This was a good game but I think it could have been one of the top 10 SNES games with some tweaks. It was a little too short and they got a little boss happy at the end. I still have fond memories though. Thanks for posting!
Back when I was kid, seeing Sentinel burst through the elevator like that for the first time was one of the most amazing things ever in this game, that and seeing Brood Queen. Apocalypse's stage theme was and still is phenomenal. I used love playing this and War of Gems, my friends and would take turns playing and would sometimes designate who would play who. Great games and good times.
This game had bits of every good game from Capcom: Megaman X´s music, Demon´s Crest sound effects and gritty atmosphere, Street Fighter moves and huge colorful sprites, Final Fight gameplay, and a good difficulty and addictive fun factor.
Right? They were in a ton of awesome games and of course the badass animated series. Gonna go listen to the intro right after watching some gameplay here lol.

So much nostalgia! It blew my mind there was a “true” ending if you go straight through without passwords. I marathoned the game, and always have since then.
Glad to see that bouncing between enemies as Beast and Psylocke was the norm 🤣 . This game was the bomb, I got it in summer of 95 and immediately got immersed in it. Gambit and Psylocke were my faves.
I'm confused on how they are able to do that. Every single time I tried, Beast just becomes completely non-responsive when bouncing and gets hit. Psychocke was also a pain. She had a different attack every time to the exact same attack combos (the same one I've been using since SF2 as a kid when it first came out), which basically ended up with her just completely bouncing around. I was actually coming here to have them confirm this was a TAS run. I say this also because they seemed to have a LOT more s than I do, as I've used some attacks and actually been knocked out of my mutant attack (specifically that Sentinel with Psylocke) that this player just literally phases through and walks through without being hurt.
I remember being a kid and seeing my 14 yr old brother play this like nothing! Always had to sneak in a game or two when he wasn’t around lol By far one of the best games from the 90s.
@@Walking-MY-Path them, square & atlus along with nis America & z seed & arcsystems are decent companies still. Incomparsion to many out there. But capcom still while redeemed have a tendency to still half ass some shit they put together. The Rockman x legacy collection is an easy example. There’s no reasons why all 8 of those games can’t fit on a Cartridge or Blueray disc.
The soundtrack on this gives me that Mega Man X feel. Just imagine playing as the X-Men in Mega Man X... I could see Cyclops killing all mavericks. coincidentally, he is my symbol and will always be it.

We instantly became friends, and I have him two times physically, one as a tiny, little figure that sits atop my bed table fan. And the other is where he's voice responsive and electronic, where he watches over my room with a crystallized stare. And I said, crystallized because his visor land is crystalline.
What a great beat em up/platformer and great ost this was and still is. Capcom had that magic touch back in the day with whatever project they worked on. 🥰
I just started playing this game earlier tonight on my snes; admittedly I actually had a little trouble at first as I learned the characters but now I’m loving it, what an under-appreciated Capcom game :0

I've only seen the first three, but Wolverine hogged too much of the spotlight and you could barely tell that Cyclops was supposed be the strong-minded field leader of the X-Men. His stature felt significantly reduced for those of us who were used to his 90's cartoon adaptation (he might've been a bit vanilla, but he held his own).
@@megavolt67 The results were in. Wolverine was the fan favorite. And any writer that is trying to write movies, gives people what they want. Thus Wolverine's focus was pushed more in the subsequent films.

Ha, Capcom doing the old trick of dropping enemies on you in the elevator shaft ride (a staple of their beat em ups) although this might be more platform than beat em up. I love Gambit's level themes. His first one actual sounds eerily familiar from a wrestling theme in the early '90s from the wrestler Greg the Hammer Valentine. I remember my little brother getting this game for Christmas 1994 I want to say, and us just having a ball playing it. We beat it a few days after Christmas but we kept playing it over the next few years.
This is an awesome X-ample of a good license-based game! I remember playing it in my youth, and replaying it in contemporary times makes me want to say it's a great effort by Capcom! (Years after watching a subpar Screwattack Video Game Vault review, go figure) And the only X-Men game by Capcom where you can actually *play* as Beast... You probably made this in light of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinity's trailers, huh? Out of curiosity, how does this hold up compared to X-Men 2: Clone Wars? And I'll definitely go on record to say that X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse > X-Men on the Genesis in the sense that I don't have to put up with a level that requires you to softly reset the game in order to progress.
vgaoct91 In all honesty I totally forgot about that coming out soon lol. I just really like the game :) I like it better than either of the Sega games for sure. I didn't mind the reset in that one. My problem with it was that I just always found the game ugly and a bit clunky. Fun, but it doesn't touch this

Several of those sprites were also used in the fighting games x-men children of the atom and marvel super heroes. It was cheaper to just copy them and it worked out afterall.
I noticed especially in Psylocke's mission some of the sentinel lasers fazed through psylocke without doing damage. Do some of her moves have invincibility? or was there something off with the hitboxing cause i swear ive been hit by those lasers while doing the same punches you were doing.
Brooooo. I never realized how close I got as a child. I remember everything right up to that machine right before Magneto. That's kind of a bummer. Guess I gotta beat it now.

Yeah I notice alot a similarities with megaman X in it's style. Even the fight with magneto reminds me of the final boss on super guals n ghost

Massive fights in space stations between heroes and villains are easily the best things for a final battle.

The beast stage music is very calming well a lot of capcom music is calming the final fight music was that type too
