It's because normally these things happens uncerimonially, while this we have to endure Videl slowly getting a beatdown, and it's worse in the manga where she even loses teeth in detailed panels.

I think you guys might have miss the point of that scene, Mr.Satan knows Videl is stronger than him and knowing she fighting a person he already beat he doesn't think she can lose. Which why when he finds out that Spopovich had not been knockout yet he just thinks Videl is not going hard on him for the fans to give them a show.
You're talking to people that cheer for a female fighter then turn around and use the excuse that the "she's a girl" like she's a fragile flower. People need to show fighters some respect and stop trying to pull out those stupid excuses. Plenty of women exist that could kick my ass left right and center, I'm not going to treat them less for their skills simply because they're a woman. Tired of that old ass mind set.
Thing is, if Goku and Vegeta aren't cheating, neither is Spopovich. That's why nobody in the show is calling him out: he really isn't breaking any of the tournament's rules.
Exactly! He isn't cheating any more than the Z Fighters, who use Ki to enhance their strength, but are knowingly fighting regular humans they outclass many times.

I'd like to think that the tournament committee amended the official rules after this tournament to forbid what Spopovich is about to do in future tournaments. It wouldn't be the first time. I remember back in OG DB, Goku used Nimbus to save himself from a ring out before he could fly, and while the committee didn't disqualify Goku for using it that time, they _did_ amend the rules to forbid using it in the future.

The beauty of the original DBZ (and to the same extent Kai) is the intensity and brutality. DBZ gets really friggin brutal at times - energy blasts and Kamehameha waves aside. This series gets bloody, and it’s amazing. Can’t wait to see you two react to the later parts of this saga. Issues aside, this part of DBZ has its moments - some of the most iconic in the series too.
@@digitaltennisshoes Not all of them, that’s a generalization. Chainsaw Man is plenty gory and intense - and has some strong themes. Same with Mushoku Tensei. You just have to find the right ones.

If Videl knew that Spopovich had been enhanced then I think she would have worked more towards that ring out. Her advantage in skill gave her the edge on him in the early fight, but she had already wasted too much energy by the time she realized something was wrong. If she had knowledge then she likely could have gotten him out of the ring, either in those early assaults or when he was stunned from having his neck was broken. I can't fault her too much because nobody expected a chump like Spopovich to suddenly have these powers.
@@AscendedXSaiyan It's arguable. Some of those attacks took him a decent amount of time to recover, so it depends if he could activate flight before touching the ground. Having his head spun around seemed to legitimate stun him for a good moment so I have doubts he could have saved himself in time, but Videl didn't capitalize because she thought she accidentally killed him.
Goku noticed first since his specialty is sensing power levels. I think it's like the guy has a regenerating health bar that is slowly climbing empower with each head he takes. Also remember that the spopovich guy got knocked up by mr. Satan in the round one previous tournament, and now he's fighting mr. Satan's daughter while roided-out on something.
[No spoilers] If the tournament goes to plan and if Videl can't find a way to beat this guy, he goes up against Gohan in Round 2 - assuming of course the stadium survives Goku vs Vegeta. So if Gohan needs to go for some revenge for his girlfriend in Round 2, you can imagine how long Spopovich would last, weird powers or not. He may have some kind of upgrade, but he isn't at Frieza level, let alone P-Cell. Gohan would make a Raditz out of him. [And yes, I've seen it, I know what happens, so no need to spoil it]

I know SS1 was x50, but can't remember what SS1=>SS2 was, but even so with a few million still in base, SS2 could kick around the androids even if he couldn't do P-Cell. She is the daughter of the guy.. everyone (except Goku and his friends) believes who saved the world from Cell, she cannot quit. Also she is not helpless and they both have equel strength. On the other hand - Unnecessary brutality.. is something else tbf. If you ask me, in this case here, Videl has the pride of a Saiyan ... and that's not good.
You haven't seen DB, but it is a theme that Size doesn't equal Strength. Goku was Goten sized for the majority of Dragonball, and always had to fight a bigger aponent.
You two will love the next few episodes remaining of the tournament it's both epic & brutal & it has one of the few moments during the Buu Saga where Gohan actually shows off his power.
It's brutal but I never felt sorry for Videl she wouldn't give up and for it she gets utterly destroyed. It was the first time things got real in anime for me not seeing the usual characters win easily and still sticks to me that everyone has a limit and she couldn't get a senzu bean mid match for it would be cheating
One of the reasons I wish TFS would carry on Abridged is this scene. While they shine most at humor, they were able to make tense scenes like these carry even more emotional weight.
I get the initial hate for Mr. Satan. But the man is the world martial arts champion he has been the entirety of dragonball z. And he became so fairly. Against normal humans Satan is the strongest of em all. So thats where all the bravado comes from. It is an act, but there is also genuine skill behind it
He isn't the World Martial Arts Champion for the entirety of Dragonball Z. At the start of Dragonball Z, Goku is still the current reigning champion having won the most recent World Martial Arts Tournament five years before at the end of Dragonball. Mr. Satan doesn't become the new champion until the 24th World Martial Arts Tournament which takes place six years later. The same year the Androids first appear.

We see later on that she still continues to fight criminals alongside The Great Saiyaman as The Great Saiyaman 2 (or The Great Saiyawoman), so her fighting spirit isn't broken at all. It's just that she's still so much weaker than the rest of the Z-Fighters that she can't really do much against real threats.

They do often change the color of blood - or remove the blood entirely - for television. There's a lot of kids that watch the show too, so the censors are there. So purple blood doesn't necessarily mean anything.

I think you're reading Mr Satan wrong here The fact that he doesn't even go to see Videl's combat or that he things she's holding up shows that he really thinks she's strong enough to one shot anybody, so the combat will be short lived, and if the combat is still on, it must be cause she doesn't want the fight to end In other words, he's so confindent in her she ignores the posibility of a fighter even standing up to her
Its not that he doesn't support videl its more he thinks Spopovich such a push over he doesn't have to go to see his daughter will win but Mr Satan doesn't know about spopovich's power up.
With Mr. Satan though, that's just how confident he is in Videl. Sure, he 'should' be there, but he also just got slapped through a brick wall half an hour prior to this. From his perspective, he's still got an actual match to prepare for later on, his *INVINCIBLE* daughter is going to be fine without him, so its probably best to just lounge around and rest up. I mean, look at how angry he got when someone just came to tell him that Videl was struggling, especially against Spopovich. Mr. Satan thinks Videl is either as strong *as* he is, or even stronger, so when she's matched up against someone that he himself had already beaten, why would she have any trouble?
Forget it, they won't understand, they're judging everyone based on the standards of Goku and Vegeta power level and partial knowledge from watching only the abridged version without the original, so OBVIOUSLY they see a character as a SINGLE defining trait - Vegeta is massively prideful, Goku is overwhelming stupid, Satan is obsessively famous, master roshi is extremely perverted, etc etc, for people who have skipped the original which took time to establish and develop their character, you think they'll understand even if you explain?
Yeah this has always been that one fight that makes everyone feel uncomfortable watching DBZ. Buu saga is filled with epic moments like this one. I wish you guys hadn't been exposed to so many spoilers from the video games and even the intro song, so you could have experienced the epicness in it's purest form like most of us did. Btw I almost feel like I'm watching DBZ as a kid again waiting a whole week for the new episode to drop 😂 Keep going this is only getting started!
We got two a week now 😜 Wednesdays and Sundays 🥳🥳 And we knew so little watching the video games that spoilers from that aren’t much of a problem other than we know who Fat Kirby is and what he looks like before he gets revealed. I haven't seen this saga's Kai version, yet. Did they get T-Square for the soundtrack? That's definitely someone playing an EWI there in the first minute of the episode.
They keep saying, "cheating" but obviously they don't literally mean cheating, come on guys lol. It's like when you were a kid and your friend, sibling, parent etc., are just DESTROYING you in something competitive. You don't understand why you're losing, and no matter what you try, you can't gain an edge. You yell cheating just to exclaim your anger. Either that or you just don't want to admit you suck.
Sorry for commenting so early but chronologically after the cell saga there is a movie where gohan is still a teen and goku to the other world. I think it is called boujack unbound
We have to remember that this is a tournament and everyone knows that. Regardless of how much you may hate Spopovich, he is fighting fair. Enhanced, sure, but the truth of the matter is that Videl is not as strong the characters with ki control. You also have to respect Videl for trying to fight despite being beatdown. Also, Hercule was not aware that Spopovich had this transformation so he believed his daughter would wake over him. It was supposed to be an easy fight for her.
There's a number of moments those of use who watched dragon ball z have been waiting for you both to see. This is one of those moments! Can't wait for you two to see the next episode!
Kinda weird to say Spopovich is dishonorable or cheating just because he has an unknown advantage. If that's the case then all of the protagonists like Goku, Vegeta and Gohan are cheating/dishonorable. They're beyond superhuman and still knowingly enter a tournament where they would potentially "fight" average humans, killing any chance those people had at winning the prize.
Spopovich is amped by magic from an outside source which is making him roid out that's cheating as in the Budokai tenkaichi rules you cannot use performance enhancers or drugs before a match. People saying this isn't cheating completely missed Akira toriyama's message and storytelling all these years and frankly it's sad. The entire point of the series is expressed by the turtle school saying. That should tell you whether or not toriyama or goku would consider spopovich cheating

(almost as long as Spopovich's neck, haha 👈👈) 5:34 I like how in Piccolo's reaction here, you can really see how like, he and Kami are back to being one person. Like, we still call him Piccolo for convenience, but really, they're now their original self again. ('Course, DBZA only touched upon their background a bit, but still :^p) Also on that note, we got the reveal that Shin is the "Supreme Kai", and there's some interesting stuff about this that this series isn't really gonna cover: I think by now you've been told that our friend King Kai is actually the "North Kai" of the cosmos, and that there's also East, West, and South Kai (

The God pyramid goes something like: - Gods - Supreme Kai (Shin) - The 4 Kai (one for each quadrant of the Universe, North Kai is the fat blue guy that trained Goku) - Planetary Gods (Kami, the good half of Piccolo, then Dende, for Earth) Then you get to DBS and it just keeps spiraling out (in perfect Shonen fashion, like DB has always done) In general, it's not so much a matter of powewr, but responsibility: Each rung in the ladder is responsible for keeping a bigger portion of the multiverse going. It does tend to come with power increases, but the main cast of the show will keep growing in power exponentially, and become the most powerful of whatever level of the multiverse you're aware of on each season/segment

Videl is probably my favorite female character in the show followed closely by (spoiler). But, only after she cut her hair. Gohan was doomed from the moment she caught wind of him.
There is a lot of "sexism" debatte about this, going on for years.. and i'm tired of it. Videl is a fighter and were able to beat Spopovich.. the "unfairness" in this fight comes from something else.. which would be a spoiler.. And believe me, in the manga.. it was even more brutal what this beast did to her.. But she was not helpless in the first place. She is a fighter with a huge level of Pride..like a saiyan. This fight is a good lesson for her. She los because of her pride.
There is one scene that’s still a ways from here I’m waiting for, it’s my favorite scene in the series or almost. A hint is it’s sort of in the opening.

She is the daughter of the guy.. everyone (except Goku and his friends) believes who saved the world from Cell, she cannot quit. Also she is not helpless and they both have equel strength. On the other hand - Unnecessary brutality.. is something else tbf.
If you ask me, in this case here, Videl has the pride of a Saiyan ... and that's not good.

You haven't seen DB, but it is a theme that Size doesn't equal Strength. Goku was Goten sized for the majority of Dragonball, and always had to fight a bigger aponent.

You two will love the next few episodes remaining of the tournament it's both epic & brutal & it has one of the few moments during the Buu Saga where Gohan actually shows off his power.
It's brutal but I never felt sorry for Videl she wouldn't give up and for it she gets utterly destroyed. It was the first time things got real in anime for me not seeing the usual characters win easily and still sticks to me that everyone has a limit and she couldn't get a senzu bean mid match for it would be cheating
One of the reasons I wish TFS would carry on Abridged is this scene. While they shine most at humor, they were able to make tense scenes like these carry even more emotional weight.

I get the initial hate for Mr. Satan. But the man is the world martial arts champion he has been the entirety of dragonball z. And he became so fairly. Against normal humans Satan is the strongest of em all. So thats where all the bravado comes from. It is an act, but there is also genuine skill behind it
He isn't the World Martial Arts Champion for the entirety of Dragonball Z. At the start of Dragonball Z, Goku is still the current reigning champion having won the most recent World Martial Arts Tournament five years before at the end of Dragonball. Mr. Satan doesn't become the new champion until the 24th World Martial Arts Tournament which takes place six years later. The same year the Androids first appear.
This fight has always been the most uncomfortable in the series, that being said, it does also show just how good a fighter Videl is.

We see later on that she still continues to fight criminals alongside The Great Saiyaman as The Great Saiyaman 2 (or The Great Saiyawoman), so her fighting spirit isn't broken at all. It's just that she's still so much weaker than the rest of the Z-Fighters that she can't really do much against real threats.

They do often change the color of blood - or remove the blood entirely - for television. There's a lot of kids that watch the show too, so the censors are there.
So purple blood doesn't necessarily mean anything.

The fact that he doesn't even go to see Videl's combat or that he things she's holding up shows that he really thinks she's strong enough to one shot anybody, so the combat will be short lived, and if the combat is still on, it must be cause she doesn't want the fight to end
In other words, he's so confindent in her she ignores the posibility of a fighter even standing up to her

With Mr. Satan though, that's just how confident he is in Videl. Sure, he 'should' be there, but he also just got slapped through a brick wall half an hour prior to this. From his perspective, he's still got an actual match to prepare for later on, his *INVINCIBLE* daughter is going to be fine without him, so its probably best to just lounge around and rest up. I mean, look at how angry he got when someone just came to tell him that Videl was struggling, especially against Spopovich. Mr. Satan thinks Videl is either as strong *as* he is, or even stronger, so when she's matched up against someone that he himself had already beaten, why would she have any trouble?
Forget it, they won't understand, they're judging everyone based on the standards of Goku and Vegeta power level and partial knowledge from watching only the abridged version without the original, so OBVIOUSLY they see a character as a SINGLE defining trait - Vegeta is massively prideful, Goku is overwhelming stupid, Satan is obsessively famous, master roshi is extremely perverted, etc etc, for people who have skipped the original which took time to establish and develop their character, you think they'll understand even if you explain?
Yeah this has always been that one fight that makes everyone feel uncomfortable watching DBZ. Buu saga is filled with epic moments like this one. I wish you guys hadn't been exposed to so many spoilers from the video games and even the intro song, so you could have experienced the epicness in it's purest form like most of us did.
Btw I almost feel like I'm watching DBZ as a kid again waiting a whole week for the new episode to drop 😂 Keep going this is only getting started!

We got two a week now 😜 Wednesdays and Sundays 🥳🥳 And we knew so little watching the video games that spoilers from that aren’t much of a problem other than we know who Fat Kirby is and what he looks like before he gets revealed. But lots do things that may have been spoilers we probably don’t remember 🤗
I haven't seen this saga's Kai version, yet. Did they get T-Square for the soundtrack? That's definitely someone playing an EWI there in the first minute of the episode.
They keep saying, "cheating" but obviously they don't literally mean cheating, come on guys lol.
It's like when you were a kid and your friend, sibling, parent etc., are just DESTROYING you in something competitive. You don't understand why you're losing, and no matter what you try, you can't gain an edge. You yell cheating just to exclaim your anger.

Movies are not canon. So Boujack doesn't exists in the"real" DBZ story.

We have to remember that this is a tournament and everyone knows that. Regardless of how much you may hate Spopovich, he is fighting fair. Enhanced, sure, but the truth of the matter is that Videl is not as strong the characters with ki control. You also have to respect Videl for trying to fight despite being beatdown. Also, Hercule was not aware that Spopovich had this transformation so he believed his daughter would wake over him. It was supposed to be an easy fight for her.
Spopovich is a psychopath he never plays fair
While I won't spoil anything, I can promise you, you will start to like Mr. Satan.
I can't help but wonder how Team Four Star would've tackled this fight, if they had gone ahead with season 4 of DBZ Abridged.

Kinda weird to say Spopovich is dishonorable or cheating just because he has an unknown advantage. If that's the case then all of the protagonists like Goku, Vegeta and Gohan are cheating/dishonorable. They're beyond superhuman and still knowingly enter a tournament where they would potentially "fight" average humans, killing any chance those people had at winning the prize.

Spopovich is amped by magic from an outside source which is making him roid out that's cheating as in the Budokai tenkaichi rules you cannot use performance enhancers or drugs before a match.
People saying this isn't cheating completely missed Akira toriyama's message and storytelling all these years and frankly it's sad. The entire point of the series is expressed by the turtle school saying. That should tell you whether or not toriyama or goku would consider spopovich cheating

- Gods
- Supreme Kai (Shin)
- The 4 Kai (one for each quadrant of the Universe, North Kai is the fat blue guy that trained Goku)
- Planetary Gods (Kami, the good half of Piccolo, then Dende, for Earth)
Then you get to DBS and it just keeps spiraling out (in perfect Shonen fashion, like DB has always done)
In general, it's not so much a matter of powewr, but responsibility: Each rung in the ladder is responsible for keeping a bigger portion of the multiverse going. It does tend to come with power increases, but the main cast of the show will keep growing in power exponentially, and become the most powerful of whatever level of the multiverse you're aware of on each season/segment
If I remember correctly I believe T he purple was supposed to be blood. They just censored it.

There is a lot of "sexism" debatte about this, going on for years.. and i'm tired of it.
Videl is a fighter and were able to beat Spopovich.. the "unfairness" in this fight comes from something else.. which would be a spoiler.. And believe me, in the manga.. it was even more brutal what this beast did to her..
But she was not helpless in the first place. She is a fighter with a huge level of Pride..like a saiyan. This fight is a good lesson for her. She los because of her pride.

18:40 If I remember right at this point Videl has a power level roughly in the hundreds next to the Z fighters she'd be one of the strongest people on Earth but Spopovich has a power level in the millions though his body isn't exactly used to or fit for it there isn't a good person on Earth not part of the Z fighters that can take him(aside from the newly introduced Supreme Kai and Kibito)
