After Tata's insult, businessemen like me generally tend to avoid West Bengal. Though I tried to break the stigma and wanted to set up a manufacturing plant in WB. But oh boy, it's so easy to do business in Gujarat than in WB.
Till TMC in power I don't think there will be any major development in WB. Because we are reluctant to go there.

There was a time when Delhi was smaller than cities like Lucknow and Agra. But now that is history. Today Delhi has built NCR (the most developed and progressive region of the country).
That is to say, change takes time. Kolkata may not shine as before, but the way Kolkata and specially newtown are progressing, I am sure Kolkata will become an economic front runner for eastern region and for the country.

I am from Kolkata and living In Bengaluru so let me add some point you got it incorrect or you missed -
    1. Kolkata Airport is definitely one of the best not the worst.. and also not far from the city unlike Bangalore and Hyderabad.
    2. Compared to other metropolis, Kolkata is much better in power supply. You can never recall even a single second blackout unless it was affected by cyclone.
    3. Infrastructure although many will deny is at par with other metros.. I know many will deny.. but bro you are playing this stock footage of old calcutta with tram and hand rickshaw so you don't get the modern picture. Its really not bad. The problem is open slums that is partly because of refugee migration from East Pakistan.
    3. You said rail transport not better. A simple google search will reveal it to you that local train network here is much more than Mumbai Suburban and also more efficient. Howrah and Sealdah are the busieat railway stations of India with at par if not better facility than mgr central, ndls or other big station.
    4. IT parks are big and can definitely catch up and beat Hyderabad and Blr because of good power supply and better infra.
    5. Even Skyline in Kolkata is next to Mumbai. Even in Bangalore buildings beyond 20-30 floor is rare.. but Kolkata is fully dotted inside and outside the city with skyscrapers. Get done with your stock footages.
    6. Even in its decline phase its still better in economics and transportation then other growing city. I know many will deny.
    7. Politics is definitely worse but although with wokeness people are much better in Kolkata.. be it culturally or safety. It is as much cosmopolitan as Blr and Delhi.
    6. And if you compare central parts of Kolkata where assembly and administrative buildings and present it is as good as Chennai's Marina- Fort Area, Bangalore Cubbon Park Area or even Lutyen Area of Delhi..
I have added some positive points just to make your points balanced.
Yes it has many issues and we have to eventually overcome it and better Kolkata and Bengal.

@@Sachin-bz9ix I do agree but I disagree (completely or partly) on 1,2 and 3.
      1) Kolkata airport infrastructure is good but the problem is the transportation to the airport. The taxis just loot the foreigners and even common people from Kolkata. Also compared to Bengaluru (though it may be outdated as it is from 2018) Kolkata has less number of international flights. I know this as my father travels to Western countries 3-4 yrs for important office work.
      2) I don't know about other cities but powe cuts are not as rare as you told. They happen many times (I can't compare with other metro cities because unlike my father, I haven't visited any other major metro cities like Bengaluru) in a month (in summers: 2-3 times, in winters: almost 0 and in rains: 3-5 times). In the last month only, the electricity went out twice in my area in Kalikapur. The street light next to our house has fused some days ago and the CESC came two days later after they were called! It may sound a very small issue but the area here is filled with dengue mosquitoes and if the light goes out, then we can't understand whether the area next to our house has stagnant water or not (a construction is currently going on there and yes the people are not very friendly and always play tricks on us). When people from municipality came one day after the light fused, they told mosquito larvae was found in the stagnant water! Just tell how will we live on the ground floor with windows open , thank god that we have mosquito nets on windows. Then again two days later the new light fused, which was again repaired that again got fused. So I totally disagree on this point as it depends on what area you are talking about.
      3) Yes you are right that infrastructure is quite better than many metros. I mean Gurugram just flooded in some hours of rain even though it's a planned city whereas whole Bidhannagar area and Newtown can stand more than 12 hours of continuous rain. But the transportation infrastructure still lags quite. Yes buses, taxis and autos are quite available but when it comes to metros, it takes 10+ yes to construct a single line whereas the other cities built it in 4-6 yrs. Mumbai which came into the game so later is on the way of overtaking Kolkata the oldest metro in this year only in almost all terms of metro comparison. And the trams just kept as tourist attraction and heritage whereas it can be used as both of them as well as for carrying daily passengers with very less maintenance cost and pollution. So I partially disagree on this point.

Bengal is the only state in india which is politically most challenged state since 1905. Then 1947 then 1971 war refugee crisis then 1977 Communist revuluation. Most of the biggest companies today situated in Mumbai, Delhi or gujrate originated in kolkata which leave after communist came to power. Birla went to mumbai, RBI went to mumbai, TATA went to gujrate they will not come back again. So the solution is to follow chinese development model if kolkata really want to 'Calcutta' within a decades and not only overshoot delhi mumbai but also can compete with cities like HongKong, Shanghai, singapore, California and get the title "London in the East" again. 👍😎

Owning a car in Kolkata means you have to park in some garage which is not directly inside your home premises like other Indian cities such as Delhi. This is due to the fact that Kolkata has narrow streets and cars can't be parked there without obstructing traffic. If WB govt passes a law mandating 100% electric vehicle policy just in the greater Kolkata area, you would have a market of 20 million electric vehicles. Implementation would require incentives for making electric charging points in homes and garages mandatory. All public transport either becomes electric or CNG powered. The Yellow ambassador taxis and Tata buses would have to go for newer electric alternatives. Kolkata could lead the electric vehicle revolution then.

    Let me correct/tell you
    1. The videos are outdated mostly.
    2. Rajarhat/ New town of Kolkata (actually part of bigger Kolkata) is one of the most developed and modern city .
    3. Crime rate is lower than other metro cities ( Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai , etc) .
    4. As because the media is only busy to show the negetive and bad things (as West does with India) it effects on people's mind.
    5. It is politicaly violence out there but atleast people can judge it .
    6. Many international travel can be done not just with plane but with road , river and sea it's not like Pakistan the relationship between India and Bangladesh.
And it's for both tour/travels and trade/ business.
    6. And yeah we are protecting our culture and heritage with morden time, but not that fast but we are doing.
    7. Women are much more powerful compare to most of the states .

    Quite ignorant video.
I thought it might be well researched looking at the thumbnail.
The number of IT companies that entered Kolkata in the past 2 years is huge. Delloite USI, EY GSD, GT Indus, KPMG Global, Mindtree, Zoho, Juspay, Nagarro, Zensar, L&T Infotech and 20+ other companies opened new offices in a span of just 1-1.5 years.
Few points that this video misses intentionally or unintentionally.
    1. Kolkata still has 3rd largest GDP in the country and 3rd highest number of High Net worth individuals.
    2. Kolkata airport is one of the best in India, anyone who has been to the airport knows it. I would ask the author to please visit it once.
    3. Kolkata has largest number of MSMEs in India.
    4. West Bengal is number 1 in the past 2 years in Data Center investments due to its data policy where the names include Hiranandani, Adani and many more. Flipkart opened India's largest fulfilment center in WB few months back. Amazon is building it too.
    5. Infrastructure in Kolkata is light years ahead if you compare it with Bangalore. Kolkata suburban train network is 3x the size of Mumbai suburban network. Metro, buses, taxis, shared autos, e-rickshaws make the public transport number 1 in India. There are no power cuts in Kolkata, IT areas have 6 lane roads with less traffic and a lot of greenery, unlike few other cities.
    6. Huge talent pool, 75-90% of engineering graduates are employable in the eastern India this number is very low in other places.
    7. Only WB & Tamil Nadu had positive growth rate during the covid year. During July 2022, Kolkata saw the highest hiring growth more than Delhi/Bangalore/Bombay.
According to people, a city that travels 4km to work in 50 mins is fast city while I used to travel 32KM in 50 mins in Kolkata is so called slow city 😆
If you guys actually want to know what is happening in West Bengal, learn from someone who is living here, you can follow this channel, its not my channel but you'll get a different perspective not the same old narrative : th-cam.com/users/WestBengalWithRohit
