    Question: How do I keep the border pattern for a lap blanket. At some point I’m going to reach the width I like and just keep knitting to hit the length so without increases, how do I maintain the border pattern? Great tutorial btw!

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Braine, this blanket is meant to be knitted with increases to the center (widest point) and then decrease down to the other point. If you keep knitting without increases at the center section, it may look kind of wonky. I recommend just keep increasing until you hit the desired diagonal width and then start the decreases OR knit an entirely different blanket style such as a simple rectangle. Cast on 100-125 stitches and knit every row until blanket reaches the desired length and then bind off.

      Hi Nichole, Sweet Roll is an acrylic yarn. To me, it felt a bit cottony rather than wooly when knitting it but I was really pleased with the result. You can try going up to a US 10.5 needle and see if that makes a difference for you.

    Hi again! I am *finally*, after many months, making good headway on this blanket (it's been quite a year, as it has for everyone, and I didn't get the chance to start and finish this project when I would have liked..). My next question is, can you tell me exactly when you need to start a new skein of yarn in this pattern? I am not even close to the decrease part of the pattern, but I would just like to be prepared/have a heads up since it will be my first time having to start a new skein of yarn within a project.
    Many thanks appreciated and I hope you are well!

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Suzanna, I'm glad you didn't give up on your knitting! I just want to let you know that knitting starts out very slowly but as you knit more your knitting will speed up and you will be whipping out projects left and right. As for the size, I made my blanket 24" x 24" square. So when you measure one of the sides (not on the needles) and it measures 24" or the size you want, it's time to start the decrease portion. Keep me posted on your progress! 😀

    I'm about to start a couple of these for my boys. I'm only going to be using one big skein, I was just wondering how do I know when I'm halfway through? So I know when to start decreasing without running out of wool ❤

    • @southpaw487
      @southpaw487 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weigh the ball of yarn before you start and knit until half the yarn is left, then start to decrease. You need to keep checking the weight so you don’t go past the halfway. Of course, you may want to include a little fudge factor to make sure you don’t run out of yarn in case your gauge on the last half changes a little.

    • @ashleysimmons3210
      @ashleysimmons3210 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you work from the center of the skein, once you’ve made it halfway through the skein, maybe do one more row and then start decreasing. Decreasing the stitches uses less yarn. Hope that helps!😁

But the edges are measuring longer than 15” is this right ? Or do I just inc until the egdes measure 15 “ but then it won’t measure 30” in the centre ,I’m struggling with this . Or do these corner to corner blankets come out oblong ? I want square 30”x 30” . Thank you Ann

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ann, If you want a 30 x 30" square, you'll need to knit until the sides of the blanket measure 30". The diagonal will actually be longer than that. Keep me posted on your progress! 😀

    I wish that all, or most projects would give an 'Estimated time in hours of completion (maybe for beginner and intermediate levels), as this is rarely ever stated. One thing holding me back is not having an idea of the time commitment to complete projects and this keeps me from getting started in the first place.

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stanley, That's a great question. However, it varies so much from knitter to knitter as well as how much time you actually sit down and knit. I think my overall time to create this blanket was about 5-6 hours. I worked on it while I watched TV - so about 3 movies. I personally, don't like long projects - all of the projects you'll see in my videos are meant to be created in less than a weekend. I hope that helps! 😀

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cortney, The blanket I made is 24" square. I didn't count the stitches when I got to the center. • @nobleknits

      Yes, you can put a different color along the edges. I would have two skeins of black going, one for each side. You need to make sure you twist the old and new colors when you change so that you don't have holes. This video shows how to do it: th-cam.com/video/n7UfBXMWvhQ/w-d-xo.html

    I love this video, thank you! I am having trouble though. I wanted it to be bigger, so I just kept increasing it until the side was the length I wanted (about 42") I kept track with how many rows I did on the increase and how many stitches (eg Row 273 had 176 stitches and then row 274 I started the decrease which dropped the stitch amount to 174 -So that would be the 'half way' point) Which means I should have 546/547 rows total on my blanket if I went by rows, but if I followed the decrease of every second row of 2 stitches -then I will run out of stitches at Row 448. I'm at row 321 now and am very confused how it's all worked out, it doesn't look like I've decreased too quickly, the corners look even, but I also don't want the blanket to turn out Kite shaped instead of a square! Any idea's of what I could of done wrong?

    • @laurienorton7422
      @laurienorton7422 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you started with 3 stitches, and increased every other row, you would have increased 135 times (one stitch each end every other row). You should have had a total of 273 stitches. Then you would decrease one stitch each end every other row 135 times to get back to 3 stitches. There should be an odd number of stitches on every row.

    How many stitches do you recommend doing when starting to knit it

      @nobleknits  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ashvika, this blanket starts by casting on three stitches.😀

    Can I ask how you change your colour and at what point?

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ashley, There is no color changing with this project. I used a self-striping yarn so it did all of the color changes for me. 😀

    I am on row 50 and it is looking very triangular... is this normal?

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lizzy, Yes! You are knitting from corner to corner. In the first half of the shawl, you will be increasing to make a large triangle. Then when you reach the halfway point, you'll begin decreasing which forms the square.

    This stitch just does not work for me. It just gets tighter and tighter and then I am unable to continue. How can I fix that?

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brian, Even though this blanket is knitted on the bias, it is entirely garter stitch (knit every row), so I don't think it's the stitch that is the problem. It sounds like a few other things are what's causing the issue. First, make sure that you are knitting the stitches onto the widest part of the needle, not the point. Second, after you knit a stitch, don't pull on the yarn to tighten. Third, are you relaxed when you're knitting? Sometimes it can be very stressful when learning to knit and you don't even realize how tense your fingers, hands, and shoulders are. Give those things a try and keep me posted on your progress. 😀

    Hi, how do I increase the size of the blanket

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shahina, It's really easy. Just keep doing increase row and the knit row until the blanket is as wide as you'd like. Then start the decrease part of the project. To know how wide and long your blanket is, measure one of sides of the blanket (not the stitches on the needle). 😀Keep me posted on your progress!

    Hi. I am a super beginner and want to try this pattern for a friend who is having a baby. However, you don't explain what to do when you start to run out of your first skein of yarn. Do you have to bind off? Cast on? What happens?

    • @nobleknits
      @nobleknits  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Susanna, I didn't explain it because I only used one skein for this entire blanket. However, if you run out of yarn, join the old yarn with the new yarn - tie them together with a square knot leaving at least a 4" tail on each. Continue knitting with the new yarn. When the blanket is completed, untie the square knot and weave in the yarn ends. There are many methods of joining new yarn, but this is my favorite for blankets. 😀

    How would you do a rectangle blanket?

    • @kae9341
      @kae9341 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do one increase per row until you get the desired width of your blanket, which would be the halfway point in this video project. This will finish the short side. However, instead of doing a decrease on each row from this point on, you will decrease on one side of the blanket and increase on the other, keeping the number of stitches the same. Make sure you decrease the same side and increase the same side to get a clean rectangle. You'll be working up the long side of the blanket. Do this until you get the desired length of your blanket, then decrease one on each row.
      *You'll likely need more yarn than the two skeins, though.
