Learn to Play Presents Massive Darkness 2 Play Through

  • A decade has passed since the Darkness' hordes were driven back by the Lightbringers. But now new portals have appeared, and the Massive Darkness is back with its hordes stronger than ever !!!! Now, the Lightbringers will need to journey to Hell to stop Darkness from destroying the world. The fate of all the world will be determined by who triumphs between the Light and the Darkness!!!
    Join me in my battle against the hordes as I play through a scenario of Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape. I'll be showing off the first, middle, and end couple of turns to show how the game plays and progresses to help you decide if you would like to get this Kickstarter from CMON.

    One of the things I really like about this series is that the map is already laid out. One of my biggest peeves is when I have to look through tiny letters/numbers in a stack of tiles to find the next room.
    This and zombicide know my struggle :)

      That's fair, It does make things a lot easier to manage and you don't have to worry about running out of table space;)

    One of the best playthrough for this game on the Web. Would like to see the campaign mode played... MP = Movement Point and not Mana Point & The Ranger and the Rogue began their activation during the second turn on the zone with the Red consecration zone (+1 hp) & The star symbol (mana) on yellow dice so the character regain a mana. & In the scenario, it cost a Movement Point to exit and not a Mana.

    Thanks for the nice playthrough, I would love to see one with the other classes as well, especially the ones from expansions.
    Important rules mistake is, that you need to spawn a mob on EVERY portal in the darkness phase: " Every Darkness Phase advances the Darkness track by 1 space.
    When the track reaches a (mob symbol) , spawn a Mob (see page 17) in every
    Zone that has any Portal. When the Darkness track reaches a (RM symbol)
    , spawn a Roaming Monster on the Roaming Monster Portal
    Zone." (Page 26 from the rules)

      This would have really caused the game to ramp up at the end. There would have been at least one additional Mob group prior to the gateway, and potentially another round causing 2 more groups to come into play from the 2 portals.
      It's nice that they made it so damage can carry over to the Leader mob when killing minions. Activations are a precious commodity and having to waste an entire activation to just target the leader was painful.

    Rewatching and figured I’d point somethings out to help your next video be even better then it is because it is good. 😃
    When I played this mission I player 3 characters as well (Paladin, Ranger, Shaman). My mistake was I used all 3 portals (1 blue & 2 green) which is for a 5+ group! I successfully made it through the mission….barely. Had to make run for the portal around round 17! 🤣Maybe in your future videos mention the setup differences based on player group size to your viewers.
    Just an FYI, CMON has released an official FAQ on their website. In the FAQ one of the things clarified (added?) they say a rest action (and the Fountains) can remove a Fire Token in place of adding a Health Token. As I read it the Ranger had the option of ridding himself of the Fire Token and healing 1 Health (instead of healing 2 Health) when he rested.
    When the imp exploded the Rogue should have gotten the XP as she triggered its effect. If no one triggered the effect then the players would choose who receives the XP (page 20-21).

    Just received my pledge and as a newcomer to Massive Darkness I would love to see more instruction and campaign play for this! Thanks, as has been noted in a previous comment this is so far the best play through out there, good job as usual! And I will say I have learned a few very complex games from you that I just could not grok from other peoples videos, I guess it’s just that soothing voice and attention to detail ha ha
    well done keep it up!

    Thanks for the video. Really enjoyed it. Just want to point out that you placed the bridges in the wrong spots. They belong one spot over outside the portal room.

    Great video. I have a lot of the Kickstarter stuff, and it’s now all painted, but I haven’t actually got it to the table yet due to the queue of games already on the playlist. In the meantime, I’m absorbing as many quality play through videos as I can! Would love to see a learning video for sure.

    Hi Lance ! This is my favorite dungeon crawler but still not much time to play latały. I think that rogue is taking tokens not shown (back side) . First u take an action and then reveal a token and see u got boosted?

So with the rogue in the rules it states (At the start of each round, draw 3 tokens from the thieving Tools bag and place them faceup on the table used side down) which I am interpreting as the side with the x on it so you will be able to see the chooses you have for the turn. I think if you are blink drawing the tokens it would make the rogue a very weak character.

    Is there a reason why the rouge didn't take all those mana tokens during your attacks when rolled? I'm currently only 35 minutes into the video.

      It is a solid game. There is a good amount of small rules that make it a little complex, but overall not to bad once you have the basics down;)

    Does a leader count as a "minion? I expected you to only roll 2 black dice in the first fight initially.

    Confusion re Max Health. Surely health goes up by one at each level up. ie a character that starts the game with 2 health will, after leveling 5 times, have a max health of 7. You take the mana but not the health stating health is already at max.

      Nope. The health increase listed next to the level if always over the BASE health(so a character that increased health by 1 moving from Level 1 to Level 2, WOULD NOT increase again from Level 2 to Level 3.

    Great game but there are some just some minor mistakes you had made.
    22:37 you forgot the draw the door card.
    Also the ranger has done 4 actions and it is not correct.
    22:40 First action (2MP): open the door, then next to the upper tile
    23:42 Second action (2MP): move to the lower tile, then move to the right tile
    23:55 Third action (2MP): open the door on the right, then you can choose to move inside the room (which you have decided not to)
    26:35 Fourth action: recover 2 health

    Correction for you: Mobs spawn ON ALL portals(Green and Purple) in a 3 or more player game. Roaming monsters only spawn on Purple portals.

    I think every time a model is removed from play you get the XP. If no one directly kills the enemy players choose who gets it. (Top left, pg21, Blue Note)

      Thanks for posting these corrections. This was a rougher play through and I have the rules down much better now. I will be doing some teaching videos starting with each one of the characters first than maybe a full teaching video for the game.

    This looks like a nifty game, but it would be nice if the camera was zoomed in a bit. It's so zoomed out that it's almost impossible to see what's going on.

This one takes up a lot of table space and unfortunately I had to zoom out to get the character boards in so people can see what is going on with everything, but I will see if I can tighten up things for the next play through video on Massive Darkness 2.

    Didn't they use to have a symmetrical ability's? I thought each player had their own mini game or something like that.

      They had skill sheets that had skills on them, but each character played the same way. Now each class plays very differently.
