do the tiles all over the house. Keep it white or even paint off white. Using a paint gun is best if she paints those tiles. She will need a paint sprayer for her exterior or even the fence.

    YOU’RE SUCH A ROCKSTAR! …in my humble opinion, I think the WHITE ceiling is the way to go. I see the bronze as almost a dark dark brown which pulls my eye to the ceiling first. I’m a painter…of paintings…lol…. Here is a color concept that may help. Our eye notices contrast first… so if you want to draw attention to a design feature … like in a painting, you increase the contrast… like black and white has a very high contrast. So when you’re choosing a color, it can help to ask yourself “do I want my eye drawn to this”? An architect told me…. If you want to notice your garage doors, as you drive up to your home…. Keep them white ….. if you want to notice a beautiful front door or a lovely tree in front, paint your garage doors a similar tone to your home color. This comment has helped me so many times. 😊

    I think the white ceiling tiles look a lot better, and will keep your house light and airy. If you enjoy restaurant spaces that are dark and cozy, perhaps you could use the bronze tile in your bedroom or bathroom if that doesn’t break up the flow of the house too much. Too much darkness can be temporarily comforting but depressing over time. Restoring hardwood floors is really labor-intensive, but they are so beautiful. The reward is definitely there. With the longer dark of winter in the north country and a small cosy house, I think the white sealing would provide height to the rooms and give a light and brightness on dreary days. Lights can be dimmed for mood lighting in the evening and a pattern scarf across a lamp top to add darker colored mood lighting. That’s just me, because I find darker, cloudy winter days rather depressing and crave light and bright.

    I recommend the white ceiling tile. When your house is dark, it is difficult to make it light, but when it's bright, you can always do things to bring in that dim, cozy vibe. Curtains, furnishings, lighting, etc can give you that warm, cozy coffeehouse feeling.

    I would definitely go with the white ceiling tiles. It will make the space look bigger and brighter. I think it’s such a small cottage that the bronze will make it feel smaller and more closed in. Coffee shops look good when they are moody because they are bigger rooms so the bronze helps to make things a bit cozier. Being such a small space you want to create the feeling that the ceiling is higher so it doesn’t feel claustrophobic. I love your bathroom design and the paint goes really well with the wallpaper. 😊😊😊

      I can answer this question from our own experience my husband and I had a farmhouse 1890 and we chose the bronze ceiling and it was amazing the way that the sun came in from outside and how that gave it such a homey feel yes it was like being in a coffee shop at times but it’s hard to describe. Upstairs, we did the white tile and we have regrets because it was just too bright. I think with everything that’s going on with your living room room, including the natural finished floors, I think you should go with the bronze tile. I’m afraid that white will make you shift your focus to keep looking at the ceiling. Bronze will bring it all together. Been there done that and have no regrets over picking up the bronze ceiling for my 1890 farmhouse we were able to sell the house last yearhad a greatly increased profit and it was the bronze ceiling that really drew the buyers to purchase the property

    I think the bronze tile will give you a cozy library vibe, someplace with a winged chair, a fire place, and a cozy blanket. The white gives more of the bright and awake feeling. Like a place where you would eat breakfast and read a paper. When you make your decision think about what you will be doing in the room and how YOU want to feel when you’re in it. Think about what will give you joy because you are the one who has to live in it.

    IMO, if you are planning on staying in this house for say 7-10 years, go with the dark if that is what you are hoping people will majority say. If you are looking to move out in 3-5 years, then go with the light because the lighter ceiling will make the area look bigger. I think the darker ceilings are a more niche type of look and if that is what you like then I would definitely do that. I had darker ceilings for about 3 years after moving into my home, but now that I have painted the ceilings white, it is a game changer because of the amount of daylight that is reflected in here. Lastly, if in the end more people say dark and you are pretty excited about that, then that is probably the color you choose bc deep down it is what YOU want. If they choose white and you are disappointed or not excited about it, choose the dark. It always feels like in that last split second of choosing a prize in a hidden hand, that in that last nano second we do have a preference.

    Both ceiling tiles are beautiful, and I’m sure you would be happy with either choice. The things I would consider: 1. If you change your decor in the future, how much would the bronze ceiling limit your choices? 2. In the future, if the tiles are paintable and you wanted to paint the ceiling tiles, which would you prefer to paint?
    The bronze is beautiful, and a bold choice, and I know you’d be happy with it.
    The white is a much more flexible choice, less bold, easier to live with long term.
    Over the years my decor choices have changed a lot, so with the decades of experience I’ve accumulated, I can point out the future consequences of your choices, but can’t tell you which to pick. When making your choices, consider the future and how things might change.
    Whatever you choose, it will look amazing!

    The white tiles offer you more flexibility with being able to change your look/feel/style in the future. Think past your first 2 years living in the space. I've done a bit of reno work & have watched a lot of building recap vids & having to redo a ceiling is usually one of the most dreaded annoyances when you make a change.
    After seeing the bathroom come together & your kitchen tiles, I feel that you can easily get the feel you want with the rest of your decorations/furniture/lighting.

    I really like the white one - the darker one is too shiny & will bounce around light in too many directions - also it's a severe contrast to the lighter colors in the room. I think you can control the lighting with window treatments & mood lighting (up lighting behind plants, tables, etc.) and the contrast won't be so jarring.
    But that is my taste - I am easily overstimulated (neurodivergent) & a restful pallet is sometimes essential for me. I can always go crazy with decor that I can switch out with my moods. It's got to be your style, though.
    So glad your dad is there when you need an extra set of hands. My mom would help me out (she helped teach me), and we bounced ideas off each other. What you're doing is so fun. Watching you I get to re-live when I could still do that work. It's been quite a few years.
