    Western contract pilots flying fighters for Ukraine would be very much like the First American Volunteer Group (nicknamed the Flying Tigers) created by Claire L. Chennaullt to provide air power for the Chinese in 1940-41. About 100 pilots were recruited and flew P40's. Remember that the Russians sent pilots to fly Mig-15's in the Korean War, so they can hardly object to us returning the favor.

    • @cplcabs
      @cplcabs ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@LRRPFco52 You clearly haven't. Iraq's military was severely weakened by the first Gulf war and whilst it had SAMs etc it did not use them effectivly. So for example, in 2003 6 aircraft were shot down were shot down by enemy fire....5 helicopters and one A10. Thats 6 aircraft shot down by enemy aircraft out of 43 aircraft out of 30 helicopters and 7 fixed wing either crashed or were shot down by friendly fire. So hardly the major war that we see in Ukraine.
      The bombing campaign in Serbia was hardly anything like the war in Ukraine either. Yes, Serbs put up a lot of anti aircraft fire but it was ineffective resulting in only 2 allied planes were shot down and a small number of UAV out of about 38,000 missions.
      What you fail to realise is that the Russian war machine is way more advanced then that of Iraq and Serbia and any pilots going there now will not have the support or tech that they are used to. It will be a lot harder than they think.

    • @LRRPFco52
      @LRRPFco52 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@cplcabs I was talking Iraq 1990-1991 and I absolutely have studied the order of battle of Iraq, Serbia, and Russia for decades now. Been studying Russian order of battle since the 1970s before we moved to West Germany in 1980.
      The Ukrainian border region with Russian IADS is a bit of a different problem for certain.
      Somebody made a comment that a former Wild Weasel pilot didn't seem to be aware of the AOR and threat, which is like telling a 20yr career plumber he doesn't know how to fit a pipe.

    • @cplcabs
      @cplcabs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LRRPFco52 ok, in Iraq 1990-1991 yes, things were a little different, but they were still not a competent enemy who were not ready to fight such a war.
      Here is a little story for you. An experienced US marine who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan went to Ukraine to fight thinking his experiences would serve him and the Ukrainians well....bit like the guy in this video really. He was there less than a month and decided that it wasn't for him. He was used to a lot of support at every stage and an enemy that was weak and that wasn't happening in Ukraine. Instead he found an enemy that was very capable and fight with a ferocity he had not witnessed before
      Now obviously there is a big difference from being on the ground to that in the air. However, this guy is used to having everything good...in Ukraine they are not going to be able to maintain the aircraft to the standards they do in the US, the food will not be so good, the accommodation won't be so good, but more importantly and more relevant the equipment won't be as good (nations are giving old and obsolete equipment), the munitions won't be so good, the munitions won't be so plentiful and so on and so on. I am not saying he will be wiped out straight away, what I am saying is this is something he has not seen before and his bravado will take a beating if he is lucky.

    This is a brilliant idea, have western pilots with decades of experience in western fighters fly for Ukraine now while their next generation of western trained pilots go through their courses in the west.
    Ukraine is getting 25 westernized MiG-29s from Poland and Slovakia which will fill the gap for a little while, but Ukraine needs the air component badly to finish this war. F-16s can counter the high altitude miG-31s and Su-35s that are shooting down low level Ukrainian combat aircraft, they can use all the HARM modes unlike the MiG-29s that are firing them now in Ukraine and also drop the smart bombs Ukraine is already getting like JDAMs.

    Pretty tall talk from a guy who in his entire career never flew against a peer nation but only third-rate ones militarily speaking. Does he really think that Russian pilots are a bunch of “cabbage-heads”? I say let this guy and his buddies take a job flying F-16s with the Ukrainians. They could call themselves “The Flying Tigers 2.0”. What could possible go wrong? Runways are a problem as the Russians keep on bombing them so the Ukrainians recently approached the Moldovans and asked if they could have their jets take off from there but the Moldovans balked as they knew that it would drag them into a shooting war with the Russians. He may deride Russia’s older fighters as clunky in their cockpit layout but I never heard of near an entire squadron of them sitting on the runway being unable to boot their fighters up.
