AMTRAK isn't a dump like many people think they are. They do a hell of a job with what they're given (which is not much.) You're also lucky Sergei, because you had a rare Dash 8 locomotive pulling the train. Typically it's a Genesis. Great video!
WOW could see the new football field at my alma mater Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster Pa. Used to be the old Armstrong Liberty Street flooring plant when I was there in the early 1980's!
Great historical record of Philadelphia-Harrisburg Amtrak trip circa 2014. Would be interesting to re-record the trip in light of recent infrastructure spending initiatives.
Yes. Called Leaman Place, it was once proposed to be a new passenger station. It would enable Keystone riders to transfer to the Strasburg Railroad. But it was postponed indefinitely once the state learned how much a modern ADA compliant train stop here would cost.
There is a slight drop in ride quality but it’s not as bad as the video suggests. Remember that until the the early 2000s Lancaster to Harrisburg was laid with really beat up jointed rail restricted to 60 mph. Today’s welded rail is a vast improvement over that.
@@Wingnutcaseman I heard the trains now go up to 110 mph on that stretch now, so much better track - isn't all the track welded from Philadelphia to Harrisburg? Only the freight lines after Harrisburg to Pittsburgh are still jointed rail for almost all the way.
Where exactly are you at 40:02 of the video? Septa regional rail train there but I figured at that point in the video you would have been beyond where the regional rail lines go to. I guess not. Is that Downingtown?
This train was really humming along. Was that 147 MPH? I saw that whole first section of the track had white concrete ties but the rest didn't. It's nice to know the conductor gets ongoing info on the temperature of the axles and such. Those bearings have to be going through hell.
+skinnymule2 wiki says that "The line between Philadelphia and Lancaster was four tracks until the 1960s, when the PRR removed two of the tracks. The line is now two tracks from Paoli to Harrisburg, save for a three-track section between the Glen and Park interlockings, and a four-track section between the Downs and Thorn interlockings."
Yes it was the route of the Broadway limited. Both Amtrak's and Prr's for sure. Amtrak has unfortunately ended their's from service, and if you want to go from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to Chicage, you have to take the Capital Limited.
skinnymule2 the line is 4 tracks from Philadelphia to Thorndale for the septa thorndale-center city line. past thorndale its two tracks for amtrak starting in coatesville as a continuation of keystone or Pennsylvanian trains.
Not really. West of Lancaster it parallels PA 283. It does parallel US30 for a while east of Lancaster, but not for long. US30 takes a jog to southwest just north and west of Lancaster so it can go through York and Gettysburg. The train keeps going west to Harrisburg.
Crazy to think #915 would be saved for Strasburg and the Rail Museum there.

Great video's Sergei !!
LUV the ride!
Five star material!!
Sergei, you have some EXCELLENT videos! Keep up the good work!
Strasburg Railroad Spur at about 56:16.

Sweet. You got 513!
Smooth ride from Philly to Lancaster, after Lancaster it's shake and rattle. Why has Amtrak not addressed this issue?

VERY GOOD
What year was this recorded? I saw two grade crossing that now are gone.

It seems to be Thorndale station, terminus of the SEPTA line. It is located next to PRR Thorndale Yard where the tracks are mostly gone.

KPH
looks like about four tracks wide the home of the Broadway Ltd?
Wow I can see my mothers house in Coatesville
4 tracks wide ,the Broadway?
Looks to be about four tracks wide is this the home of the Broadway Ltd?

"Where are you from"? "Nunyabidniss".
I'll assume that this is the line parallel to US Route 30.

Were you in business class?
Yes.
Why the old diesel?
You can't switch power in Harrisburg
What did you use to record this?
I used Canon G15.
Must have been going about 100 mph !!!!
Definitely. Parts of the line support 110 mph...or 177 km/h on Sergei’s phone.
Trian goes home 🏠
om o
From one dump of a city to another bigger dump......good vid tho
@Bruce Lee
Why do you say a "dump"?
"another bigger dump" Harrisburg is at least 10 times smaller than Philadelphia
