Ah yes, the Genestealers, whose claws are "somehow" able to slice through Dreadnought armor. And they are definitely not alone. Is there one creature in the W40K galaxy, whose claws cannot cut through armor? The common terran house cat? Perhaps?
My theory is that the armour is actually just very vulnerable to being sliced open. Very hard and crystalline but ultimately vulnerable to fracturing when exposed to precise pressure.
Its always bothered me too. It doesnt make much sense. And why just genestealer claws as opposed to a hormagaunt? The bigger lifeforms, ok maybe but these 2 are roughly equal size. I think its to make genestealers more dangerous and thus hulks and cults more dangerous. Rather then a turkey shoot of 'gaunts.
Friends the answer is simple. It's WH40k. Some guy thought that those claws looked wicked sharp, wrote down some over exaggerated description and here we are.
To be fair, creatures that can't cut through armor aren't very threatening and so there would be no point in deploying them in warfare. But then mentioning it in lore as if it's impressive every single time doesn't make any sense.
The idea of genestealer cult empires, just out there in the dark, waiting for an ascension day that was cancelled is intriguing. How powerful, or not, could these mutant empires even be?
@@jacktobias6513 lack of personality. Tell me why is the swarmlord per their lore the swarmlord? My first 40k army was a Tyrannid army when the first Codex came out in the early 90s. At the hobby shop I work at one of my co-coworkers had built an Imperial Guard Army and we worked together on creating a “Brood Brother” units including a kit-bashed Leman Russ appropriated by the Brood. It was so much fun using “Green-Stuff” to make their elongated heads and using purple shades for the skin of the old plastic Imperial Guard models in the old “30” boxes. When it was confirmed they were all part of the same race I remember thinking they just became the most powerful and terrifying army in the whole of the Imperium…
Could you imagine a Genestealer planet that's been isolated for thousands of years or even since the Age of Strife? I'd love to see how they might evolve and possibly deviate from Tyranid worship and control to form their own thing.
This is something that always runs through my mind when I think of Genestealer cults. How are new fleets formed? There are many guides, and a lot of long-winded narrators on youtube. Luetin is my favorite 40k lore channel for accuracy, nice narration/graphics, and sticking to the point. You paraphrase and explain in your own words, but you also don't just read off published text or go on for ages about theories. Thanks for these vids. I will refer new players to your channel for good fluff videos to listen to while painting. 🙂
I always found it wierd that Nids leave planets behind. With dedicated organisms they could break down basically all of a planets mass and convert it with enough energy into the desired elements and molecules. They do have the system's sun as an energy source to fuel that endeavor. They could maybe use some wierd form of agriculture where the "plants" grown dissolve the very planet they're growing on with help of the star's energy.
Ever thought about making a video about the Death Guard? Named characters, the plague planet, morty etc? Especially things like the plague factories and their tallying would be fascinating to learn more about. Great video, cheers! :)
I've been playing space hulk vengeance of the blood angels on the Sega Saturn recently and it made me love genestealers, they're such a cool enemy and are terrifying to think about having to fight them face to face

I think my favorite mention of a genestealer infestation was when one genestealer got onto Krieg, and was dying of radiation poisoning, and managed to infect a Krieger who was I'll suited for service for some reason and was on the receiving end of a live fire training assault before he killed it. He dragged it out onto the street and immediately got shot by the members of the assaulting force.
I always wondered why the Tyranids never used Orkoid spores to reseed planets to allow the regrowth of biomass then consume like a system wide form of agriculture.
Can't wait for part 2, never had an inclination to collect Tyranids or Genestealer cults but I do think they're a cool army and concept and love your explanation on them as a whole
Wait what? So whilst the Orks and Tyranids are fighting each other to a standstill there very well might pop-up a warband of Khorne Deamon princes? Keep up the awesome, so happy I found this channel.
ngl i find the tyranids kinda beautiful. truely the endgame of evolution. the emperor may represent the unity of all mankind but the tyranid represents the unity of all life
It occurs to me that the reason Tyranids scoop atmosphere and ocean is probably to get at all the carbon, potassium, nitrogen, water, and all the other necessities for life stored in those. I'd be surprised if they didn't mine out the limestone too.
It's be interesting to see one such "genestealer world" that you described towards the end of the video needing to actually defend itself from other invading forces, not to spoil the planet before a tyranid hivefleet can arrive to reap the planetary biomass the cult has been preparing.
I honestly wish genestealers were still separate from Tyranids like they were in Rogue Trader. It'd be so much more 'sci-fi' to have this insidious, creepy, alien that poisons the minds of humans for it's own wicked gains, but is just one of many minor alien races which therefore shows just how filled with unique horrors the universe is... rather than just having it being one tiny part of one of the few big existential threats to the whole galaxy.
If Grandfather Nurgle hadn't won my heart (and soul) years ago, I would definitely want to cuddle with the Four-Armed Emperor. The gribblies are just too cute.
It would seem the best strategy for the imperium would be to see their border planets with impending Tyranid invasions with Orkz. Orkz seem like a good hard counter to the Tyranid. The enemy of my enemy is my friend as it were even if you are just using the Orkz as tougher biomass and grant you more time to make a plan.
Given all of the other characteristics of the Tyranids it feels weird to me that a genestealer cult doesn't somehow birth a norn queen and start a new fleet if it is entirely in control of a planet and is never consumed by the hive.
Kryptman probably didn''t have better options. The Imperium as so many enemies, shunting enemies into each other is a good idea while you mass forces to deal with the issues.
Luetin, I've been thinking exactly the same thing about the Tyrranid, that they are a last ditch effort after losing the war in heaven, to cauterize the whole galaxy from the corruption festering in the warp.
There should be a study researching any correlation between Luetin's uploads and models sold because this video really shows how eerie genestealers are, and now I want a set.

Genestealer: "Hello my fellow Ork, would you like to talk about our lord and savior The Great Devourer?"
Ork Boyz: "Green is best! Get 'em Boyz! 'Dey ain't orky 'nough!"
"Waaagh!!!"
Orks latent psyonic abilities with pretty much making things work out of thin air mixed with the tyranids is a horrifying prospect
For every video you make, you drag me deeper and deeper into the dark, far future, where there is only more lore.
You should do more videos recounting specific events in Warhammer lore. They are captivating
Nice i was just about to start my 12 hour work day thanks for making it bearable.
According to the subtitles, those jean dealers seem pretty dangerous
Ever thought about making a video about the Death Guard? Named characters, the plague planet, morty etc? Especially things like the plague factories and their tallying would be fascinating to learn more about. Great video, cheers! :)
Thank you lutien09 for the great service you do.
I've been playing space hulk vengeance of the blood angels on the Sega Saturn recently and it made me love genestealers, they're such a cool enemy and are terrifying to think about having to fight them face to face
This episode was great fun to listen to. The tyranids and the genestealers are my favorite enemies for human kind and the most terrifying personally. Really enjoyed it!
For me, the most fascinating thing about Tyranid cults is that rarely, a Genestealer Patriarch will convert to the worship of chaos
The reason is pretty obvious, isn’t it? Chaos is chaotic, and a Patriarch wouldn’t want a Daemon incursion to happen in his house.
Retconned since early 2000s
i got my self into the 40k lore like a year ago, you where one on the suggestions into I got from a friend who is a fan of the lore nut much of the tabletop as i am now
Love to listen to you materials, great descriptions with love to the details
the GSC lore is great. I was so glad to see this stuff had came back to the game. Mind I still love that RT era Patriarch.
YES!!!!!! What a way to take the edge off a Monday working at home :-) Love your work mate, your voice has been the background of my working at home life for like a year now. Keep up the good work! P.S I did like your emphasis on Abaddon ;-)
Last time I was this early Horus Lupercal was still loyal to the God Emperor.
These two videos really bring the massive threat of the Tyranids into view! Also, I now want to collect and paint Tyranids 😅
Also
In a way- getting disolved into a unity of Tyranid biomass might be the better choice.
It's quick and relatively painless, especially in face of how Chaos deals with it's pray or how Imperium treats it's "citizens"
Inquisititor, this post right here.
Im sorry but I'm probably going to sound like a wierdo but i simply love your voice and the way you talk. I could listen to speak all day long and be riveted every minute of it.! Plus you present 40k in an awesome way!! Thank you so much for the hours of amazing content!! And don't ever stop!!
"very much my own wild speculations and should be given no further credence." So your saying I have to delete the edit I did to the old ones wiki page now?
The only right thing to do now is to write some fan fiction and add a fake citation.
What a great way to learn about the 40k universe through you! Thank you very much
One hell of a Monday morning! All praise the Lore Master!
29:00 Genestealer cults have comflics with each other iver resources on the same planet. 37:15 Symbol most Genestealer cults have. 43:40 The tragic flaw of humanity. 42:00 Why Genestealer cults needs religious worship of starborn saviours to stay stable. 50:40 Fascinating genestealer cult controlled imperial worlds that are overlooked or ignored by Tyranid fleets that develop Tyranid worshiping cultured civilizations.
Think positive guys, more psykers appearing means more food for Emperor.
Nice great work I listen to these every night
Perfect as always, Luetin. Amazing narration.
Such a dam good video brother. You are so compelling to listen too. Thankyou for the content. The king of warhammer content.
Lutein: (Talks about some of the most vicious and repulsive xenosin the universe. Also has some surprisingly soothing background piano music)
I always wondered why the Tyranids never used Orkoid spores to reseed planets to allow the regrowth of biomass then consume like a system wide form of agriculture.
The beast only hungers, it does not create, it only consumes
Can't wait for part 2, never had an inclination to collect Tyranids or Genestealer cults but I do think they're a cool army and concept and love your explanation on them as a whole
In the grim darkness of the future.... there is only Luetin
Wait what? So whilst the Orks and Tyranids are fighting each other to a standstill there very well might pop-up a warband of Khorne Deamon princes?
Keep up the awesome, so happy I found this channel.
ngl i find the tyranids kinda beautiful. truely the endgame of evolution. the emperor may represent the unity of all mankind but the tyranid represents the unity of all life
I just want to say that I have been using literally ALL of your videos as background noise at work because it’s so interesting and detailed
It occurs to me that the reason Tyranids scoop atmosphere and ocean is probably to get at all the carbon, potassium, nitrogen, water, and all the other necessities for life stored in those. I'd be surprised if they didn't mine out the limestone too.
All I can see are Genestealer Ren and Stimpy singing, "Happy Happy, Joy Joy", as they shuffle into the assimilation pools......
Love the early morning drop!!
So glad you've put out new tyranid vids recently. I always say this but I genuinely love your shit, man. I can't thank you enough.
If Grandfather Nurgle hadn't won my heart (and soul) years ago, I would definitely want to cuddle with the Four-Armed Emperor. The gribblies are just too cute.
If the ‘Nids were created by the Old Ones then it would be the biggest martyrdom I’ve ever seen.
More of a galactic middle finger.
He mentions how if the Tyranids win against the Orks, they'll basically become an unstoppable force due to all the biomass
and if the Orks win they will become a whole lot stronger due to the big war

Tomorrow is my off day from work and lo and behold, Leutin upload a vid. An hour long vid.
Chef kiss.
Given all of the other characteristics of the Tyranids it feels weird to me that a genestealer cult doesn't somehow birth a norn queen and start a new fleet if it is entirely in control of a planet and is never consumed by the hive.
Man, you made me remember how much I love the 40k Universe. Thanks.
That theory makes some sense. They even save all the genetic material they encounter to their hivemind. It's a very practical reset system.
I don't know much about these genestealer cults, but I did see my roommate walking around in my 501 Levi's, should I be concerned?
Yes.
Suggest use of the heavy flamer, before the cult spreads.
That depends on how you feel about them literally getting in your pants.
Your showmanship with these intros is outstanding
Been waiting for this!
There should be a study researching any correlation between Luetin's uploads and models sold because this video really shows how eerie genestealers are, and now I want a set.
So... You're saying that luetin is promoting the spread of the hivefleets?!
But surely that can only mean one thing...
HE'S ONE OF THEM!!!
The Emperor protects
I'm definitely buying this audiobook, I'm addicted to your premium selection.
With all the sh*t happening these days, it makes me think: "Is it the work of genestealers?"
Trump does look a little like a 3rd generation hybrid...
Honestly given some people's behavior during this pandemic, I feel like we should worry more about plague cultists.
The infestation is very widespread, good fiction... You are the best
intro music: proof of power - dream cave
This is what greeted me on a lousy Monday in the office! Thanks for helping me kick off the week the right way!
