I put CF as S for gentlemen carry and micarta at S for EDC. The Spyderco Chaparral is my knife that doesn’t get enough love. I love a lockback. I could see Liam with a Benchmade Barrage
Love the Native 5 LW! so many different steel choices. Also I think the UKPK is great knife even though it doesn't lock. I just grabbed the Salt version from you guys and it is amazing.
I've always liked the aesthetics of brass and copper but the feel of G10 and micarta. I imagine Liam Neeson would be carrying an OTF. A blacked out Micro Tech. 🤙
Another great episode, Guys! Really interesting to see how others rank handle material vs. how I would rank them. I actually basically agree with your rankings and I'm glad you mentioned perception because that's probably my secondary driver for knife purchases after ergonomics. I've absolutely passed up on some community favorites because the materials-to-price ratio was just not there (AUS-10 and FRN for $150? nah). Appreciate you all taking the time to put these together, have a great week!
Micarta is one of the things that a lot of people like and I really dislike. So that is pretty interesting. I haven't seen the taken movies but I will say Tops Street Scalpel 2.0.
Gotta say that the Para 3 in S90V’s Carbon Fiber is fantastic and certainly better than the G10 or FRN that Spyderco uses on their standard and LW Para 3’s
Titanium & Aluminum with some kind of etching for grip , As for Liam and his certain set of skills any fix blade that holds a sharp edge / Another sunny day here / Peace
I'm sorry but you guys didn't consider wood the same way I do. It's an organic material with a lot of variety. I special piece of wood with color and grain can be stunning. Maybe not the first choice for a tactical knife, but for showing off a beautiful design....a beautiful piece of wood can take a knife over the top.
Love the content. Always excited to watch the new episode. I think Titanium is an S material. Liam Neeson would rock like a gentlemen's karambit if there was one. He's always slaying close combat but like a more modern style of Steven Segal.
Add me to the list of people with the spyderco grievances the manix 2 lw pins and frn para3, I'm Ok with it on some models like the delica or dragonfly
The Native 5 is my favorite knife ever. Then the Inkosi. The N5 is not more beautiful or classy or even slicy but the continuous curve on the back and the ergos (LW or even my new S90V fluted carbon fiber
i have no real experience with FRN other than picking one up and immediately not liking the feel. It feels cheap and flimsy. I like older school handle materials. aluminum is great for EDC. Getting marred up is just part of getting carried.
Do you guys know if al-7063 with hardcoat ano is ever used in knives? It’s a material that very modern yoyos are using, because it’s amazingly strong, scratch proof and light. It has almost all the upsides of titanium but with much deeper ano colours, and a lot lower cost. As far as I know, most knives use al-6061, which is ok, but scratches like crazy and is pretty soft. Pretty new to the knife world and haven’t found anything about this yet.
E/R/E ... nice Friday late lunch break, thanks. Handle rankings were pretty good for most folders, but I do think a large fixed blade looks mighty fine with natural/parque wood and/or stag/bone handles. Liam N ... Spartan Harsey Dagger S45VN black.on.black like on REC New Arrivals (sorry, a little drool). Seems like not much respect for the Spyderco Police or the Resilience but I like both.
I am SHOCKED y’all put FRN so high! 😂 I literally sold my para 3 LW, manix 2 LW, griptilian, and bugout because the handles felt so cheap. But to each their own I guess. I also am not a huge fan of most micartas. I will say I am glad Everett is with me on the ZT 0990! Was exactly what I was thinking! 😉
What about brass and copper? A little high on the micarta, probably a solid A but not an S. FRN and G10 should be reversed. Ti and Brass would be at the top of my list.
I don't really have any criticism for the material ranking list because I haven't handled some of them. But my favorite ones are probably brass, micarta, and G-10 (in no particular order)
No pocket dump? For shame. LOL! Handle material never really mattered to me all that much as long as it was up to the job of being a durable handle material. I don't think I have anything with Terotuf so I have no opinion at all. Most of my carry knives lately are titanium but it's because I like the knife designs more than the material matters. I'll add with aluminum though, because it shows wear, there is something about a well used/worn looking knife. Not pre-distressed like I've seen some do but the character it gets as I use it. Sebenzas do the same as my small plain Sebenza looks like it's been dragged behind a car from all the use and carry. I'm actually wearing the DLC off the handles of a Ti knife from all the carry. Most I prefer a pristine look as I think most do, but there is something to the look of a well loved tool.
S: Titanium and Carbon Fiber A: Aluminum B: G10, Micarta and Terotuf C: CF-Elite D: Brass/Copper E: FRN/FRCP F: Wood, bone and stainless steel (only 100+ year olds will be butthurt). Spyderco Canis Liam Neeson would carry a Socom Elite Tanto, lmao. Awesome video, guys. Hopefully Riley will change his mind on FRN one of these days.
Expertly milled textured titanium ftw all day erryday. Particularly like jigged bone Ti & the WKRMN SEIGAIHA milled patterns. I would have to agree with another commenter that Liam would just take another attackers blade & use it against them...eazy peazy 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm definitely in!! I'm running out of room in my knife cases.
Alot of people hated on the donut blade hq boker kalashnikov but I love it
It's fun!
I love the visuals for brass., but the weight adds up.
Beautiful and heavy, like a Rolls Royce
Toor Serpent for sure for Liam.
Badass choice
Liam would have the all blacked out Protech SNG Operator
I like that choice
Awesome video as always gentleman!!!!!
Thank you!!
Another awesome REC guys keep it up!!
Thank you very much!
I didn’t know the manix wasn’t frn either!
It's even more rigid and a bit stronger!
I love spyderco G10.
Grippy grippy my friend
Love the REC reports!
Thank you, Ezra!
I just picked up my micarta cruwear PM2 today!!! Love the feel!!
Fantastic knife !
Enjoy your alls content 🤙🏽
Thanks Brandon!
Hooray 🍻 👏 ✌ 🥂 for Micarta!!!
That's right!
Liam carries a switchblade
Out the side or OTF?
Oh dang you jinx I had said yojimbo for Liam LOL 😆 😂 😅 🤣
That's the only right choice!
I put CF as S for gentlemen carry and micarta at S for EDC. The Spyderco Chaparral is my knife that doesn’t get enough love. I love a lockback. I could see Liam with a Benchmade Barrage
It's so slicey!
I. The sporting section at Walmart there is a hard case with pick and pull foam for $25 that can fit 20 to 30 knives.
I don't like FRN personally but I do agree with your comments on perceived value.
Thank you!
Thanks for the content guys, enjoy it.
Thank you so much for watching and engaging!
I love that frn ranked so high on your chart. It's a great material that gets down played a lot.
It has it's purpose!
Interesting REC report. But Ti handle is supreme. My .02
Titanium is a serious contender
Liam would do well with a Spyderco Advocate.
Great choice
You guys are the highlight to my Friday work day! Best knife channel
Thank you very much, David!
Love the videos. Keep them coming.
Yes sir!
Love the maximet Manix 2 lightweight. Good show by the way!
Thank you, Richard!
everyone hates on Opinels and i love them especially in carbon steel
Great knives for the price
Love the Native 5 LW! so many different steel choices. Also I think the UKPK is great knife even though it doesn't lock. I just grabbed the Salt version from you guys and it is amazing.
Thank you, Duke!
I think the spyderco yojumbo was a perfect idea for what knife Liam would carry in the Taken movies
That's right!
Like the format of your show!
Thank you very much!
Unpopular opinion, but I would like to see more company's use grippy rubber handles. They aren't fancy, but they are comfy, and they work well.
Benchmade still has a couple!
COLD STEEL MASTER TANTO
Ohhh I could see that!
Liam would carry a Socom Elite
A man after my own heart
titanium scales are my current weakness atm
You've caught the bug
Resin pinecone... S. I said what I said. Love the vids!
Resin Pinecone is god tier!
I've always liked the aesthetics of brass and copper but the feel of G10 and micarta. I imagine Liam Neeson would be carrying an OTF. A blacked out Micro Tech. 🤙
I like that choice for him!
Glad to see the regular crews back in action today!!!!!!!
After a short hiatus!
The Vault!!!
I think Liam Neeson would carry either an Al Mar SERE or an Emerson Persian.
I could see that!
Enjoying the REC report videos. Keep them coming!
Thank you, Henry!
REC Report Friday!
We're almost to the next one!
I am really enjoying these videos! I also agree with the tier list!
Thank you, Cody!
Another great episode, Guys! Really interesting to see how others rank handle material vs. how I would rank them. I actually basically agree with your rankings and I'm glad you mentioned perception because that's probably my secondary driver for knife purchases after ergonomics. Appreciate you all taking the time to put these together, have a great week!
Thank you BC, great to see you in the REC Room!
Ti, micarta and aluminum in that order for me.
I feel you there
Micarta is one of the things that a lot of people like and I really dislike. So that is pretty interesting. I haven't seen the taken movies but I will say Tops Street Scalpel 2.0.
To each their own, my friend !
Gotta say that the Para 3 in S90V’s Carbon Fiber is fantastic and certainly better than the G10 or FRN that Spyderco uses on their standard and LW Para 3’s
It is beautiful!
Much prefer Ti or wood. FRN, G10 and micarta I would put much lower, cheap plastic feel. Liam would carry a Hinderer XM18
I could totally see that
I could see Liam carrying a Pro-Tech Tactical Response TR3 in all black DLC coated.
That's a great choice!
Love the videos guys. You forgot the pocket dump though 😂
Zach you're right! Sometimes we get too focused
I think Liam would have the Microtech Stitch!
I could see that!
Watch out Russel we’re coming for your feathers!
😂
Vault cases are awesome
Ti should have been an S with the ano work what can be done with it and you can get it in pretty much any texture you want
Incredibly versatile
Great content keep it up 👍
Thank you Terry!
Titanium & Aluminum with some kind of etching for grip , As for Liam and his certain set of skills any fix blade that holds a sharp edge / Another sunny day here / Peace
in for the giveaway
Always thought that the spyderco tropen never received enough credit..
I just need stronger pants!
There really are a ton of great material options these days, we are almost spoiled for choice! Great ranking!
You're right about that! Thank you!
I'm thinking Liam would need something with a neon colored handle, like a Spyderco Dragonfly, so that he doesn't lose it .. or it's not Taken.
Maybe something with a lanyard attached to his body 😂
i hope i pull that vault case tho XD, love the content guys !
This is what makes the knife community great, thank you EG for your perspective!
Ti is supreme
I've really been liking my terotuff scales, gotta be S tier for me
From over G10? But good freaking video overall.
Thanks, Trey!
Ti is S tier 100%
It's up there !
Cant bring myself to buy anything with frn. Titanium is my favorite.
I know you can't, Mike!
Love the content. Always excited to watch the new episode. I think Titanium is an S material. Liam Neeson would rock like a gentlemen's karambit if there was one. He's always slaying close combat but like a more modern style of Steven Segal.
Thank you, Chris!
Add me to the list of people with the spyderco grievances the manix 2 lw pins and frn para3, I'm Ok with it on some models like the delica or dragonfly
A lot of people agree with you, Dusty!
Hehehe called it, as soon as you said: we are going to be starting of with a new comer, I said Terotuf.
That's right!
The Native 5 is my favorite knife ever. Then the Inkosi. The N5 is not more beautiful or classy or even slicy but the continuous curve on the back and the ergos (LW or even my new S90V fluted carbon fiber
One of the most under-appreciated knives ever
I live in Ohio and just found out about you. cant wait to support a local company
Thank you, Austin! Come in and see us
Stay awesome
You too, my friend!
i have no real experience with FRN other than picking one up and immediately not liking the feel. It feels cheap and flimsy. I like older school handle materials. aluminum is great for EDC. Getting marred up is just part of getting carried.
worn aluminum looks better than pristine
Somebody should give Riley a s90v Manix t shirt!
We might need to make that!
Liam Neeson would sport a TOPS US Combat Knife. That requires a particular set of skills !
😂
Do you guys know if al-7063 with hardcoat ano is ever used in knives? It’s a material that very modern yoyos are using, because it’s amazingly strong, scratch proof and light. Do y’all have a vault case in micarta? 😂
That's not a half-bad idea!
E/R/E ... nice Friday late lunch break, thanks.
That Harsey dagger is so badass
I am SHOCKED y’all put FRN so high! 😂 I literally sold my para 3 LW, manix 2 LW, griptilian, and bugout because the handles felt so cheap. But to each their own I guess. I also am not a huge fan of most micartas.
I will say I am glad Everett is with me on the ZT 0990! Was exactly what I was thinking! 😉
Thanks, Callen!
What about brass and copper? A little high on the micarta, probably a solid A but not an S. FRN and G10 should be reversed. Ti and Brass would be at the top of my list.
I knew we would forget some!
I think Liam Neeson would carry a Benchmade Adamas or a TOPS Dawn Warrior.
I could see both of those!
I could use that case
Titanium, but groovy titanium at top of list.
All the grip, all the strength
Emerson Karambit, no doubt.
Liam definitely has a Benchmade fact
I can totally see that
Rec para 3 lw or manix2 lw?
I don't really have any criticism for the material ranking list because I haven't handled some of them. But my favorite ones are probably brass, micarta, and G-10 (in no particular order)
We forgot brass!!
My favorites are titanium and terotuf… there’s definitely a place for all of them though 😀👍🔪
That's right!
Tell Riley FRN sssuuuuuuckkkkks
I think he's locked in ! 😂
Liam would take his attackers knife whatever it might be and use it on them!!!!!!
I love that 😂
No pocket dump? For shame. LOL! Handle material never really mattered to me all that much as long as it was up to the job of being a durable handle material. You're right, it's more about the whole package!
Here's my entry comment
S: Titanium and Carbon Fiber
A: Aluminum
B: G10, Micarta and Terotuf
C: CF-Elite
D: Brass/Copper
E: FRN/FRCP
F: Wood, bone and stainless steel (only 100+ year olds will be butthurt).
Spyderco Canis
Liam Neeson would carry a Socom Elite Tanto, lmao.
Awesome video, guys. Hopefully Riley will change his mind on FRN one of these days.
Dig the list !
Liong Mah has some awesome jigged titanium
@@riversedgecutlery4260 Indeed, I own 3.. Lanny v2, L1 & the Warrior2 v3
I would put Terotuf in the F class for "F that stuff." Also, calling FRN and FRCP just "plastic" is like calling S30V or Magnacut just "metal."
Agreed, very strong stuff
Where are brass and copper/
Knives
KNIVES
Spyderco police
Great choice for Liam
Lol, FRN is almost as bad as stainless steel for me.
Titanium is easily S.
It's up there !
Knifes go in pockets
or sheaths!
